Wonderful little beach tucked away in a rather industrial little town. I was referred to this place by a local dive shop to log a few dives while on vacation. Visibility was pretty good. And the underwater plants are about as colorful as the leaves out of the water

Always a great spot to relax. Never too busy to find a spot. Even in mid July the water is still cool and refreshing. Most of all the kids love it there. Plenty of room for exploring and swimming. A go to for us when were up here in CT! Also a great little snack bar is you dont bring any food. The clam fritters are awesome!

This beach is okay. Sandy in most areas but most of seaweed on the shore as well. People are swimming here. Not very rocky so that is good. I can walk around bare foot, so thats good.

Quiet, clean, post-season place to chat outdoors with ability to maintain social distance. Can be chillier than expected in October near the water, so take jacket/hat.Also, didnt see/have access to public bathroom so have escape route to a bathroom in mind, e.g nearby Walmart. Thank you, Walmart!!

Holidaymakers can’t go at moment. Beach only open to season pass holders (who must be city residents). Guess that’s to limit number of people because of Covid-19, which is fair enough. But thought people should know to save themselves the trip. Most beaches in the area are the same.

Nice little beach, only 4 stars because I feel they charge too much. And charge to park til 8 pm. Got there at 7:45 one night for sunset and they were going to charge $20. Otherwise, its right at the mouth of the river and clean. Beautiful spot.

It is on the LI Sound and the Thames River so the waves are small. The water is usually clear. Not very rocky, but at times there can be a lot of seaweed. It is great for kids. No rafts, tubes, boards or ball playing aloud in the water. The concession stand is good, and reasonable priced.

One of my favorite places to watch the sunset , have a picnic or just bring the kids and family to the beach. Clean water, clean beach and clean bathrooms what more can you ask for well they could lower the price. They still where charging to park at 8:30pm .

Even in thick fog and drizzle, it was wonderful to stand there listening to fog horns and the sound of the surf on the rocks.

Ka
Review №61

It was much better before all the changes. Its way too strict now, they should stop charging much earlier, and the people working the concession were totally rude. I always get a pass, but Im not sure this year. Its definitely not like it was when I grew up with the raft, and being able to actually play with floats or balls, and Pat and Bob at the grill.

Review №62

Really a great place to watch for boats. We didnt intentionally go looking for any particular vessel to go by. However, my daughter noticed there were several Navy wives and figured that there would be a boat coming out from General Dynamics Electric Boat. Sure enough, the USS Indiana was on her way out for sea trials. Such a treat to be there when our states boat was going by.

Ke
Review №79

Nice beach with some important caveats.Good: decent sized beach area, two volleyball nets and a basketball court. Incredible views of where the Thames meets the Sound. You can see submarines and ferries somewhat regularly transit in and out. On-site rinsing stations plus showers and indoor toilets are nice. Small concession stand inside a large yet increasingly dilapidated building. Small playground for little ones.Neutral: cost is fairly low for a year-long pass, but for City of Groton residents only. Town of Groton and everyone else pays much higher fee that likely makes the cost not worthwhile. As a city resident, though, cost is fine for me.Bad: beach is incredibly rocky. Lifeguards are hyper-agressive and nearly ruin the experience by constantly barking orders at patrons. Cost quite high for non-City residents.

Great views, good food with many choices with reasonable prices. Playground area for children, bench swings for all, beautiful beach with indoor and outdoor shower facilities, indoor bathroom facilities. Ramps provide access to the beach house and concession stand. Nearby basketball court. Nice area to walk around.Fees for access to the beach from mid June to Labor Day. Beach passes can be purchased from the City Administration Building on Meridian St. Or pay for day use when you enter beach.

This gem has become one of my favorite local beaches. The adjacent playground makes it an extra fun place to visit for young children. The wonderful snack bar makes an excellent addition for the whole family. There is a handicap access mat, public restrooms, grills, ample parking, fishing and kayaking access, and some of the friendliest staff you could hope for.

I grew up going to this beach and watched its steady decline. This was once a beautiful, small, and clean beach with a cheap and tasty snack bar. Now it just doesnt hold the same charm it used to. The food is pretty terrible and the prices for admission went up. I live in town so I still get in for free, but it seems silly to me to charge past 6pm. Its a small beach and the water isnt always the clearest. Not worth it in the slightest if youre driving. It was a good place at one point.
