If you love Trains, and learning about local History, The Union Depot is a must stop. Plan on spending a couple of hours looking @ all the trains, and exhibits though to really enjoy the whole experience.

What a beautiful old building! There were many well put together exhibits. It was easy to find and not overly busy. Admission was free but that might be due to covid. This building houses the train museum which was excellent. Parking does cost but was cheap.

Second time weve been there and we loved it! Enough exhibits and trains and cool stuff to look at and learn for hours and hours. The scale models are amazing are well as the 18th and 19th century real life trains, several of which you could look into or go inside. One of my personal favorites is the forgotten trains outside of the building. Its kind of a train graveyard but it doesnt seem to be regulated so my kid and I climb all over them and have a ball. There are re-creations of old timey shops which were setup beautifully with great attention to detail. Very immersing and historically accurate. A 5 experience. Highly recommended

My family and I had an amazing time at the Historic Union Depot in Duluth, Mn. We have wanted to go in the past and we finally were able to visit. Thomas the Train happened to be there that weekend so there was several additional activities for the children to partake in. The facility gives you a good feel for what it was like in the past and the exhibits were well put together. I would definitely recommend stopping in and going for a train ride!Eyes of an Engineer Review

We took the 40-50 minute train. Nothing special not scenic. The only good thing was exploring to ride in a restored train. Thats all. It travels within and the city and back to the station within an hour. Doesnt even speedup enough to enjoy a bit.If you are going for the scenic ride as mentioned on their website, this is not the place. Plus, $18 for the whole trip wasnt worth it. Definitely not the place where I would spend an hour on a short stay or a trip in Duluth, given that there are a lot more interesting stuff to do around the city like Swimming in the secret pool, hiking and water activities like kayaking. The staff was friendly and helpful though. So, I can say that the customer service was great.

Great place for kids. They have a gift shop, concession stand, bathrooms and lots of little areas for kiddos to enjoy like toy train tracks, a scavenger hunt, a little farm to do chores on and plenty of opportunity to scramble around and investigate the trains. The workers are all so sweet and if almost completely if not entirely volunteer. So they love this and love enjoying it with others and it shows. The train ride was great. Our kiddos loved it. It was great to sneak some education into our summer fun here. I even learned some things!

We loved the museum. It was fun to see so many of the items my family had when I was a little girl. Some of the rail cars are closed off, which was very disappointing. The cars are expertly equipped with original items. Such a treasure! We saw where rail cars are in various stages of renovation and would like to come back when those exhibits are completed. The rail ride was fun too. It made my husband and I think about planning a cross-country rail trip. The art gallery sucked. It wasnt family friendly and no warning was provided.

Everyone has their “thing..” and trains are not personally MY thing, but they are definitely my 2 year old nephew’s; his LOVE for the depot made it my thing. There are trains you can climb on and explore, other interesting artifacts AND.... military personnel and their families get in for freee = four stars.

We attended a Day Out With Thomas with our two boys. The Railroad Museum was pretty fun, but everything was so extremely expensive if it wasnt included in your ticket. A Day Out With Thomas was fun, but was not worth the price of the tickets as the train rides behind Thomas and Percy are quite short. The gift shop with toys and novelties for the kids was quite expensive once and get the same items on Amazon for a few dollars less. Staff was crabby and the museum itself its quite hot because it is not air condition however that is to be expected due to the age of the museum. We needed water and ice cream treats, a popsicle, a plain popsicle, was $2 water was the same price! We probably will not attend a Day Out With Thomas again due to the exorbitant prices and the monotony of it being the same each year as this was not our first visit.

The museum for the trains was pretty good even better when youre a nerd for old mechanical things. Union Depot museum is so awesome because so many people that care about railroad history spent painstaking hours to restore and refurbish to like new condition the engines, trains cars, and locomotives on display in the museum for all to enjoy. All of the displays and pictures really tell the great story of the history of not only the day to day operations of the railroad but the rich history of Duluth and the regon.
