An interesting take on thrift.Where you tour the exhibit like a museum.A little disappointed in this concept.

Such a fun & interesting place to visit! Whether going with my teenage son, or my group of adult friends, its always an adventure.Note: If youre sensitive to energies you can feel the presence of other beings in a particular spot where bones were found in the wall,( & its strong too!) (:

This place has such a cool and creative environment. I have been three times and each time has been different. The staff is extremely friendly and loves to answer questions. I suggest going more than once, especially if you havent been in a while!

I would recommend taking the tour so you can hear the history of the location, the explanation of the pieces and to tour the 2nd and 3rd floors. I had been in previously and was a bit overwhelmed by the stimuli on the first floor. However when you take the tour it’s a rich and thoughtful experience. Walk through the creative minds of some of the residents who have put their mark on the museum. The pieces upstairs are political in nature with a lot of social commentary. Some art in this world is just for beauty and others is to invoke thought and emotion. It goes very deep. Was more than pleased with our experience and want to share it with all those who I feel are open enough to take in the messages. Take the tour!!! Totally worth $5

I love the concept of this place, but I feel like more should be done with the interesting space. It doesnt take long to see everything, and its cheap. Fun to briefly explore, but I wasnt sure where I should stop exploring. There was some kind of bar/cafe thing with a group of people talking like a meeting was going on. I wasnt sure if that was public or not. It didnt feel welcoming to the public. They ask for a small donation of $1-5. My favorite sights in this place were the supportive bench and the detailed flowchart on the chalkboard. Definitely unique and inspirational.

This is such a great place to explore. It is very easy to get lost in thought here and spend hours admiring the works and interacting with all the interesting art. I love that the artists live in house, the whole place is utterly unique and definitely needs to be visited by anyone who appreciates art in the triad.

Eclectic artistic compositions and installations abound on 3 floors of - and from materials remaining from - the museums earlier lives as Army/Navy Surplus store, consignment shop, et. al.Meet and talk with interesting artists of differing mediums from all over the world. There is so much more to Elsewhere than this, but is best experienced rather than described. Enchanting! Still to this day I am in awe of George and Stephs ability to imagine Elsewhere coming from The Space. Here a once cluttered collection of antiques have become the multi-media of incredibly talented minds. Even if you have never in your life enjoyed an art exhibit you will be entranced. Every turn will take you on a nostalgic and thought provoking journey. This is a living, breathing and always growing installation. Truly a must see!

A great, unique, interactive place to take the kids. It encourages creativity and hosts artists from all over the country.

It was once a thrift store, until it closed down and was found by the owners grandson. Its a really free space, its something the characters of a coming of age movie would encounter, or if vaporwave was a physical space. The objects that the young writers found sent their minds in a million directions! Sylvia’s artifacts demonstrated a potential ability to expose the kinds of ideas that form and stimulate personal connections. Of the many questions that arose from the encounter, one resonated: Could Sylvia’s collection become a thinking playground?Elsewhere became a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. In 2005, the group launched an artist residency program to bring global creatives across media and discipline to Greensboro in order to create new works using the collection. Thanks to a grant from the Greensboro United Arts Council, some chance movie shoots, a new-work commission (for a giant Lite-Brite!), an active crew of volunteers, and the creative inspiration of artists, Elsewhere built a sturdy foundation upon which to continue dreaming.

From the outside looking in I could see swings hanging in the front window space of Elsewhere and was intrigued. I had no idea I was going to fall head over heels for this collaborative, collective “play space” for artists and the community. Do you remember the feeling you had the first time you walked into a toy store? All the shelves filled, from floor to ceiling, with boxes of dolls, games and play things you couldnt wait to get your hands on? Exactly how I felt walking into Elsewhere. I must have walked around the first floor with my mouth agape, in blissful wonderment for thirty minutes. It’s challenging to describe in words all that you see in Elsewhere. Some collection or installation occupies nearly every square inch of wall space and many of them are interactive. Yet, it doesn’t feel cluttered. There is organization and structure underneath that chaotic surface. You need to go experience it yourself when they reopen in Spring 2014.
