One of the larger & more interesting parks in the area. Long walking and biking paths. Plenty of shade. Incredible numbers of birds large & small, and turtles. Recently found a turtle in the woods here - thought she had wandered far from the lake & Id help her back. Picked her up and... shed managed to dig a 6 - 8 inch deep hole with her tail which she was laying eggs in.Havent seen any gators, and Ive been looking. But after reading other reviews I WILL keep my 13lb dog leashed.

This is a great place for a long walk or a jog. We saw plenty of people fishing, riding bikes, and enjoying the picnic grounds as well. The views of the lakes were great and seeing the many birds that inhabit the area was fun. The bathroom facilities were clean. We were a little disappointed, because we came for a hike and to get away from the city. However, we could hear traffic the whole time and see it at points. I guess we shouldn’t have been surprised as it IS in the middle of the city, but, based on other reviews, we thought it would be a bit more secluded. Still happy we went and we may be back for the jogging!

This is a nice place to walk, run, bike, sit, or rollerblade year-round. The paved path is cut through the woods and is mostly shady along a body of water where visitors can kayak, canoe, and fish. Dogs are welcome on a leash. During non-COVID-19 times, there are water bottle fill stations, benches, swings, volleyball court, and book donation/borrowing cubby. Parking is usually ample, but on some weekends and holidays, it can be scarce.

This place is great! Fishing, walking, running, biking, kayaking or just chilling. The lake isnt too deep so its good for kayaking and just watching the wildlife right next to you. Plenty of shade for hot days, for walking and on the water as well. Weve been here several times since we got our new kayaks and we will be here a lot more often. Not sure if they stock the lake, but it would be awesome if there was a little better fishing. Its still relatively young, so well just have to give it time.Bathrooms are clean but hot, and they offer 5 gallon jugs of water along the path for you to fill up your bottle. The rangers we have interacted with have been really nice. For the goofy folks I see tossing balls for their dogs to get in the water, bear in mind there ARE alligators in the water.

We love coming here and walking around the paths after dinner to burn off some calories. There are some lakes that you can see from the path, as well as go fishing if you want. There are lots of activities going on and can get a list of them from the bulletin boards. Lots of family activities. There is even a large family sized swing, infant swings, and a pavilion for picnics and gatherings. We mostly just like to come and walk around. Its basically right next to the Vintage area and feels like you are in the wilderness.... Without having to drive far at all. Relaxing place.

I had no idea this was here! We discovered it from a flyer at Mercer Arboretum and decided to check out their storytime by the lake. Ashley did a great job organizing the day, with themed activities to go along with the story. She even brought a live turtle for the kids to touch, as well as an empty turtle shell, some stuffed turtles and play-doh to craft their own turtles. After storytime, my boys and I went on a small adventure to explore the lake and surrounding area. It looked like rescue boats were doing maneuvers so the lake was a little crowded (I felt bad for the people trying to fish) but it was a BEAUTIFUL preserve. The bathrooms are much better than I expected, with several stalls, excellent lighting, and plenty of paper towels and toilet paper. They even have showers on site in case you get filthy playing around the lake.

I absolutely love this place!!!You can ride your bikes, take a walk, and see so many doggies!! You can go across the bridge, see the river, and even get closer to it if you want. All the people are very friendly and there is always somebody going around, making sure everything is in order, while also refilling the water constantly around the park. If you need to use the restroom there is one at the main parking lot and if you are too far from that, my secret is when you get in between the roads and the pond go under the roads which will lead you safely across the road to a hotel where you can just walk in and use the restroom. To be honest the only thing I dont like is that they close on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years because I cant go! I absolutely love this place and recommend it to anyone who is thinking about going.

A natural gem in Houston. Has more of a a state park feel than an urban park. No playground or ball fields/ courts. Not many picnic tables and hardly any bbq sites. Once again not really set up as an urban park. Paved walking jogging trail goes around lake and unpaved sections in smaller sections too. Enclosed restrooms and additiona showers for the scout camping facilities. The paved trails have tons or park benches for stopping to rest or just sit. The lake doesnt seem to be any deeper than 4 or 5 feet at the deepest. Many sections are well under 3 feet. A kayak launch is the highlight. There are fishing piers and tons of bank access for fishing. The lake does not have a natural fresh water supply so it is dependent on rain for keeping the water levels up and the water from becoming to stagnant. During periods of low rainfall the lake will drop and larger sections become too shallow for kayaks. Most out there on kayaks, are there to fish but plenty of recreational paddlers come to paddle about the large lake. The anglers are more than plentiful. If youre there to get some paddling time in, you do have to dodge their lines and they can also overtake the launch site. Pretty much every time Im there there are anglers fishing from the launch since its convenient and uncrowded. The launch is mostly gravel but the very end is sharp edged chunky concrete debris fill, so shoes are required when launching especially when the lake levels are low.
