4000 acres of well managed land, teeming with wildlife ! Just beware that the deer do not behave well, as they like to jaywalk and will routinely ignore the designated deer crossing signs, especially during the rut.

This is a great facility. I go there every year to make sure my guns are sighted in before deer season. The workers are very knowledgeable and Saget is number one.

Great place for getting target practice and sighting in your guns. Really friendly people working there and willing to help you out. Good to see the dnr spending money on this place. They have skeet and archery ranges as well

Great hiking spot. We enjoyed a three mile hike. The trails were well cleared. The trails weren’t super clearly marked, but if was still pretty easy to follow. I would highly recommend this spot for a hike. There are a lot of options of paths to take. I imagine it’s even more beautiful in full summer bloom.

Nice range but too busy with the social distancing. Every other lane is closed. Had to use the 25ft range for my M&P 40 Shield. It was a bit difficult to see if I was hitting anything with my old eyes.

Quiet nature area, not much traffic. Trails can be hiked, a few could be mountain biked.

The staff is really helpful and very nice. For what it is (no pistol draw, no rapid fire, and only 6 bullets in clip) its a nice place to target shoot. Many slots to shoot, archery, shotgun, pistol, rifles.

Its a big public Forrest with the most textured land of anywhere of found in the area. There are a lot of great trails in the large center section, but they are spottier elsewhere.

Nice sanctuary near Lansing area. Fun trails for hiking or mountain biking and a few decent hills that are hard to come by in this part of Michigan. You wont find solitude here though as it is quite popular but is never crowded either, except for the limited parking which hopefully never increases in size since it is a perfect regulator. Parts are swampy so expect mosquitoes and black flies in season.

I am a Hunter and there are so many people walking unleashed dogs here. Wont be coming back to hunt here. Nothing like a man losing his dog every five seconds than repeatedly (20 minutes) blowing a whistle to try and get his dog to come when you are trying to hunt.

I was at the gun range there yesterday. A well set up place, very user friendly they have range officers and is a safe place to shot. They have a short handgun station and 25, 50, 100 yards target with nice shooting stations. Also for archers with archery course. They have a beautiful building for classes or whatever and bathrooms are located in it. A well maintained free to use be safe and smart place to visit.

Everybody I’ve ever asked about this wildlife preserve said that the views and benches were absolutely amazing and beautiful. I will admit, the views are definitely above sub par but they are frankly elementary because I could simply go to the art museum and see much better views. The benches were frankly very absurd and agrivating. I sat on one bench in the middle of the forest (very comfortable) but as soon as I got comfortable, the bench started grunting and moving. The moss on the bench had grown to were it was much like hair and it was interesting how they had never cleaned the bench. As the bench started to move I decided to try and settle it down by pulling out my trusty .50cal and putting it in its place. The bench gave me a weird cry and flopped on the ground. Quickly, many park rangers came over. On of them told me i had killed a bear. I wondered what they were talking about as they clearly got very confused by the bench. 2 out of five stars for stupid rangers (and silly benches).

Review №28

Excellent experience at Rose Lake. The range does have some interesting things to note however. They rotate target checks once every 15 minutes, and there is a six round maximum in the magazine + firearm. The range is huge, with a rifle ranges at 100 yard, 50 yard, 25 and a pistol range. There are also options for 3D archery, skeet shooting, shotguns, etc. The range is fully staffed with at least three NRA-certified Range officers from what I could see. All in all a great range experience, and I would come again.

The best run MDNR range/facility in Michigan hands down. The ranges are clean and facilities are top notch. Very large bench tops allow you to keep all your firearms, gear and ammo at arms length. The swiveling seats are phenomenal. Very comfortable and user friendly design of the bench rest set up.The range officers are extremely knowledgeable, professional and safety conscious and run the range the right way.If you want an enjoyable shooting experience whether it be shotgun (both paper target and skeet), rifle, handgun or bow (3D targets provided along with elevated platform) this is the only place to consider.

Dense, wooded, narrow trails, overgrown in sections with some downed trees over the trail. Seems very rarely used. Warning signs at trail heads about deer ticks so be sure to use bug spray. Some moderate hills, some birds singing, a few wild flowers, pond and stream views. Danger, do NOT walk these trails during hunting season!

Heavily trafficked area as far as hunting goes.As for the shooting range: Very nice facility! As its run by the DNR, you can expect rules to be enforced which makes for a safe place to spend time. They have 3 areas: shooting range, archery, and a trap area. I spend most of my time shooting trap. The officers even set up the machines for you.

Not helpful, almost rude. Twice this week my husband and I each drove 30+miles to pickup a State park pass and were told, Shes not here. I was told at 4:50 that they close at 4:30 when Id mentioned I would make it back the next day before 5:00 to try again. Website says-- 5:00.... people and cars were still there. My husbands experience was quite similar. I dont know who she is, but the person I spoke to wasnt helpful at all. 120 total miles and we still dont have our pass.

My favorite trail in the Lansing area. Its not well-known, and that is a bonus. The trails run through mixed-woods forest with a good mix of flat terrain and hills, and some wetlands thrown in for good measure. There are several miles of well-maintained trails to choose from. If youre a mountain biker, you will not be alone. The area gets buggy in the summertime, so bring your Off.
