This is the real deal. Nothing fake or phony. Rex is there most of the time and is welcoming. It’s a small local bar where the attention is on the music and not the $$$. On wensday night Rex does 3-5 songs to his adoring fans ie fellow singer song writers, and then it’s open mic. This is where the rubber hits the road. Real people opening there souls to friends and strangers. You got to stop by if you get a chance. Oh and Towns memorabilia, the real stuff, is everywhere.

A beautiful night. A yearly homage to Townes VanZandt, a truly great literary figure who gave us art we can participate in. Once a year we gather to revel in his exquisite song writing. A sweet euphoria of lyrics and melody.

It has been some time since I was last with Janet & Wrecks at the Old Quarter. I read that theyd put it on the market. I hope against hope that the person who buys it, or bought it, knows its true value. It is not merely a bar featuring live acoustic musicians, it is a living place, a faithful tribute to a friendship, one man faithful to the memory of the Old Quarter in Houston, and to the memory of Townes Van Zandt.Know this as you enter and you will feel it.Wrecks is a Texas music legend, honoured as such, the trophy to prove it, although it must be said that the only time I saw the trophy was just after Wrecks had accepted it. He is somehow custodian of a piece of music history, not that he would say that, nor anything close. Most everything Wrecks says when on is more Henny Youngman than it is anything else. Theres a joke always playing about his lips. Im very fortunate to have had the chance to meet him and Janet, his anchor and love. Please be mindful of the fact that the little bar on 20th is more than the sum of its parts. And its cash only.

Visited as a tourist but felt very welcomed by the locals. Good open mic music.

It was and outstanig laid back music bar. Rex the owner is the former bass player for artist like Towns Van Zandt and is a wonderful ole chap!!
