The homily by the priest was extremely fruitful and profound. The church itself is large, beautiful and well maintained.Definitely a good choice for mass.I’ve been there for confession in the morning twice; both times was a simple, quick and not a spiritually fruitful experience at all. It would be nice if the priest offered more real guidance and care instead of that “just getting it over with” kind of feel.

Beautiful place the security guard was amazing and friendly he even informed us of it name and how it came to be. Its the Co-Cathedral because of a cathedral located elsewhere shared its same status. Granting this location a higher status because how powerful and populated Houston was becoming. What a great stop! See it if youre downtown.

There are 8 bigger than life-sized statues of saints such as St. Martin de Porres, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, and St. Juan Diego. The Mass was excellent and the homily was inspiring.

I love the Co-Cathedral. Ive been to it many times before and think its just absolutely beautiful. Its everything a Cathedral should be. Large vaulting ceiling, large pillars, and a grand main room with a beautiful alter. If you have the chance to visit, you should make sure you park in the designated parking lot across from the church to avoid having to pay for parking nearby. Good luck and I hope you like it!

Went Sunday afternoon for MLK service. Parking was easy enough many spots. Free as well. The cathedral was close by. If youre bringing someone in wheelchair suggest dropping them off in front first, as it becomes a little more difficult to navigate traffic lights and curbs but doable if necessary.Experience was great. The atmosphere and sights were great. Photography was welcomed and everything your eyes see is a photo op. Acoustics were also amazing. You could hear a piece of cotton fall from the altar and be sitting in the back and hear it. Bad news if theres a crying baby though. All in all A great experience.

Its the vital beating heart of Catholicism in Houston. Its got beautiful architecture, well maintained and has a vital dynamic, church community. Its a great place, but a bit far for us to regularly attend. One fault though: the sound system could use some work. Every time weve gone its hard to hear the cantor and choir over the organ. If thats a problem, sit up front (theres always room in the front pews - its a Catholic Church after all).

No matter how many times I attend Mass or just visit the Cathedral outside of Mass, it always feels like the first time. Every time is a different experience - I just continue to be amazed by its phenomenal beauty. God is Good

The Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart In Downtown Houston represents the culture of people who follow the Catholic faith in Houston. You can find culture at religious buildings because it is a formal region where the people all believe and follow in what their religion tells them to do. Historically, the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart has been one of the larger Catholic Churches in Houston, and it has also been a place where adherents of the Catholic faith can gather in worship. The characteristics of the culture for Catholics includes how the priests and deacons dress for mass and how the people of the church try to live their lives. This culture is unique because during the masses, the priest or deacon who is giving the mass wears special garments unlike everyone else. Also the culture is unique because followers of the Catholic faith are told to model their lives after their savior, Jesus, so that changes how they act and speak to other people.

Such a beautiful, sacred place with a friendly, diverse congregation. Homilies are incredible, and to me the biggest example of the devotion of the priests to the welfare of their congregation is the fact that confessions are offered every single day before every mass! I have never heard of this level of committment before and it is inspiring. There is a wealth of tradition behind why Catholic churches are built and furnished as they are and it is fascinating. Much of it is decended from the Jewish synagogues. The CoCathedral offers tours, generally on Sunday afternoons, that are well worth a visit! Check the website for when they are available and be sure to check it out.
