This gym would have been fine. My wife and I got there, and they had to close the gym within 20 minutes of our arrival for cleaning (kind of understandable given the current climate). Then, I needed a refresher on belaying for my wife, and the girl working the counter told me that I would have to take the course because I forgot how to do a couple things that I would have remembered in two minutes if I could have just seen it done one time. I understand how that could be a liability, and I would have been more willing to accept it if she didn’t drop my wife on her back. If you are going to criticize someone who is rusty on belaying, you shouldn’t have climbers landing on their back on the mat when you’re belaying.

Had a hard time deciding between 2 and 3 stars for this place given it is likely a small business and I am weary of giving low ratings to small business. However, there are several low cost changes that they could incorporate that would increase value of the venue.Despite all the issues: In lack of a better location I still recommend the gym since you can climb there and climbing is a fun and healthy sport.Pros:1. One of the closest climbing locations to where we were (still a 40 min drive).2. Not sure if it is a pro but the lack of good bouldering routes made us use of our creativity.Cons:1. They advertise bouldering but their bouldering wall is less than 9 ft wide and 9 ft tall and woefully inadequate.2. They recommend people use the top rope routes as bouldering but only climb to low heights. However, if this is the intent, they should mark with a line the highest position a boulderer should climb. Moreover, bouldering without mats is not safe or appropriate.3. The place has no AC which makes it unbearably hot (even in the winter!).4. Registration is still done on paper instead of a tablet application.5. They offer some food and drinks for purchase but the freezers are all partially empty which give a decayed feel.Disclosure: I am reviewing from the perspective of a boulderer. For a person that does top rope some of the cons do not apply. However, they advertise both bouldering and top rope which is misleading.

This place is a gem. They put a lot of effort into their routes, the staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. They’ll even offer to belay you if you don’t have a partner. They also have a cool bouldering wall that let’s set routes on your own. I would highly recommend this to anyone climbing near Fort Lauderdale.

The community here is amazing. If you are new to climbing and don’t have a belay partner, just come in on a weekday evening (6 pm onward) and introduce yourself to the members and you will find partners in no time. The training facilities are great (tension board, campus board, weights) and while the walls are short, the route setting is challenging. Just come in and get addicted like the rest of us.

Coral Cliffs has an awesome atmosphere. Our instructor Abby was highly energetic and very informative. She was there to help when we needed it but also let us do our own thing. Jacob, who helped us book our belay lesson over the phone, also rocked. The gym its self is oriented toward a more experienced climbers. Would definitely recommend bringing a decent amount of water since there is no AC and no water fountains (the gyms only downsides if that sort of stuff bothers you). If youre a low maintenance climber just looking for a good time, this place is for you.

I will start by saying that who is working there that day makes the difference in the gym.I have been there a few times because I really enjoy the small business feel compared to other near by gyms that I have been to. All previous visits I have had were GREAT and I enjoyed them. However, recently I had a really discouraging visit because of an employee. He was very demeaning, belittling, and rather rude. It was that kind of experience that just makes you never want to go back, which is a shame since I enjoyed visiting the gym.I rarely ever put ratings but this particular incident really bothered me. Hopefully, it is addressed because overall the business is a really cool place. I would reccomend bringing your own shoes - some sizes are really run down.Im still giving the gym a high rating and would reccomend going because its a dope place! My hope is that when you do visit - that particular employee is in less of a d-bag mood! Happy climbing!

I have to echo others it was hot. There is no AC in this gym. They had fans. Just wish they advertised that so you make plans accordingly. There was one guy serving the whole place and all the customers. Poor thing he was not in a good mood. He was a bit belligerent with us. Don’t blame him it was hot there were at least 25 ppl who needed his help. The owners need to have more people on hand. There are restrooms at this locations. When you look up in the ceiling you realized there is a huge chunk missing from the ceilings. My little girls and I used the bathroom before we realized the lack of privacy that hole created. The owners are aware because there has been some attempt to cover the hole up. Overall negative experience. The set up of the gym is nice!

