I enjoy going to this museum. Ive been to several events and book signings and they have all been very well done. The exhibits are nice as well. I do wish that more folks on the Eastside knew about the space and utilized it.
Enjoyed our visit to the Matheson History Museum! Dixie was especially helpful in our quest to learn more about the Timacuan Indians. Thoroughly enjoyed the Tom Petty exhibit!!! This is one of Gainsevilles priceless Gems!!!
Very relevant local and statewide history. Always interesting and informative.
Helpful staff and a great place to learn.
Very good lecture. Only complaint is tbe museum was over crowded. People were sitting on floor and against. Dont know what legal capacity is but it had to be over that at this lecture.
Wonderful and unique presentation focused on area history. I highly recommend this museum to Gainesville residents and visitors!
Very notable local history, Frank Lloyd Wrights UF designs, the Floridas Fountain of Youth lore, and rare Sports memorabilia caps off an enriching visit.
Everyone in the Gainesville area should visit the Matheson at least once. The exhibits do change, so more than once is also a good idea. We went to hear an author talk about his book, but I have also been there with school groups. Much of the history of this area is on display at the Matheson and the docents are very knowledgeable. Check the hours before you go.
Not much there, but what is there is pretty cool! Nice to go to with family and friends.
Lovely museum. Went for a lecture which was very interesting.
Very nice with some cool stuff. Helpful staff but not overbearing. Nice and quiet, seems like free museums are getting scarce, especially nice ones like this.
Small but great little museum
Awesome History Local & Native American
Great little museum and history park for the Gainesville area. Nice resources available.Nice venue for functions.
Rude and judgemental
Wonderful insight into Gainesville history. If you like history need to see.
Musuem has a lot of old items from day to day life in 1800s. Found that very interesting. The gift shop also sells some of those items for cheap prices.
If you love local history, like UF, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings & the real Florida, & more, you will be happy here!
Its an awesome place to learn about the history of Gainesville FL as well as all of Florida....They have lots of interesting displays and lectures...Love it!!
Floridana show coming up Saturday, Oct. 20th.
Well displayed exhibits about local history, and a series of lectures on subjects and books of interest. There is also an archives for research.
Not a huge museum, but it is packed full of cool stuff related to Gainesville FL history specifically. If youre into late 19th century history then this is the place to visit. Cool replication of a general goods store of the era. There is also an amazing library of newspaper archives, old yearbooks from local schools (including UF) and various other papers here. The staff here is wonderfully helpful and will chat with you about all of the exhibits. There is also a great outdoor walking area, plus a few other houses and exhibitions in the area surrounding the main museum building. Youll need to call ahead and make an appointment in order to tour the ancillary buildings though. As of this review the museum is renovating another building across the street which will house the library and archives which will open space in the main building for new exhibits. Keep an eye on this space.
Really interesting.
Amazing history. Very open and very welcome of visitors
Good museum focused on local events. The museum has a library and recreation of a general store.
