We stayed in the Yurt and had a 7 mile dog sled with Eleanor. It was an amazing stay and Eleanor was incredibly helpful and made us feel very much at home - even as two city kids who were absolutely useless. Shes incredibly great at guiding and extremely knowledgeable about the local area & typical travelers needs. In terms of the dog sled ride, shes a complete pro. Her dogs are trained incredibly well and they are all super cute and friendly. My favorite moments were playing with the dogs, meeting and learning their names. Sweet pups and a great team. Definitely recommended for any trip to Alaska in the winter - you must stop here!

Worth the $95 per person. 10/10 would mush with Jim and his leaders, Shadow and Spider, when we come again! They have everything you might need for a fun and comfortable ride. I highly recommend bringing a gimbal or a GoPro to record your ride! Don’t forget to tip your musher!

Spent 1 hour on a dogsled. Owner is Super friendly. They rented us thick clothes and Alaska snow shoes to keep us warm on the ride. Dogs are cute and price is fairer compared to other dog mushing centers. 5 stars!

This was our first trip to Alaska and we went there in February for the northern lights. In the winter months there aren’t a lot of activities we find interesting but dogsledding was one of them.We arrived on time and was greeted by one of the staff working there immediately. After going over some waiver and making sure we were warm and well dressed, we were introduced to our tour guide Tom.Tom was a cool guy and his sled had 10 dogs for myself and my wife. I guess you need that many dogs for a group of 3 people including the guide.Off we went and it was a great experience sitting in the sled with a group of dogs dragging you along. The dogs were really enjoying it and they got excited even before we got started.Along the way Tom stopped a few times to allow the dogs to take a break and also allow my wife and I each standing near the back of the sled and ride along for a few minutes. The entire trip took probably 40-50 minutes. It was a long trip but it felt so short. We’ve read reviews of other dogsledding tours around Fairbanks and many of the reviews claimed they got only 20 minutes of ride for a 2 hour tour. Just Short if Magic does not do that. We booked a 1 hour trip and we got 1 hour with most of the time spent on the sled.I’d highly recommend Just Short of Magic if you want a good dogsledding experience around Fairbanks.

Rode an ATV behind 8 dogs today, as there was not quite enough snow to make it a decent ride on a sled. I loved every moment of this place, from the time I rolled up to the time I left. I was greeted by the dogs, barking in chorus, then walked to the door and was warmly greeted by Eloise and Trevor. I got an update for my clothes to some warmer ones, then went out to play with the dogs as Dennis changed teams from the last ride to mine.I took the hour ride and enjoyed every minute of it. Dennis was a wealth of knowledge and insight into the world of mushing. I pet a few more of the dogs, got some hot chocolate, and enjoyed the heated floors!

Absolutely phenomenal experience at Just Short of Magic! My family came in for the mushing class and we all walked away saying it was a not-to-be-missed Alaska experience. Eleanor was kind and great to talk with. She had some amazing experiences to share. She, Sebastian and Darren were our mushers/instructors. All were excellent--thorough and patient with us. The dogs were so happy and incredibly friendly. We spent a while meeting them (and a while saying goodbye before leaving :)). Highly recommend the Mushing School Tour! It was the most worthwhile activity we did during our visit to Alaska.

Omg this place. The dogs and the owner Elaine and the staff are super amazing. We were a group of photographers that were there to shoot and also go on sled rides. I personally was on a ride where Darren was the musher and it was so peaceful and he also gave us a lot of info about the dogs and mushing. Totally recommend.

Eleanor and the rest of the team were awesome. They took such care of me and my husband! They made sure we had the proper attire and gear before our ride, and treated us to hot cocoa and tea after. They were very knowledgeable about their dogs and the sport and answered all of our questions. It was a blast!

The highlight of our Alaska trip! We were blown away by the hospitality and kindness that Eleanor showed from the moment we stepped out of the car. We are dog people and knew we had to make a stop at one of the dog mushing kennels while in Alaska. I read plenty of reviews of several locations and Just Short of Magic seemed like THE place to go. I wanted to add yet another GREAT review for Eleanor and her dogs. We got to take time and visit with each dog and I think they enjoyed it as much as we did. The only regret that we have is that we live SO far away and cant visit more frequently. Thank you Eleanor for a wonderful experience on our trip to Alaska! We hope to be back soon!

We stayed in the Fairbanks/Denali area for a week, and this was our favorite part - we stayed two nights in the Yurt here and did the mushing school experience. Our kids loved mushing, but also getting to help with the dogs and love on them. The yurt was very cozy and comfortable for the four of us. The breakfasts were wonderful and the owner is a wonderful woman and excellent host. Definitely recommend!!!

Eleanor was awesome! She had plenty of gear for us to borrow including gloves, coats, boots, and more! Which was very reassuring that we werent going to freeze! We rode with Jeremy and his dog team for the 30 minute tour and it was amazing! He was so knowledgeable and answered all of the questions we came up with. The dogs were so sweet and so fun to play with and meet. The tour was a literal winter wonderland through the Chena River Valley and even though it was -20° Eleanor made sure we were layered correctly and we did not freeze! Our eyelashes got a bit frosty but the tour didnt suffer AT ALL despite the temperature. If you have the chance to go, dont the the temperature scare you off. DO IT! Its one of the most amazing experiences weve ever done. Thank you, it really was Just Short of Magic.

My wife & I and our two kids (12 & 11 y/o) really enjoyed our two night stay and dog sledding experience at Just Short of Magic. The owner and team really love & take care of their dogs. (They are buddies, not pets.) We stayed in the only lodging (Yurt) available at Just Short of Magic. My family and I enjoyed our Yurt experience, but it may not be for everyone. We highly recommend Just Short of Magic!!!

Awesome time! 5 of us went in mid December. First had a great time meeting the super friendly dogs. Then were trained on mushing & hooking the dogs to the sleds. Trainers were champion mushers and really friendly. They let each of us actually drive the sleds on the hour long ride, giving commands to the dogs, controlling speed, etc. What a fantastic must-do with helpful, friendly staff!