I read all of the reviews, especially the negative ones and wanted to give everyone an update. I dont work there, I dont know the owners so this is totally unbiased. It appears they recently upgraded the mattresses and I was there this past week (August 2016) and everything looked brand new. They still have a section under construction, but the mats underneath it again, look brand new.It still kind of smells, but its an un-air-conditioned warehouse in South Florida in the summer with a bunch of sweaty people in it. It is what it is. I had e-mailed them to inquire about a reservation but never heard back. I had to call and make an appointment which was a bit annoying, but its south Florida so you kind of expect a lack of service. Once there, the staff has always been friendly and helpful. They helped belay and for the $35 per hour, including equipment and a staff person to belay, I think its a decent deal.In summary, call and make sure you speak with someone to confirm your appointment and you should enjoy the experience. Im a very novice climber so the routes they had were more than sufficient for me.

Im purely talking about the bouldering section here, as the top rope routes were good, as was the staff; but that being said the bouldering section could use some serious improvement. There was little to no rhyme or reason behind the routes, and it seems like holds were placed haphazardly with little to no thought. Ive climbed in a bunch of different places all over, and have seen great, mediocre, and terrible route setting and this is by far the worst. Maybe someone had an off day or decided to set the routes while blindfolded, but the bouldering section needs to be reset, and done by someone who is actually gonna put some thought into it.

(Note: I do not work here, but I do train here three days a week.) Coral Cliffs is a great climbing gym for serious training and for first time climbers. Although the gym is smaller than others, coral has a lot of variety. This gym has come a long way since old reviews on here. All the pads are new, and the routes change on a cycle that ends up having new routes every month, sometimes more. The staff is friendly and helpful. For serious climbers, the circuit wall is amazing training. They grade harder than all the gyms I have been, including most gyms in FL and in Denver CO. If you are a new climber, or a climber looking for a variety of challenge. Check out Coral Cliffs

This place is a joke of a climbing gym. If you are an experienced climber looking for a good indoor gym, this is not it. I went in to boulder for an evening and wished I hadnt. The roped climbing looked ok, but the walls are only about 20-25 tall. The bouldering cave is only 8 tall on some sketchy homemade wall. There is no drinking water in the facility, unless you want to purchase bottled water. I thought that was ridiculous - a climbing gym in south Florida heat and humidity without a drinking fountain. I dont think there was a bathroom either.

!!! Edit: While I haven’t been back here, I can see significant new updates to their bouldering setup in user photos. My review describes the gym’s rocky past, not its present. Read more recent reviews for accuracy. I wrote this to pressure the gym to improve. They have and I respect that....If falling onto deflated and torn hospital mattresses with exposed metal springs placed loosely over concealed wooden platforms and concrete floors is your thing, try the bouldering pass. The stack of four hangboards towering twice my six foot tall brothers height with not a single pad beneath them was pretty horrifying. I dont particularly think falling my own height to the concrete below is worth a few pullups.Probably the most obvious dont ever do that element of the bouldering section was the monstrous twenty foot tall wooden beam resting idly against the wall, perfectly aligned with the entire claustrophobic sitting area, just begging to be tipped. The worst part was seeing the oblivious little kids topping out on a wall without a down climb over a floor that nobody bothered to put pads on. The kids I watched didnt know to move the mats, nor did their parents really understand that either. The kids crawled on top of the back side of the bouldering structure where there are screws sticking out and spare parts lying around. They crawled behind the white climbing wall into the dark storage room back there too.Theres a six inch rise of wood beneath the two inches of mattress the gym has generously provided. Seeing as almost all of the poorly set routes require being upside down with your feet digging into uncleaned holds and pressed against greased up walls, I can only imagine the back pain of those who werent cautious enough to avoid landing on it. Imagine lying three blankets over a step and diving onto it back first. There is one actual mattress with thickness to it but instead of being designed to absorb, its springs bounce you right back off. Combined with the fact that theres not enough space to place it flat and not enough mattresses to cover behind it, its just as likely to toss you back off onto the concrete as it is to catch you. There are spiderwebs in the upper joints, literally a yellow foam mattress with no cover, a giant metal fan sitting around in the middle of everything, some old exercise equipment tossed in the corners, absolutely no supervision, slippery surfaces and crummy holds.I escaped with my head intact for the low low price of fifteen dollars and about half an hour of desperate time wasting.Zero out of any number you care to count to. You guys should be ashamed to actually allow people to pay for an unmaintained portion of your gym knowing full well my entrance fee was worth more than every one of those mattresses. That the cost was nearly as much as that of the other 98% of the gym adds an extra layer of insult.Close it off, clean it up, and stick to your top roping like responsible adults.

