Great place to know the history of the Railroads of the area. Gary was very informative about the museum and explained me so much.it was an interesting story to hear how the train head in the museum was shipped from Petersburg, Pennsylvania to St Michael, Alaska all around North and South America back in 1899 because there was no Panama canal and then on a Paddlewheel boat to Chena.Gary you are the bestThank you
This place is amazing! The work they do for the engine they have restored is exceptional! They are all volunteers and they donate hours of their own time and of their own money to be able to continue their efforts. They are always looking for volunteers! When they run their locomotive it is one of a kind!
Great museum to visit whats the information Tanana Valley Railroad great people to talk with cant wait for summer time Memorial Day to run the steam locomotive
This is a wonderful Railroad museum that not only houses the first locomotive in the Yukon and Interior Alaska, but has history about all of Alaska, steam locomotives, and railroads in and around Alaska. They restored Engine #1 to a full running service, and so many times a year they take passengers around Pioneer Park. You can have a free tour of their museum and shop, and possibly even ring the bell of Eng. #1! Along with the locomotive, they have a true Ford Model-T which is known as a Depot Hack that takes luggage to the luggage car from the depot. They also have speeders and other rolling stock to see!
The park and museum are open from noon to 8 p.m. daily between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
