Another day trip in the cityartist Dan Phillips worked alongside the late Stephanie Smither to design Smither Park in the memory of her late husband, John H. Smither. John and Stephanie were long-time supporters and collectors of self-taught art, as well as board members of The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art. Inspired by the Orange Shows philosophy of promoting self-taught art, over 300 artists have contributed permanent mosaic masterpieces. A whimsical and inspiring place; a riot of art.Located adjacent to The Orange Show, Smither Park is a great place to bring family, friends for picnics, and a one of kind experience a day trip that will resonate long after you have left. On a nice day takes you a little closer to heaven.

Super cool free park! Be careful the mosaic tiles can be sharp and cut you. The park is not super huge you pile spend about an hour there taking pictures and playing on the bench swings.Tip: it can get muddy so don’t wear heels, sandals or new/white shoes

Beautiful park! A nice way to spend your day when feeling cooped up inside. I only would recommend going in the early morning or any other time than summer though, I wanted to take my time looking at the art but I was about to pass out from this August Texas heat.

I came here with my family earlier this month. We did not have an issue with parking. The park is not too big, and we stayed for about half an hour, but I would still highly recommend checking it out if you are in the area. Its a great place to take pictures and admire the intricacies of the artwork, even if you are not generally interested in art.

You at a park, but the feeling you get is beyond just being at a park because of the volume of creativity on the wall and the floor. The vibrant colors welcome you and just makes you so happy.

This park was refreshing to see. Amazing mosaic art with all kinds of medium used. Beautifully crafted. You must take time to see it if your in the area. Its not far from the freeway exit. Give yourself time to stroll, because there is alot of detail. You can tell that some sculpturing is still in progress in some areas. After looking at my pictures I see things that I didnt see up close. So I going to have to take another trip.

I could have spent hours in this little park just looking at the art that were created by local artists. They designs are all so unique and if you look closer at them there is all kinds of art within the art. I cant wait to go on a Saturday when some of the artists are there working on their art and there is sometimes live music.

Another park is a quirky little place to spend time in. It is a collection of living mosaic art made by local artists largely with recycled material and art is continually added to it. It is not like a regular park per se though there are a few swings. The area is a quiet neighbourhood with The Orange show right next to the park. Both are worth visiting if you are living in and/or exploring Houston beyond a weekend..

This park is a gem. We go way back, I remember when the artist were barely bringing it up back in 1999. I feel special because we donated a bunch of old China plates, mirrors etc. To help build it. My family and I feel special and honored to be part of this beautiful park. We hope that the community and anyone who visits takes care of it and appreciate it.

I stumbled upon a pure gem in Houston- a quaint little park filled with Mosaic artwork. Its free & I think, designed for the art lover . I dont know much about the parks history but i hear that over 300 local artists (some children) contributed to decorating the walls, swings, benches of the park. I was looking for a park for small kids. This park is not a typical playground - more like an outdoor art gallery with a couple of swing sets, thus not really suitable for small kids to play. Both myself & the older kids thoroughly enjoyed the detail & the beauty of this park.

This is in an overlooked quarter of the city but worth the trip if you are into offbeat destinations. It is a collaboration of perhaps 100 local mosaicists to create a mosaic park. The work reflects the unique and diverse visions of the many contributors. The overall design and coordination is by Dan Phillips of Phoenix Commotion. Initially inspired and convinced by Stephanie Smither in memory of her late husband John, both collectors of outsider art the vibe is certainly non-traditional and not easily categorized. The park has been in progress for 5-6 years and will be evolving for years to come but the concept is well along now and there is lots to see.

Despite it being located in a so-called bad part of town, I felt relatively safe here. It’s a small plot of green space where artists upcycle items into art. There’s even a swing set. It seems to be work in progress but most of it appears to be complete. Some looked to be damaged and roped off to be fixed... not that it was roped off (it looked like it was taken down). It’s pretty cool and I’d love to return regularly just to see its progress. There is street parking but it’s free. There are some benches and table that are also a part of the art display.
