The vistor center was closed (not sure why) but the military park was open to drive through. You could stop at the numbered posts, call a number or go to their website and follow along for the history of each site. There were plenty of walking trails as well.

The visitor center completed the wonders of the battlefield. You can attend the museum for free. They have all the guns they used as well as cannonballs and muskets. Even a part of a tree work a cannonball stuck in it. It explains the route they took and what all the buildings that are randomly in the woods are. If you live history explore this place before to explore the woods. They also have a theater but I think it costs just a few dollars to attend

The visitors center does a great job of explaining the battle. There is a 26 minute video that is very helpful explaining the battle. There is also a museum that is very good. The most amazing part is the rifle collection. There must be 800 different well preserved rifles. The visitors center has clean restrooms. The park is no charge. The drive route is well marked and descriptive plaques are everywhere. There is also an audio app. The map marks the main stopping places but there is more to the park than just the drive parts. There are hiking, biking and horseback trails all over the park. This is a must visit if you have any interest in the civil war.

This is a spectacular national battlefield park. The visitor center had a great museum and the movie was wonderful. I would recommend watching it prior to the driving tour to understand the battle. There was tons of beautiful monuments, very similar or more than Gettysburg. It was incredible to see how the battle unfolded and just the sheer scale and size of it. Definitely my top 2 civil war battlefields with Gettysburg the other.

Best place to social distance and have a day trip. Just outside of Chattanooga. The park is dedicated to the Union win over the Confederate. The park takes you through routes to reach each battlefield the war was fought on (which is a lot of acres). We drove each land mark in our car only having to stop and get out for a few routes to view monuments. The grass was really high so some were really hard to get too. Although we drove there were nice scenic routes suited for walking, and biking. The highlight was the Wilder tower. Normally you could walk up but it was closed this time due to Covid. Also the museum and visiting center were closed so we didnt get to visit.

My father was a National Park Ranger and we lived inside the Park until I was seven years old, so pardon me if I may be a little bias. This isnt just a place with national historic significance. It has also been my home. Its also a beautiful place of nature full of hiking trails and wildlife. Its a great place to bicycle, walk, picnic, play ball, and relax.

Visited the battlefield as part of a school history field trip, and it was a great experience. The visitors center contained plenty of information about the history and significance of Chickamauga, and also some other events relevant to its time period. We were then escorted, with a tour guide, to see some important historic buildings that played a part in the battle.

This place is well maintained and preserved for the next generations to know the history of the country and why wars can lead to a lot of damage to man kind. This place is a example of internal war that cost more than half a million lifes. We have visited the Manassas battle field last month and it is also well preserved. But the difference is Manassas is in much bigger place in Virginia. Because we visited this place on independence day, the place is very well decorated with flags and very pleasing to see it all. You will enjoy it and best place to learn the history of country.

Well worth a stop. The visitors centre itself is easily worth up to an hour and the rangers are very friendly and knowledgeable. If its available, the ranger-led car caravan tour is highly recommended. The downside is you miss much of the site (though you could always double-back later) but its very sobering to hear a real person describe how things would have been and to read memos and letters from the soldiers themselves. A great way to bring it to life.

If you take a moment in solitude and silence on the battlefield, meditate in earnest quietly and you will hear them that perished from the devastating battle. They want you to know how they endured a long, untenable war, and they want you to know and acknowledge how they died brave soldiers. They don’t want their great story forgotten thus they will have died in vain. Don’t let their story and great peril be forgotten.

Exhibits, a movie and small collection of items to view. Pick up a map here to guide you around the tremendous battlefields. There are monuments and placards everywhere. If you are a hiker you can walk these locations but I would suspect it would take many hours. Instead I suggest utilizing your car because there are pulloffs along the way so that you can walk and read the descriptions. Really enjoyed the trip here. Also, if you pick-up one of the maps and follow it you can listen in order of how the battles transpired.Nice job National Park Service!
