Excellent hiking trail for children! Fully paved trail that can easily be hiked by children of any age. I took my 3 year old and 5 year old and they did very well! The actual waterfall was closed off when we arrived so that part was a little underwhelming for us and the kids.

Emerald Pools are a series of green-tinted pools in Zion Canyon. They consist of the Lower Pool, Middle Pools, and Upper Pool. There are multiple ways to access them and routes you can take. The easiest is the Lower Pool trail from the Zion Lodge, which is pretty short and very easy. From there you can continue to the Middle and/or Upper Pools, both adding some distance, elevation, and challenge. We took the Kayenta Trail from the Grotto shuttle stop which leads to one of the Middle Pools, and the junction of the Middle and Upper trails. From there we went to the Upper, which is well worth the extra hike as it is the largest and most picturesque. We then went down to another Middle Pool, and found that the Middle trail was closed past it. Then we headed down to the Lower. You can go right up to the Upper and Middle, but the lower is down in a gully which is viewed from a trail with a fence rail along the canyon wall. Also, the lower is the most heavily trafficked. From there we continued on the Lower trail and caught the shuttle at the Zion lodge. During the early evening, the trail was not very crowded at all.

Nice trail, some short steeper sections, but nothing to hard. Upper trail still closed due to rock slide as of May 16, 2019, but you can still get under the lower falls.

Take this walk up to the Emerald pools. The trail traverses under the light spray from a fall. The rocks have beautiful moss and ferns from the mist. As you walk, enjoy the magnificent canyon walls. Maybe a close encounter with a local tarantula.

Really nice and easy hike with a beautiful view that pays off. The whole trail is actually paved so it was easy to walk on. It probably took us less than an hour round trip and that included hanging out at the end for a while. It was very crowded on a Saturday. You have to take the shuttle to get here. As of March 2019, the trail to go beyond lower emerald pool and up to the upper pools was closed due to mud slides.

Another adventure and a big reward from Zion, we hiked the trail to Emerald Pools and under the waterfall from the pool above. While it was not a heavy flowing waterfall it was pretty cool and got some good photos. It s not a hard hike and we visited only one of the pools and now we have the remorse of not continuing on to the others. So take the time and enjoy the sights that are all around you as you travel though thin amazing National Park.

You can make it a short hike or a long one. You can go to the first pool or all three. We did all three and it was fun. You can also instead of backtracking the way you came for past the first pool and loop down to the next bus stop.

This is a really pretty hike that is pretty easy. The middle and upper pool hikes were closed as of April 3rd 2019 but the lower one was still open and had a very pretty waterfall coming off of it. The trail is fairly easy and paved the whole way. This is a great hike for children because there are no large drop offs bit it still has a great payoff at the end.

A short, paved and potentially crowded destination trail to the lower pool. Maybe it was the time of day/year but I was not as impressed as I was hoping to be. The view from the bridge over the Virgin River at the start of the trail was arguably a better view.

The Emerald Pools are a popular place to visit in Zion National Park. They can be reached by the trails accessed at Zion Lodge and The Grotto (stops 5 and 6 on the free Zion shuttle).During our April 2017 visit the Lower Emerald Pool Trail was closed due to a landslide that had recently occurred. However, the pools were still accessible by way of the Kayenta Trail, which starts at The Grotto.Interestingly, we were able to see the landslide that had cut off the Lower Emerald Pool Trail from the Kayenta Trail around midway up.What you find at the Emerald Pools are a series of shallow pools with cascading falls, these are nice to see as you approach from the Kayenta Trail. We visited on a cloudy and rainy day so the water colours were not as vibrant as what you see in pictures. Yet, they were attractive and made for a nice hike, something wed be interested in repeating during future visits to Zion NP. In the end, the pools seem like something probably best visited on sunny days.

Currently the Emerald Pools at Zion can be reached from the Grotto Shuttle stop only, take the moderately strenuous Kayenta trail. It is 2-3 hours hiking to see all three the pools. The views of the Canyon along the way are no less than magnificent. Beste to have proper hiking shoes and bring enough water (and film) especially on summer days.

Its a lovely short hike with a great shelf and waterfalls pouring over (or trickling over, depending on the season). Much of the way from the lodge to the lower pools are paved for easy access. The Kayenta trail is steeper and in the heat can be exhausting, but is still very manageable. Moderate is the appropriate rating. The trail gets very busy, as does the upper pool site.

Oasis of the Zion NP. Quite easy (as compared to other hikes in the park) and rewarding. While the lower and middle pools are really small, it is the upper pool which is the real deal. A nice, cozy little pool enclosed within canyon walls. There are lot of places to sit, rest and have your food before heading down.

Jo
Review №66

Of all the hiking trails in Zion, emerald polls are done of the best because they have variety and scenery at the same time. Hikers at all levels of difficulty can face these trails. The lower pools are green because of some mineral in the cliffs, above the brook is dammed up a few other times, the most dramatic being as the base of the cliff itself with a rain like stream falling down.

Review №73

It was a good 15-20 minute walk on a small paved road. You can take a stroller or a wheelchair since its paved... but it wont be easy to push it... there are steep areas on this small road, so it could be dangerous for one person to go at it alone. The middle and upper pools are not accessible to strollers or wheelchairs since the road comes to an end. After the lower pool, the real hike begins... dirt road, rocks and boulders. .. my 8 year old did it by herself. So anyone in a fairly physical shape could do just fine... enjoy it!!!

Emerald Pools was a nice easy hike, though its very crowded. One of the most popular hike in the park for sure. The trail starts across from Zion Lodge, crossing the Virgin River on a footbridge and then going right to follow a paved path with minimal elevation change about a half mile to the Lower Emerald Pools. We visited during low water. In high water, there are two waterfalls tumbling down into Lower Emerald Pool, but there wasnt much when we visited. The path leads under a huge rock overhang behind the waterfalls and then climbs up. The trail gets more difficult from here. Above the lower pool is the Middle Emerald Pools. Kayenta Trail intersects and this trail leads to the Grotto if you want to make a loop. Only one of the Middle Emerald Pools is accessible as the other one is blocked by a landslide. The Upper Emerald Pools Trail continues climbing up into Heaps Canyon another half mile to Upper Emerald Pool. In high water, theres a big waterfall here, but nothing when we visited. The pool was really pretty even in low water, reflecting the huge towering cliffs all around the pool. Id definitely like to visit again right after a good rain. This is a pretty easy hike and appropriate for most people, but its also very crowded.

A fantastic area and hike through some of the best parts of Zion. All of Zion is beautiful but this hike which can either be taken as a short walk to the lower pools or extended to a more strenuous one to the upper ones is amazing. The pools are picturesque and verdant themselves, but you also get some incredible views of the surrounding cliffs from inside the valley. Definitely stop here for the hike as the views are excellent.
