Our family loves this preserve! Yesterday we saw 2 snakes, lots of turtles including the biggest turtle Ive ever seen in the wild (approx 24 diameter shell), and lots of nature. Who knew such a giant ecosystem preserve existed right off of the Beltline? Free for all guests.
Incredible place to take a quiet walk through the woods. Our son loves going there to look for animals. Weve seen birds, snakes, turtles (including a baby one), chipmunks, deer, geese, bunnies, and more! Native Michigan wildlife at its best!
Be careful if you are using google to find “nature trails that allow dogs”. I did and this was the first hit. Only thing is that I was here not too long ago and there are definitely signs saying no dogs. I’m not complaining, and I still have it five stars because it’s a great hike, but they do not allow dogs
Lovely walk with well maintained trails, water overlooks, natural animals, and places to explore. Perfect for a family hike on a weekend. All ages can enjoy the space and find beauty in the offerings at the Calvin College Ecosystem Preserve. Also a great open space attached behind the Prince Conference Center for running, playing games, or Frisbee golf.
Well groomed trails, however not very well marked. Good for a quick walk
Very pretty place but theres a sign that says no running, no dogs, no fun. Made that last one up but it would be nice to be able to take your pup here. Im sure some dork didnt pick up their dogs poop causing this travesty to occur.
Plenty of wooded area and paths to walk along ... quietly!
Gorgeous trails... very easy to stroll around in and lose oneself in their beauty!
Nice nature trails. Easy to walk.
Great place to walk around, learn about native ecosystems, and see changes through the seasons. The trails are well kept, and I especially love the new native gardens near the Bunker Interpretive Center. Could spend as little as 20 minutes walking through and as much as a couple hours taking in the sights, smells and sounds. Bring bug spray in the late summer early fall!
First time visitor and was truly impressed. Beautiful walk thru the woods. Park was wonderful, clean and safe. Who knew this beautiful gem was in the middle of the city!
Great spot for a hike after classes at Calvin! Took some great pictures with my girlfriend and saw two turkeys!
Great nature preserve and trails. Plenty of interconnected trails to keep you busy, but also enough short loops for little kids.
My family had a blast walking the path and seeing nature at its best
A lovely place, with beautiful natural paths, and nice vistas.
Beautiful. go there. now. lovely level walk though not paved so walkers and wheel chairs might be challenging or not possible depending on the circumstance. trees, small wild life especially on warm fall day. water.
A beautiful place to escape the city and enjoy a little piece of nature.
A peaceful oasis in the middle of grand rapids. We love their summer camps for kids and the ability to hike and enjoy nature any time of year!
Came here for a geocache and found a lovely campus. Shame I havent been here before.
Beautiful well kept trails and usually quiet and uncrowded.
Great place but NO DOGS allowed period. Not even on leash. Disappointed.
Quiet area, well established trails, and plenty to see
Very nice ace to walk if you like being in nature
First time going there, looking forward to going back.
This is my second safe place next to Babin Kuk, Dubrovnik, Croatia where I feel total serenity. This is the only place in Grand Rapids where I can feel lost without getting lost that does not feel like a park. You will have an adventure here. go off the path and youll come across wild mushrooms, tons of toads, tiny frogs leaping throughout the forest floor, garter snakes, various species of birds, deer, squirrels and chipmunks, not to mention various species of trees, and all those botany geeks who like to identify different plants. Youll find it here. This is a complete self sustaining ecosystem. You can get over 6,000 steps (3+ miles) in here whether or not you stay on the path, even if youre a beginner. Youll feel supercharged, empowered, stress relieved and toned muscles.
A great relaxing place to walk and relax
Nice nature walk.
Worthwhile walking trails.
Love walking here. Its a great place to get away for a little bit. Nice trails and places to just sit for a while.
Off 37. Quiet place. A walk through on pathways with the wind blowing through the trees. Awesome feeling.
Our family has enjoyed this patch of nature amidst the city for years. Walk & refresh. Great kid’s programming, nature walks with guides, etc. Nature center with composting toilets.
Really nice trails, it snowed when we went and it was so pretty
Its really pretty in the fall and good for easy walks. If youre lucky youll get to see turtles in the water ^^
Lots of serene walking paths, plus several decks overlooking small, quiet ponds. Great for a peaceful walk or for immersing yourself in nature.
Beautiful! Great trail
I went here with camp optimist back in June and cannot remember our tour guides name but we had a great time and enjoyed learning about nature.
Lots of different paths to take. Your walk can be as long or as short as you want ut to be.
It was not as salty as KFC so a little better I enjoyed it
Nice short trail..wood chips as a path with some view of the ponds..short n sweet
Very beautiful park!
Beautiful.
Beautiful hidden gem in town for a nature walk.
Ive enjoyed the Calvin College Ecosystem Preserve for years (since I was a student at Calvin) and now I bring my kids here for walks, activities and just to see the indoor animals. The trails are very well-managed and great for families with smaller kids.
Such a beautiful peaceful place
Very refreshing to walk at Calvin University
Nice place to walk.
Has many good trails to walk, wheelchair accessible, and fun for the whole family!
This is a wonderful place to bring young children interested in the outdoors. Any season is the right season to explore the grounds and learn about the local wildlife inside the Bunker Interpretive Center.
Love walking here! Great place to relax!
Very educational for all ages.
Beautiful. Make sure you visit the pond
Quiet beautiful
Shirt slightly winding and cyclical trail but lovely escape in the middle of a city
Great views which is perfect for a stroll when you want to get away from the busyness of life.
Great for a quiet walk in the woods in town
I thought they would have a lot of plants for woodland planting and that wasnt the case. I bought a couple things but they certsinly were not cheap for the size of the plants
Excellent place for a walk. Terrible mosquito swarms in the summer. Ecosystem present, preserved.
Its pretty basic but its a nice way to spend an hour on a sunny day.
Cool little place to visit and wander
Delightful reprieve from the business of life.
Wonderful short trail! Youll feel like in the middle of the forest with a little bit chance you can see dears.
Some nature at its best.
Hidden gem for a great walk.
Wonderful facilities and a great trail system
Its calm and quiet for a nice walk. Many squirrels can be found here!
This is a great asset to Calvin College. Good for research and leisurely strolls through the woods and ponds.
Great trails, lots of interesting features. Interpretation center is free and has all sorts of stuff to explore with kids.
Long walking trails and quiet pathways add to the allure of this scenic nature preserve.
Always a great walk regardless of season
Beautiful place. If youre looking for true nature in the middle of the suburbs, this is it.
Good place to go for a walk in the city. Well maintained.
