There is a loop around the pond, but theres a little patch not paved and easy to miss if you go up the path instead of down the path that starts from the paved area. However, pretty views and the bridge is nice. Perfect for short walks with views, meditation walks, beginner runners, and for small/beginner bicyclists plenty of spots to sit and relax. A porch-swing on a terrace overlooking the field. There is an open field perfect for soccer, football or just tossing the ball to the doggies. Oh, and dogs are welcome on the paths! Bathroom on site.

Cool place and great small and simple trails for kids. I went during a summer weekend and it wasn’t crowded at all. Parking for about 20 cars. Has four picnic tables and two grills as well as a large open field in addition to all the trails. Bathrooms onsite.

LOVE this set of walking trails! Just moved here from Maine and this place is a hidden gem. Great paved trail and a bunch of other dirt paths off-shooting. Lots of super cool birds and lizards to check out. Plus dog friendly!!

Great park! There are paved trails and then off-road trails to choose from. It was nice to be able to bring the stroller on the paved, but a fun jog on the off-road parts. Nice little picnic area, bathrooms and a wide open field to let the kids run around.

Nice spot for a quick hike thats a bit of a hidden gem. Theres a wide, paved path for part of the trail and many signs to learn about the environment along the way. I would have liked a bit more wayfinding off the pet trail, but its certainly a neat spot to take my dog for a walk in a new area.

Great little park with nice open field and trails (paved and dirt) all over. I love the variety of birds. There is a covered eating area and a gorgeous butterfly garden. It is not very busy either. My favorite place for walking the dogs.

The park not only has a great picnic area and greenway, it also has a BEAUTIFUL nature trail with raised boardwalks. The greenway can get flooded if its been raining heavily but the nature trail is almost always clear.

Really glad this place exists. We went to see the beavers and thier handiwork. Kids loved it. On a sad note, we ended up lugging out a couple bagfuls of trash we collected from the creek and I dont believe we scratched the surface of the total amount that washes in from the city.

Sandy Creek Trail is a hidden gem just right off of Pickett Road. its a little bit of nature that you wouldnt expect to find in Durham. there are nature trails and paved trails that are great for family walks. the paved trail follows a sweet little Creek thats great for dipping your toes in on a hot summer day. this park has a lot of great signage/information about wildlife.

This is one of those places that makes Durham great. Sandy Creek Park is a pleasant pocket park that nevertheless features a butterfly garden, couple of miles of trail (both paved for bicycling and through the woods), a lake with beaver, ducks, heron, and otters (!), and of course Sandy Creek. All this within the city limits of Durham! When youre walking on the woods trail, you could imagine yourself far from civilization, considering the variety of tree and animal species. The Japanese have a term that translates to forest bathing: being in nature among trees, that is shown to have health benefits. This park is definitely a place to forest bathe! Bird watchers, joggers, families with young kids, photographers, all have a wonderful resource in Sandy Creek Park!

Best park in Durham. Im not sure what the reviewer wanted, who said there was nothing here. Its an environmental park, not a theme park or a playground. If you enjoy a huge variety of wildlife, natural beauty, a completely peaceful place to walk, and caring for your community, then Sandy Creek is perfect. If you need a gimmick, or someone else to plan all your fun for you, look elsewhere.

Great except the beavers ruining everything. Water and Sewer never maintains the drains, causing the trail to flood over every rain. The beavers need to be relocated.

Fantastic hidden gem in Durham. An early morning hike yielded ducks at their nest, a fishing heron, three river otters playing in the pond and kingfishers diving from their perches. Down along the meadow there was a cacophony of tree frogs and in the forest trout lilies are just starting to pop out.

This is a medium-sized park and trail that follows Sandy Creek. There is a pond that often hosts ducks, geese, turtles and other wildlife. There is a blind next to the pond for observation. Many educational plaques are scattered along the trails. The main entrance has parking, picnic and recreation facilities (bocce ball anyone?) Many Ingress portals and Pokemon GO stops too - level up or farm while you walk.
