Do not skip this during your visit to ENP. Don.t let the narrow road stop you from going to the site. I was able to easily drive a 32 motor home and parking at the missile barn was easy. The site has a loop all the way around, so, leaving was also easy. The volunteers are a wealth of knowledge and eager to tell the story of the site.

It is free once you pay your 30 bucks to get into the park. So, if you are already going to the Everglades, you should jump on this tour. The tour guide really added quite a bit to the tour! It was fun.The nature of the Nike missile bases are... Well, I recommend reading about them and looking up as much as you can before you go. The tour will be much more enjoyable if you know the history of the bases. If you are able, go out to the aerojet facility! That is much more enjoyable for the moment, unless someone cleans them up

If you know what does Cuban crisis means then you should visit this historical site. This place was designed to use tactical nuclear warheads to intercept and shut down missiles/planes from Cuba. There is a lot of information about the whole system and volunteering guide was very helpful and knowledgeable.

This is a very interesting place to visit inside the Everglades National Park. The volunteer who was here spend a lot of time discussing the missiles with us as well as the history of the base. I know its a bit out of the way and off the main drag but dont miss this when you come to this section of the Everglades.

This was a gem to find in the Everglades! If you are interested in military things or not, this is a great place to stop at. Its a bit off the beaten path but well worth finding! The volunteers here can tell you all about the nuclear missiles that were set up here after the Cuban missile crisis, the men who were there to protect and launch them if needed. They have equipment you can see in one of the missile barns.

An awe inspiring story is presented here of the men who sacrificed so much for our nation. I enjoyed seeing and walking this part of history and hearing the story of how the Mike Missile Site came to be and learn of some of the technology they used. The Everglades was great to visit and I want to go back but this was the best 1 1/2 hours of the visit.

A Must Visit for miltary and History buffs. This missile site was active from 1964 to 1979. There were appx. 300 of these sites protecting the US borders during the Cold War Era (1955-1979). It is in an isolated area of the Everglades national park. This is the only place where you can touch an actual missle that was capable of stopping an incoming invasion with nuclear power. They have daily open house visits and a guided tour. Open only during the winter months.

An interesting piece of history in the Eveglades. It is worth visiting if you are in the park. The park should have a day pass rather than the 7 day pass, which is kind of pricey. National Parks should be inexpensive to visit and all the money paid should support the park.

It was a strange little stop. If youre interested in the Cuban Missile Crisis, youll probably find it interesting. Theres a long road to get there then a sort of off-putting old sign that indicates that the use of deadly force can be used against trespassers. Ignore the sign. Its a public space. No military there anymore. Most of the buildings are closed and locked. The only public building is the one with the big missile displayed. A nice man approached us and explained the history of the site and answered our questions. Besides the one missile and some signs in that silo, theres not much else to see, so its a quick stop.

This site is nestled in the Everglades National Park. It is not open throughout the year. I believe it is open from December to April. It is open only 4 hours a day from 10 am to 2 pm and the site is manned by 2 volunteers. There are special ranger programs held as well. I have seen a similar site North of San Francisco that had the Nike Ajax missiles. The volunteers took their time to explain a lot and answered a lot of questions. I find it fascinating that there was a missile base inside a National Park. While this base was operational, visitors probably went to the Royal Palm Visitor Center and had no clue about this. I also learned that before this site was operational there was a set of 6 batteries of missiles in the tomato fields outside the park. That site was moved to inside the park as the ground was sinking.

I was stationed there in 1965. I was a M P Sentry Dog Handler. The site was so new that the missiles were not even there yet. There were about 6 or 7 of us handlers, and we all were shipped along with our dogs at the same time to Vietnam, as Sentry Dog Handlers. We were part of the first Army Sentry a Dogs in Vietnam. We ended up as being the 212th MP Co. K-9 (Sentry Dogs) in Vietnam.

Hard to believe that a location so important to the Cold War is situated in the middle of Everglades National Park. As a history buff, this was definitely a required place to explore. We got lucky and ended up getting there just in time for one of the volunteer-led tours which was just beginning. We learned about the history of the site and then were given access to one of the hangars to view a refurbished (decommissioned) Nike missile along with other pieces of restored and unrestored equipment as well as memorabilia. The guide was wonderful and it was amazing hearing about how this site was so important during the Cold War.My only wish is that they would refurbish some of the facilities themselves. The hangars still work but are rusting, and the bunkers are inaccessible due to lead paint and asbestos. But we know how government funding and donations are hard to come by. Hopefully one day this location can be given the TLC it deserves!
