This place illustrates the difference between temporary encampment with brief friction facilitating withdrawal and a decision to retreat. Federal troops did not regard this as a strategic location but Confederates regarded it as a place to potentially tie the Federals into knots which did not happen.
I loved this tour! Great guide with a sound knowledge of the history of this site. I also liked the purpose of the nonprofit of preserving the history of the site.
I loved going here it was so much fun the historian was amazing telling us how the war was fought, Christine was her name and she did an excellent job.
The history behind this place is amazing. Unfortunately it was over shadowed by a very rude tour guide. There are much nicer ways of saying things to people.
David did a wonderful job explaining the battle. His passion came thru!!
This civil war battle is not one that I learned about in grade school history classes. CLIFF(I think) was the tour guides name, and he is one heck of a good tour guide. He is very knowledgable about the battle and events leading up to it. I will spare the details because you should not miss the battlefield tour, and I dont want to spoil it. Well done Clifford.
Our guide mike was excellent, very informative on the battle.
Our docent for the tour was outstanding! Best I ever experienced. Former history teacher who told a story, not just facts. His wrap-up at the end was heartfelt and moving. A must-see if you go to Franklin!
Having experienced tours of many different civil war battlefields i can honestly write th Battle of Franklin Battlefield Tour hands down was th most informative & detailed as Ive ever witnessed. Th the description and knowledge shared by our Guide created a mental picture putting us on that field of fire & 5 hours of horror is something no one will soon forget. I definitely recommend everyone make every opportunity to stop at this most historic site and relive this pivotal point in American history. Thanks and gratitude to the entire staff of th Battle of Franklin Battlefield Preservation Society for their steadfast dedication of factual history from th 1st Armor 37th Regimental Recall it was an honour to experience your tour.rydsafe️
Fantastic would recommend this for anyone interested in our nations history tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly take the time to go see it
The tour was excellent and very informative. The narrator did a great job of explaining about the Battle of Franklin, so well that I could almost feel the fear those people experienced. Well done!
We visited on a Monday afternoon and had the best tour guide Ive ever had. Personable. Prepared. Extremely knowledgeable. Well paced. Artifacts and building were very interesting.
Interesting, easily accessible, great tour and gift shop. Our guide was awesome.
Interesting fact...we moved to TN recently from WI. We have taken visitors to the Carter House twice. The first time we had a male tour guide. He was charming, animated and full of battle stratigies and facts. Very interesting. And we were very taken with the experience. When we went back a 2nd time with different visitors, we had a female guide. I was disappointed because we so enjoyed our 1st experience. However, my disappointment was short lived. The 2nd tour was much more emotionally oriented. Facts about the family and how the felt and what they endured. We actually had a moment when we all shed a few years. Totally different than our first tour but, awesome as well. I highly recommend!
We went in the welcome center to check on tickets... The tickets were $18.00 per person... We were not expecting it to be this much so we decided to pass.. Maybe another time when we are in the area again...
Very friendly and knowledgeable tour guide - To the Battle of Franklin Trust- Thank you so much for preserving this bit of the Civil War history. This area is very well kept, and lends great visuals of the past. Remembering our past may allow for not repeating such an event in our future.
There is some really interesting stuff in this little museum behind the Carter House. The metal coffin may be one of the most interesting to many people, especially when one hears the story of its discovery. The bookstore is good, too. There are many books available that are Franklin and Middle Tennessee Campaign specific there. If one is interesting in the battles in the area, this is a great place to start.
Battle of Franklin Civil War Museum is now better known as the Carter House Museum. Guided tour, for a fee, provides great detail of how the Battle unfolded and the history of the Carter House area where a majority of the Battle of Franklin took place.
Beautiful location and a great history lesson for the kids
Very educational. Took a tour of the battlefield.
Interesting but I think too expensive ($18 a ticket) for whats available to see.
Great tour guide. So interesting!
Tour of the Carter House was very informative. Bullet holes in the Farm Office were very exciting.
Great historical site along with the shortest battle in the Civil War
Its important we preserve and pass along our history. These people do a great job doing that.
The guides had alot of passion when telling the stories. Very educational.
Learned history I didnt know.
A great to visit and learn!
The tour guide was helpful and knew her stuff. Such an interesting place.
High marks for the place. The docent makes all the difference in the tour. Ours was scattered and gave information in disorganized random thoughts. They kept adding people to our tour up to 15 minutes in. I felt bad for those who paid full price but didnt get the whole experience.
A must see! Great history!
Very interesting!
Very humbling. The tour of the Carter house was worth the money.
The battle of Franklin is a must see for everyone. The experience will bring you into the time of 1860-1864 and place you in the shoes of the people living the battle. So So Amazing and I am going back to the reenactment.
It was great and the guide was awesome
Everything was wonderful but the reenactment was pitiful. 40 minutes of just standing there and shooting no falling no horses. If had never been to a real reenactment. It might have been better. It wasnt worth standing for 2 hours 1/2.
A wonderful. Place to visit to learn about our history.
Great historical site and story
One if the best historical tours available.
