This place was really cool! Very informative! The walk is a little long, but you have three options for how much you want to walk. The exhibit inside is cool, but when one of the statues started talking, I jumped! It was hilarious!

Interesting overall, but could use some love and care. Could be because we visited in late winter, but trails arent marked, even though the person at the front desk indicated that they would be.Willing to give it a second chance later on in the season.

Poorly marked trail, was unable to effectively see all the mounds due to them not being well marked and the map provided was useless. They do not allow pets due to it being a national historic site. The museum was well done and interesting.

Got to enjoy again after several years. I used to come here from South Carolina to attend our native American Indians. They were back this weekend 09/21/ 09/22 2019. Hope that it gets back to the way it once was. There is a lot of history at this place. Would advise anyone to visit take your children grandchildren to teach and show them the historical wonders of this land.

Totally awesome visit! Keep in mind that this is a large area and is a historical site. You will have to use your imagination and picture this site will thousands of people and buildings that arent standing anymore. If you are interested in history, archeology, and the history of the REAL early Americans then you will love this place. I found it fascinating!

This was a nice place to get out and stretch your legs. Well maintained paths for kids to play and get out some energy. I just really wish there had been more information on who the Mississippians were. And it would have been much more helpful to have markers at every mound so you knew where you were out there or a better detailed map at the front desk.

I was here over Memorial Day weekend, and really enjoyed looking through the museum and walking around out near the mounds. There seems to be less fanfare here than at Cahokia (another ancient Native American community, near Edwardsville, IL), but the sites are equally impressive. I especially liked that we pretty much had the entire place to ourselves.

Was nice to see the exhibits, kiddo loved looking at the different scenes they showed. He was a bit disappointed that some of the interactive parts were either not working, lights were not working, or just missing in general. He particularly liked the canoe- they encourage kids to sit in it while you ask guided questions- he thought that was cool. Its a bit small, but good for an hour or two to get the kids out of the car, having fun, and learning a little too. My only hmm... moment was when walking through the exhibit the lights kept dimming & brightening, which, when dim made it difficult to read.Kid also loved the summer house exhibit; like the canoe, it is encouraged to sit on the bench and compare/contrast it to todays bed, house, and furniture. Then outside we went to look at the reconstructed stockade, hut, and round house. The trails were not obvious to me, as this was the first time weve been there, but locals seemed to know exactly where the trails were. We didnt follow the whole trail since kiddo got bored after we saw the 3 outside structures. They have a small gift shop, and we happened to be there during an art exhibit where the proceeds go towards the sites needed repairs & monetary needs. We bought a small pumpkin painting- which surprised me because I assumed the prices would be high and the works of art would be large. But the painting was $15, which was reasonable and I felt pleased that the average Joe could buy a piece of artwork. It wasnt exclusively geared towards patronage who have $ to spend. So that was nice! The price of admission was a little high, I thought, but for a one-time visit, it was fine.Overall, Id recommend this if you have kids 4th grade or older. Mine was a little too young to really appreciate things (2nd grade), and didnt quite want to listen to all the information Id been reading aloud to him. This would be a good place for older teens/adults to a) learn some native/local history and b) take a walk outside along one of their 3 trails- 2k, 3k, & 5k respectively.

This sacred land is being used in such a disrespectful way. I decided not to go into the museum after seeing a commercial corn field & a disc golf course at the entry to the site. I wanted to cry. DO NOT spend money here until the areas First Nations peoples are given a larger role in the management of the land.

I recommend for history buffs. Very good museum. Visiting the mounds can be an issue if there has been rain or it is very hot. Both make for an unpleasant visit as there is a lot of hiking involved. This place is a marvel to my history buff brother. I am not nearly on his level and I can still appreciate this place. You can tell funding has been rocky and not very many people go here. It is definitely their loss. The front of the park is used for motorbikes, family picnics, and dog walking. The store has lots of books and Native American goods that I am used to seeing in New Mexico.

Theres a lot to do here--a great place to visit if youre in the neighboorhood. Theres disc golf, too. Heads-up, though. Im pretty sure theyre selling lost and found discs at retail price in the gift shop. The guy working told me he think theyre new. Theyre clearly used--this I find hilarious. If you leave your disc, its your fault. Just keep in mind, you might be able to buy it back at a premium later on!

Again, went here as part of the awesome Museum Wander. Had not been out here in many years. The interpretive center was amazing. Did not go out to the mound sites because it was very hot that day. But there was enough to do and see inside to make it worth the visit. Again spent way to much in the gift shop. Will go back sooner than later. The Museum Wander has been great to reawaken an interest in local attractions.

The museum was very informative and the staff was friendly. The descriptions were very well done and I learned a lot. The mounds and grounds are very easy to see and are all within a short walk on the trails.Unfortunately, many of the museum descriptions and information pieces were very difficult to read. The lighting was not very good. I found myself trying to move to the side a lot to get out of my own shadow to read. I spoke with a staff member and she acknowledged the problem. She explained that they were given a grant for LED lighting but they kept overheating and shutting off. She said they were searching for funding to redo all of the lighting and possibly even the 17 year old displays entirely. She said the 11 state historic sites need about a million more per year to maintain what they have. So, buy a souvenir and help em out!
