Great spot for birdwatching. But it is overall good weekend escape in Bay area.Easy to spot varies coastal birds at all seasons and occasionally Golden Eagle hunting for food.Hawks and raptors are easy to spot here too.Be careful at the sun since there isnt much shade and it gets really hot during summer under the sun.

Gorgeous location for sunset photography and general viewing pleasure. Miles and miles of stunning panoramic views of the bay, baylands, mountains, and skyline (extraordinarily awesome and inspiring at sunset.) This is a very open area, with sea breezes, and moving waves. Here, human civilization is seems much less visible. It easily conjures up thoughts of what life was like 300 years ago and beyond, a time when human population was sparse.

This is a remarkable area, seemingly small, but worth a half day or more if you take time to stroll its trails. The views of the Bay and of the Dumbarton bridge near sunset are spectacular, and there are several vista points that are worth a hours contemplation. Its free, its never crowded, and despite its location, next to the Dumbarton toll both plaza and opposite Coyote Hill, it feels secluded. Go there some time and watch the bridge traffic whiz by.

So close, and yet so far... When walking on Baer Island you feel far away from the city, and yet 101 is just over yonder. Gates and fences keep local domestic animals out of the park so birds flourish. There are two raised platforms to stand on and really see the expanse of the park.

We generally go around the holidays when there is no staff. This is a beautiful park with salt marshes and wetlands. There are tons of birds. The only artificial sounds are airplanes and the occasional train.Due to the flatness of the land it can get quite windy. Parking is limited when the visitor center is closed.

Service here sucks. No one to check the birds in. Also they have to get their own food. During the hot glowing sunset as the flock of birds land, there was no one there to direct him to land. Also no landing zone for the birds; there was almost a mid air collision. Tax money should be used to build bird tower to communicate to the birds when to takeoff and land to avoid collisions.

We enjoyed walking around this area. There were a few egrets and lots of ground squirrels. Its a nice walk. There are also covered picnic tables and a sandy area where children can play. We hiked to the top of the hill where you can see for miles and were able to catch our breath at a bench in the shade. Theres a nice breeze up there to cool off after the hike up. We were there in the early afternoon so it was just starting to get hot. A really enjoyable spot for a short hike and picnic.

This is a great place to understand how wild life refuge works. Every month, there is a twilight march walk to understand the salt marsh, plants, habitat, birds. It is fun to learn while walking on the hills bathed in sunset. There is no entrance fee, but camping isnt allowed. The fish pier near the Bay doesnt require a fishing license.Near the small parking lot, there is a trail connecting with Coyote Hills Regional Park. Taking this trail, no fee is charged to enter Coyote Hills Regional Park. In summary, this is a heaven for animals and plants.

Went kayaking through one of the sloughs from the Marshlands Road and Thornton intersection. The parking lot and boat ramp had a lot of trash strewn about which was a little frustrating.Watch out for the mud on the boat launch, it will suck the shoes right off your feet! One in the slough, it was a much more pleasant experience. Plenty of bird life and a wide passage to paddle through.

A great place to appreciate the original natural ecosystem of the San Francisco Bay Area. You can see plenty of birds, as well as the flow of water in the Bay. In addition, the park has plenty of historical buildings, as well as displays where you can learn about the history of the Bay Area, especially about the lives of the hunters who would hunt in the area to sell their game in San Francisco.

The Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge is a hidden gem just of the Dumbarton Bridge on the Fremont east side of the bay. The refuge, not far from the bedroom suburb of San Francisco/San Jose, is a windswept scenic area of marshland. The wildlife refuge is fun to just hike the rugged landscape. However, I would recommend the nature walks that show case the variety of wild life in the area. I went on the gray fox walk and so enjoyed learning about this elusive animal so close to human habitats. Its a great place for family walks. Bring your binoculars. You never know what you may see.

A wonderful outdoor place to see the Bay and the nature around the Bay. You can enjoy a bird view from the hill or go close to the Bay to see the wetland. From time to time, there is an educational tour to walk around the place. Check out the schedule, as it is really helpful to learn when a knowledgeable expert is walking with you to point things out. Don Edwards is a convenient stop for a walk. And the price is right $0. A south wind is not a good time to go. Room to park, regular walkers make it safe, and the elevation gives fine views of the bay, bridges...and Newark. I like the slight elevation to give my legs a stretch but you can take a flat hike around the marsh or along the slough. The nature center is not much to see but little kids wont be so critical. Have fun.

I was visiting for one of the assignments i had for class. What I really liked about this place is the really cool sight of the colorful salt ponds, as well as the wetland full of animals, birds, and other organisms alike. All the way through the park are hiking trails that arent too demanding and waves of tall grass all over the hills. One thing i recommend doing while there is getting to the tallest hill and just looking onto the horizon no matter what time of day! By the way, if you are sensitive to allergies like me, i suggest taking something for it to have a more enjoyable experience.
