Super cool old building. The kids section is ocean themed. That is great. Came in to do quickbooks while on vacation. Wifi goes in and out. Seeing this awesome library was worth coming in even though I couldnt do my work. Spend 30 minutes walking around. Smile at a bum. They need positive affirmation.

This was my first and most likely last visit. The lady at the front desk was very rude and seemed annoyed when we asked questions about the elevator. I can understand that it wasnt working, maybe put up a sign so no one bothers you. I was so looking forward to visiting but now I regret taking the time.

Its a library. They have lots of books for you to read and the building itself is actually quite pretty. But dont you dare get sleepy, and God forbid if you decide to rest your head on your hands for a second to catch some rest, even if you have been studying at a table for hours on end reading books and doing work on your laptop. The staff will quickly awaken you and reprimand you for your grave trespass. I found this out by watching my friend try to take a 5 minute power nap after studying for a few hours.It.Was.Hilarious.

Completely amazing library from basement to ceiling. Children library in basement is awesome at ever area well thought and designed. New release movies, computers, and easy to access books. Second floor on up is adult books, lots of books on tape and wide open comfortable areas to enjoy it. Museum on 4th floor that is currently under renovation but will be great.

Yes, the library is wonderful. Books, movies, historical displays, and a fine computer lab. What really helped us was the ability to use a conference room with teleconference capabilities to connect three locations for legal mediation. For no fee we orchestrated a hearing and won!! Thanks.

The history and architecture of this place are second to none in Texas as far as Im concerned. As a library its pretty nice. If youre looking to do research about the island this would be the ideal place to do so. Only problem is it tends to be a hotspot for homeless people. Wouldnt be surprised if you caught a guy washing himself from the sink in the bathrooms.

I really love this library, they keep it clean and very organized. Every one is helpful and professional especially the security guard he went out of his way to help me find my car keys. I was very embarrassed and frantic and he not only calmed me down but he assured me we would find them and we did!

Love this library, out of every library ive been to this is the best one ive ever been to. the things they do with the kids like arts and craft or story time or even story time with super heros. they also do summer reading programs and you get prices for the books you read and at the end if you reach the goal they give you, the kids get a trophies. they have the 4 floors which works well because the kids can run and also have a limited time to play on the computer while the adults are upstairs not hearing a sound =. love this place and even though i moved i will come back always

Getting a Library cardThe library is gorgeous. Lots of interesting info and displays on upper floors. However, as a new resident I had great difficulty getting a checkout card. They insisted on an electric bill which is in my roommates name. This was not sufficient. I showed them my lease. Since its month to month that too was a problem for some unknown reason. The gal at the desk was fairly rude and I it seemed she had more important things to chat with co worker about then assist me .I had no other bad experience with personnel who were eager to help ( ie. Comp lab, copy machine, locating info). ,I had a much easier time getting a driver licence at DPS :-;-)

I went to the library on Monday 1/12/14 they have a black man who is a guard at the door, he told me I could not bring my luggage in the library with me, I am a person who is a tourist here. I dont have a car. He called security and I asked if I could leave the luggage somewhere in a closet or near the door, he said no. He said I had to talk with the director of the library on the 4th floor to bring the luggage in the library. So I said, Okay, I will, he then told me that I had to leave the luggage outside on the front steps of the library and leave it outside. I had a total fit with this black security guard about it. This is a tourist area and they are treating tourist like we are stupid people. CLOSE DOWN the library because you people are not smart enough to run one.
