Super friendly staff, beautiful views and great outdoor seating area. Not a lot of seating inside and average wine selection. Food/snack offering was limited. A small bag of crackers was $12 which was overpriced for what you got. Would definitely still recommend if in the area.

Hilmy was the best winery and tasting experience ever! My husband and I came down to Fredericksburg to celebrate our first anniversary, and Hilmy came highly recommended by many different people. We made a reservation about a week out, and were both excited and at ease after seeing all of the staff wearing face masks, even while outside. This can’t be said for a lot of other businesses in Fredericksburg, so we were happy to know that we were giving our business to people who were considerate of others and were taking the risk seriously.I had the All Red tasting and my husband did the Winemaker’s mixed, with Viv as our tasting host. Everything we had was phenomenal, and Viv was so knowledgeable and fun to chat with, she really made the experience so enjoyable and entertaining. The space is beautiful, and there was a great musician doing live covers. We had the cheese tray and had some of the best Manchego and aged Gouda ever. Also, I finally found a rosé I liked so it was a win-win-win of a day! We will definitely be back. Thanks again, Viv!

Stopped and visited this winery during our motorcycle weekend trip to wine country. Explored Hwy 290 and stopped here because of the reviews and photos. Great experience overall. Staff was very friendly, attentive, and explained everything so well during our wine tasting. The back patio overlooking the vineyard is very nice as well! Highly recommend.

Everyone was so helpful and friendly here! Years ago I had a bottle of one of their red blends and I’ve been looking for it ever since but unfortunately it was discontinued. This weekend I visited with my husband and asked if they happened to know anything about this particular blend (just to see if I could get something similar). Not only did they try to find me a replacement, they actually found a bottle in the back! I never thought I would try it again! I’m so impressed with everyone who works there and I can’t thank them enough.

We went to 3 other wineries in the area and this was by FAR the best of the day! The staff was extremely friendly and casual, something that was few and far between in the other ones we visited!Great wine, open seating outside, and the friendliest staff! I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to visit the wineries of Fredericksburg before some of the more popular ones. The curly haired lady that took care of was very welcoming and not at all bougee or uptight. She seemed to enjoy her job and genuinely care about her customers. She made a GREAT wine suggestion that we all enjoyed!

I did enjoy my wine tasting, but the atmosphere was just different. It was loud, crowded, and I did feel a bit rushed in my tasting. I personally like to take my time and taste the wine by letting it sit in the glass for a few moments. By the time the person poured our tasting, without seconds the next bottle was ready for the next tasting. I am a bit confused about the vineyard itself. We asked about the bio-something technique we had read about, and we were told they used guinea fowl instead of pesticides to keep the bugs away. When we asked how that was going, we got a really weird response, well the vines are dead and the dog ate the guinea fowl! What?! I mean all vines are dormant this time of year, so that was definitely a weird response. I guess I didn’t understand if they do make all of their wines because they were talking about different vineyards and states. I tried to pay attention, but it was so loud in that place I could barely hear the person helping me! I would consider giving this place another try in the future. The wines we did taste were good for the most part, but again it did feel rushed.

Glad we decided to give this place a try! Inviting atmosphere, very reasonably priced wines, and we didn’t taste anything we didn’t like (never a bad problem to have)! Mason was such a delight during our tastings and provided quite the pleasant experience! We even decided to join the wine club! Can’t wait to go back! Be advised: dry wines, nothing sweet (perfect for us). Especially enjoyed the Tempranillo, Malbec, and “Juju”.

Our group of 8 girls had an amazing experience at Hilmy Cellars. We came in for a wine tasting and the GM, Andre, went above and beyond by giving us a tour of the winery including a look in the cellar. We were even able to sample a few wines straight from the barrel and he provided lots of interesting information about different varietals and plans they have for future blends. I wish we would have saved this winery for last on our wine tour as every one after paled in comparison to our experience!

