The history. The information. The..... Man everything about the museum is something you just have to check out for yourself in your lifetime. I thought I knew a good amount of information about the buffalo soldiers but come to find out I didnt even scratch the surface. This place covers everything about these great heroic men and one women. Yes there is a woman ms William she wanted to join the military to help fight but couldnt because at that time women wasnt allowed in the service so she pretended to be a man and joined the military. The only way they found out was because she fallen ill and needed medical attention. It was then the doctors found out and kicked her out of the service. Theres alot of information here. Please go check out this place. It worth it. And make sure you stop by the gift shop to.

Awesome experience. As the name suggests, this is a military museum forced on the African American armed forces experience. It was really cool to see that POV as you typically only here of a few stories. There is a very interesting exhibit relating to Houston, a court martial, and one one of the largest trials in American history. Stop by to see what Im referring to

I love what the museum is providing for the community but I wouldnt visit the actual museum ever again. I felt like a lot of history was sugar coated. I want the real stories told. Maybe I missed it but what the black lgbt experience in the army? Some of these things are hard to talk about but its a conversation that needs to be had.

I visited The African American Military Museum during an event called Black Market Houston. The atmosphere was inviting and engaging. The market took place on all three floors of the museum so there was a lot to choose from. The condition was comfortable and not too crowded. The vendors were full of smiles and that was the best part! I gave this event five stars because they had it all, music, food trucks, and quality shopping. The constructive feedback that I have is in reference to the music. It was too loud, resulting in challenges when trying to network or just talk to the vendors about their business. Some of the businesses had some really amazing causes that I would have loved to hear more about, but the loud music paired with the vendors trying to scream in my ear resulted in little to no interaction. I also like to feel relaxed when I shop so the overstimulation of the loud music aided in the limited amount of time that I spent in the museum. Im sure I would have spent more money if the music was not as loud.

This museum has been on my list for several years. I finally got around to visiting, and I’m very glad that I did. They have a 15-minute video that gives you an overview regarding the history and some of the contributions of the Buffalo Soldiers. You can see actual uniforms as well as a coat made of buffalo skin. The museum features black contributions in the military not just during the era of the Buffalo Soldiers but all throughout Inited States history. They also have displays about women who served in the military sprinkled throughout and a video about a woman who posed as a man so she could serve in the military during the Civil War era. There’s also an exhibit paying homeage to many black astronauts. Although it is unrelated, it’s really interesting to see.

Buffalo Soldiers National Museum was venue for a Mike Bloomberg Campaign initiative. For this event display rooms seemed more spacious since my last visit. The main room was packed with people and created a fire hazard. A lady who was trying to leave the event tripped and fell over a makeshift stair case leading up to Media stage. I am surprised the stage didnt crash. The other rooms were bare with lots of food and drink. The event was great. Yolanda Adams was guest singer. Mayor Turner preached like he was at Church. Pastor Ralph West lead the opening prayer.

Amazing Museum I never would have gone to had it not been for my friends hubby from Canada (they were down for a visit). I dont have much interest in military history even though I am a vet, but this museum is very much about the stories of the people (one in particular stood out but I wont spoil the story) who came to be Buffalo Soldiers. The museum has discounts for seniors, students and is reasonable at $10 each. The map pamphlet lays the journey through the museum that you can take and you can obviously take as long as you need, watch or read what you want etc. There are two fascinating videos in two different rooms so make sure you catch those. Take the time to read the displays and in particular the letters that are written; amazing stories. The artifacts are cool and the whole building really captures the flavor of the time these soldiers served their country against all odds with great honor and pride. I was so interested in it all that I only took one photo, that my friend was moved by and wanted to remember. (I hope that is ok with the museum...)The only criticism is that is was very cold in the museum which is usually a good thing but it was distractingly cold which is not usual or desired. But hey thats why we carry jackets in our cars down south.Put this museum on your to-do list and I am certain you wont be disappointed. I would also note that they have a good sized gift shop.

This museum is rich in history and charm! Expect a humble establishment with gems throughout the museum. In fact, see if you can find the following:1. What year were African Americans allowed to join the military?2. How and where did the term Buffalo Soldier come from?3. Had the Buffalo Soldiers not existed, what effect could that have had on American society?4. Name one Native American Tribe that were considered Buffalo Soldiers?Enjoy this piece of history many will never know!