South Florida has no mountains. Thats okay though, because we have Coral Cliffs. While the gym is relatively small it boasts a variety of climbing options and a range of difficulty that should provide scalable challenges to all levels of climber. Plenty of features and even a bouldering area make up for a lack of overall height. Theres even some lead climbing options.Experienced setters create interesting challenges considering the limitations of the space, so dont be put off by the low ceilings. Youll find some of the most interesting crux problems youve ever encountered on these walls, many of them drawn from real rock walls around the world. Not every route is five stars, but youll see a creativity on the walls that you wont find in much larger gyms. There are a few downsides though. Because its the only rock climbing gym in Ft Lauderdale the gym can get crowded during peak hours. Due to its diminutive size, it doesnt take much to get to that point. Needless to say, the most crowded areas are often the easier routes. Finding out the peaks and when the best time to go is may take a little trial and error. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful but theres not a lot of them and while they do their best to serve everybody, sometimes they cant get to everybody at the same time, which can cause some frustration. Phone calls dont always get answered, and sometimes youll be waiting at the front desk to check in. I encourage you to call back in a few minutes or simply wait patiently for the staff - its worth the wait. For information on what they offer their website has quite a bit of info, and several contact options if you need more detail. The heat during the summer can be impressive, so make sure to stay hydrated. You will sweat. A lot. This isnt so much an issue with the gym as much as the nature of being in South Florida. There are refreshments available for purchase but water is always available. Visiting during the evening once the great fireball in the sky is set is a good solution to this. Finally theres the pricing. Its arguably on the high side, but it certainly improves somewhat with options like monthly memberships. Even so, being the only gym in Lauderdale allows it to set a price profile that is somewhat higher than a gym of that size might otherwise command. Keep in mind though, that if that profile were set any lower the gym might become impossibly packed, so theres a silver lining.Worth visiting? Absolutely. If youre from out of town you definitely need to visit just to see why Florida climbers pull so hard out on real rock, and the kind of dedication to the sport the South Florida community has. If youre local and want to try something new and fresh to mix up your workout routine, I can tell you this: youve never tried anything like this, youll most likely fall in love with it, and its going to be the best workout of your life.

The short of it: 1.) This gym wants regular climbers only 2.) This gym has about 40 ropes in a smaller space that is crowded. The long of it: I was going to go rock climbing for my first time in two years. I am finishing up medical school so I have been very busy. I walked in and it was packed. There was probaly 10 ropes available. I wasnt deterred by this and figured there was still space to climb. We had to sign the aggreement, which took a great deal of time. It wasnt the workers fault. There was too much going on for one worker. It took us 35 minutes to get into shoes and a harness. Then we went to the belay test where we had to show we knew how to tie up. I stood there with one figure-eight around my harness. I hadnt gone in a while and was trying to remember how to trace back the knot. She came back over in about five minutes and said, The belay test is pass/fail, you guys will not be climbing today. I said Id like a refund and she proceeded to do so and we left. I wasted an hour rather than enjoying one of my favorite past times. I wish so many things could have happened differently. ........Awful experience and I will not return. I would advise anyone to proceed to a different establishment.

All the money they charge and they cant afford proper safety equipment- they had heavily used mattresses from a thift store that had stains and were busted open with God knows what crawling in them. After checking out the bouldering area we decided to use the ropes- a group of 5/6 were being trained as we filled out our paperwork and there was only one instructor. We waited an hour to be helped as we looked on despairly as everyone else after us started climbing. The woman at the desk obviously didnt communicate to the main instructor- and told us it would be 10 minutes. This place needs a manager and more staffing- we will not be returning- beware!!!!!!!

First off I should probably mention that I am relatively spoiled when it comes to climbing gyms. I lived in the Pacific Northwest and climbing gyms are a lot more frequent there. So when I finally made it out to Ft. Lauderdale to climb for the first time in a month I was really excited. The place seemed a little sketchy and hard to find, but it is normal for climbing gyms to be in warehouses; however the inside was much worse than usual. I waited at the front desk for 5 minutes until finally someone showed up (the only person on duty Im pretty sure). I paid $15 for bouldering, which would not be bad, except that this gyms boulder area is a joke. Not only is it tiny, but also clearly unprofessionally constructed. In addition to feeling a little scared, the routes had hardly any flow and all of them were sloped.Dont get me wrong, the gym itself might not be so bad after all, but only if you trying to toprope/lead, for which it had a much larger area available.I will certainly not visit again, and instead hope the x-treme gym in Miami is better....