My boyfriend and I decided to stop here on our way out of Fredericksburg. We had just come from a tasting at Fredericksburg Winery, which was great! We decided to share a tasting glass since we were about to drive to lunch and then home. The price was fair, $20/6 tastes. This place seemed “higher end” I suppose, or at least that’s what they were going for. They definitely treated us differently since we weren’t spending as much as others. Then we decided to cut it short because we wanted to make sure we were being responsible. The hostess rolled her eyes and said “what do y’all want.” She then stood there annoyed until we finished the last two and didn’t even bother to rinse out our glasses between tastes. I then asked for her to check us out, still expecting to pay the full amount. She said it was “really alright” in an annoyed way and said we could just go. No one should be treated differently just because of the amount they’re expected to pay!

My husband and I stopped by on a Monday to do a wine tasting while visiting Fredericksburg for our 1 year wedding anniversary. It was dead there which worked in our favor because we were able to talk one on one with Larry who was doing our tasting. He was very knowledgeable and even gave us suggestions on which vineyards to try after we left. Each vineyard in the area has its own style and atmosphere and Hilmy was very laid back which we enjoyed. Larry even offered to take a photo of us on the patio after our tasting. The tastings are $20 per person for 6 samples, 3 whites and 3 reds. At first we only did the tasting and decided not to by a bottle until after we visited a few more places (this was stop 1 out of 4), but after leaving and visiting a few more wineries we decided to head back to Hilmy and get a bottle of their Malbec Reserve. We are now waiting to open it until our 2nd anniversary, at which point we will buy a new bottle from wherever we have decided to vacation to that year. Over all we would definitely recommend visiting this vineyard

This was our third stop of the day. I had reviewed the website and loved the winery story (Erik Loves what he is doing). Great front door. We asked a couple that had just came out and got in their car what they thought of the winery and they gave us two thumbs up. As we were walking in another couple leaving also said great winery. My wife and I went in and loved the feel and we each started our tasting and we had a wonderful time talking about the Texas hill country and wines with Dave. We are mainly red wine drinkers, however the white wines here were awesome as were the reds. We left we three bottles to add to our collection. I’ve been a member of Hilmy for several years and it is still my absolute favorite in Texas. The wine is spectacular and the property is gorgeous and eclectic. (LOVE the wall in the tasting room). My boyfriend and I visited on our way home from Fredericksburg yesterday and had the pleasure of meeting their new Sommelier and manager, Andre. He is a GEM and is going to bring so much to the winery. He took his time getting to know us and sharing an amazing tasting with us while taking us on a tour of the production area and new members tasting room (including a barrel tasting of some beautiful new wines in the making!) Andre is so knowledgeable about wines and really made the tasting experience something unique and special for us. We left there with a new friend and can’t wait to go back to visit. I’ve always appreciated and supported Hilmy, but it truly does just keep getting better. Don’t pass this one up :)

Visited a couple of weeks ago for my birthday and I was not disappointed! I liked every single wine we got in the tasting, with some of them being among the very best Ive had in Fredericksburg ever. If youre into cabs, try the Juju, you wont be disappointed. If youre into Rosés, try the 2017 new release. The Mouvedre was also one of my favorites. Theres a little bit for every palate. (Not any sweet wines though, so if youre into those this may not be the best place) We loved the wines so much we became members of their wine club. Cant wait for the fall release. On a side note, they had a friendly hog as a pet outside, I thought that was very cute.

After hearing rave reviews from two VERY knowledgeable wino friends whose cellars are impressive, we finally came here with another couple recently. The exterior of this sleepy-appearing winery wont win any awards; however, the sleepiness ends at the door. Literally. The entry door is centrally hinged and about a foot thick of solid wood. Sounds weird, but that attention to details raised my antennae. The receptionist at the welcome desk warmly greeted us and steered to a super-cool and very knowledgeable staffer. He tended to us in a very laid back manner: no pressure. He knew every flippin detail about the vineyards, fruit, the process, and the taste of each wine. Oh, and the wines. Theyre serious contenders. The white wines are THE BEST that Ive had in Texas Hill Country: velvety smooth bursting with gorgeous fruit and spice notes. The reds were just a step behind. At at time when esposa and I are trying to reel in our wine club memberships, Hilmys wines were just too damned good to ignore, so we piggybacked on our friends for a membership. If youre looking for high-quality, cellar-worthy wines at a reasonable price, look no further. So, you ask: why not 5 stars? Because the reds werent quite there.

Their wine were either a hit or miss with me during my flight tasting, but I remember leaving here thoroughly enjoying the experience despite our servers lack of knowledge on their wine (it was only her 2nd day on the job). There was another thing Ill remember about this tasting room and thats the very noticeable pair of great white Pyrenees that roam around seeking petting from guests and AC from the heat. I first visited Hilmy with a group of about 20. As we were taking in the views in the back with a couple bottles of wine. The owners wife came out and brought us a fresh baked loaf of sourdough bread. Then later on she came back around to ask for some feedback on the bread as they were looking to possibly make it available for the customers. She then sat down with us and talked to us about Hilmy and how they came about starting the winery. It was such an awesome experience that my girlfriend and I stopped in on our drive back to Houston to get a few bottles which came with a free wine tasting and more info about the wines. Easily my favorite winery on both wine and experience.

Hilmy is a welcome break from some of the larger, more crowded wineries on the 290 Wine Trail. It boasts a nice shaded patio area (with misting fans!) overlooking a field of grape vines. The winery is a working farm, so if you sit and stay for a while you may see dogs, guinea fowl, sheep and goats. I love to bring snacks and enjoy a glass of wine outdoors (but if you have food, dont be surprised if one of the farm friends pays you a visit!).The wine here is fantastic--they use as many grapes grown on-site as possible, and anything additional they have to buy comes from Texas. The wine pourers are friendly and attentive no matter how crowded the tasting room is. I always feel welcome and at ease here (plus I usually end up bringing a bottle home for later). Whether youre hitting the trail for the first time or the twentieth, be sure to stop in!

My husband and I went in for a tasting and were so completely impressed with Hilmy Cellars. We walked in when it was very very busy; it is usually tough for even the best wineries to give good service when they are that packed, but wow!I am an educator so I am so happy when people teach others about a craft that they obviously have a passion for, and this is the staff at Hilmy. We learned about the time different grapes spend on the vine, how long the skin is on in different processes and we even got to meet the pest control (they have a crew of surprisingly friendly chickens, sheep and dogs that are the natural pest control). The wines are dry and complex. They pushed me out of my comfort zone... I am usually a red girl but went home with a bottle of red and white!Needless to say we became members here.We came back the next day to introduce our friends to Hilmy and the staff but only remembered us but treated us as part of their flock. All around amazing wines and truly an amazing staff. This will definitely be one of those vineyards we hit every time that we come to Fredericksburg.

Hilmy is my favorite Texas winery. This summer by then Fiance and I took a long weekend in Fredericksburg and this was one of the first and last we tried. The wines are unique and while the selection on hand is less than 10 there is always something new to try. Sadly they are no longer making our favorite wine, The Temp. I have yet to find its equal. The prices are decent but a little higher then what I feel comfortable with, but we enjoy it so much we joined the wine club anyway. The staff is knowledgeable and for the most part friendly. One lady was a bit pretentious and off putting, but other than her we enjoyed everyone we talked to. Including the owner when we met him.The wine room itself is charming, Lots of wood and art. Fun place to have a glass. The patio is also lovely. We went out there back in July and again in October and the birds are fun to watch. Although the peacocks have gone away now and its just cute lil chickens. We enjoyed this trip so much we went back to have our engagement photos taken there. The free publicity prompted our friends to try the winery when they were up there. Youd think that would earn us a glass but alas this stuff is too good to just give away.
