The train ride that lasted over an hour. I think the train may have been built in the 50s. The train ride was not quite as exciting as i anticipated. They played a recording through the speakers of someone talking instead of an actual conductor or host speaking to us directly. I would have liked to hear the history of the train in a more engaging way. The scenery was as expected if youre familiar with Duluth but no surprises. The employees were very friendly. The train itself was well kept and restored. Good experience overall

Its a pretty fun short ride. My son loved it and now he thinks every train he sees is his train haha. Fair warning the snacks on the train. I also learned most of the workers are volunteers so thats pretty cool. After getting out of the train we went into the depot and got to see some pretty interesting stuff, well worth a check out.

This was the third part of our must see Duluth package, which I would recommend doing. The train ride was wonderful. Got to see alot of the lakefront, some historical sites, and a lot of Duluth. The staff is vary knowledgeable and helpful ( especially Will, Jerry, and conducted jack. Who assisted us with wheelchair boarding). All and all a great ride

Super fun place to visit particularly if you have kids. All the exhibitions are interesting, but the top is the old trains exhibition on the lower level. All kind of steam powered locomotives, train wagons, and machines for railroad maintenance. In the same areas you can find recreation of old shops with sounds of old train stations. highly recommend!

Took the kids and everyone loved it. Be sure to make time to explore the museum before or after your train ride. Excellent museum! What a treasure and treat. The ride on the train seemed short and if we go back we will check out one of the longer trips. The 1 hour ride (about 22 min each way with a 10-15 min turn around) doesnt take you very far out of Deluth.

Great information, but half the time the train was too loud to hear it. Also the way back is not nearly as entertaining. Bring snacks because the concession stand is just junk food. If your going for the museum you’ll be satisfied because it is definitely interesting to see inside the different train cards. Overall a pretty average experience.

We had a wonderful time here. The museum was very interesting and we learned a lot of facts about the railroad history. We also enjoyed a ride on the train. We decided to upgrade to the first class train so we could sit in the upper viewing deck. There was plenty of beautiful scenery and we can across deer and other wildlife. We will definitely be going back for other train rides again. Definitely a great family adventure.

We took the short ride after finding out that they aren’t doing the long one at this time. My wife is in a wheelchair so we were apprehensive about how that would work, but they have a lifting device that loaded us right into the baggage/snack car. We had this area to ourselves and had open doors on both sides for the full experience. Ride and service were great-5 stars. Car was quite noisy because of generator running, could barely hear the vintage diesel pulling the train. I agree with some other posters that trees between track and lake really detract from the scenery-it would be spectacular if view towards lake was clear. Museum was very interesting but we didn’t have much time before it closed. It is difficult for wheelchair use. Hope to come back and have more time available.

My companion and I experienced the train ride in first class. CJ was our server, and she did a great job making it fun and entertaining. The train ride is beautiful, and staff took action to protect our health (re: wearing masks, encouraging social distancing, keeping the car clean, etc.). To make it even better, the AC could be more powerful, due to feeling very hot under the sun ( VIP area has glass ceilings which let in more sunlight). All in all, it was a fun experience, and were looking forward to next time!

We decided to buy the tickets online which was an good idea so we didnt have to wait in a line day of that was long. We arrived 30 minutes early which was a good idea because people are already lining up. We were there early enough to be able to sit together. There was a few families that were not able to sit together because they were later than us.The ride was a little long especially since there was a lot of time spent waiting for the train to switch tracks. We stopped two different times for a couple minutes each. Also there is a few things to look out and see but most of it is Lake Superior and trees. Luckily theres a snack cart that serves candy chips pop water and beer! The nut beer was delicious. I was hoping it was a craft beer from Duluth however but it wasnt it was from Wisconsin. The seats were comfortable but not much legroom in coach. I am glad I did not upgrade to the more expensive first class seats due to a lot of people complaining about spending so much more money and wasnt worth it.The Train Museum was okay. Im not really interested in trains but I like seeing history. The Veterans display was really cool thou. When on this train just sit back and enjoy the view. Here is some pictures that I got from the Train and the museum.

We went to the Rail Road Museum in Duluth. Very rich in history. If youre interested in trains this is for you. Plenty of variety. Something for everyone. We were running a miniature train set up with the cutest little kid. Even his dad got in on the fun. Plan on spending some time there. Old photos and little snippet of film taken of some of the trains on display. We were there some three hours. You wont be sorry you stopped by the Depot in Duluth.

Got to depot at 11:00 am on a Monday to purchase tickets for the 3pm ride, tenant never asked names or anything. We purchased 10 tickets and was told to be back at 2:45 pm. When we returned at 2:40 pm we got in the line for the train and waited until 3:30 before the train was ready. Standing on blacktop in upper 80s temps with no breeze with 2 very small kids. When boarding the train they called out names of familys which we were never asked. Long story short we were one of the last groups on train which led to a non a/c car. Worst experience ever. Was very rough with small children. Will not recommend this place to anyone!!!!

This was loved by our kids (ages 3, 6 & 9). The staff on board of the train was so friendly and inviting. They allow you to move around and go to all of the cars (VIP has limited access). There is a snack car up front, 2 cars that appear to be the same style, an older car that is over 100 years old and an outdoor car (it has seats and rails). They have working toilets on the train and the kids (boys) were excited about going to the bathroom on a moving train.

We rode the pizza train May 2019. Nice evening activity to do in Duluth. The pizza was lukewarm but okay. It was fun to ride the train and see the sites. The train slows down at good picture taking spots. The was live music and concessions with chips, pop, and adult beverages. The train cars are dated, but you are too busy enjoying the views to be concerned with that. The ride is 2.5 hours long.

Took an nice afternoon ride with my son in his electric wheelchair. Bought tickets online and when we picked them up the person at the ticket counter didnt know what we needed to do about getting the wheelchair on the train. We went out to the train and asked one of the workers at the gates and he helped us out. They brought a manual lift over and lifted myself and him up into the concessions car. You can see it in the photo by the train. Be aware that there are 4 large doors on this car that stay open. We were happy we brought our jackets. We didnt go through the museum so cant comment on it. After the ride they brought the lift back and let us down. All the workers on the train were very helpful and cordial. Thanks for the great ride!

Visiting the area it looked like it would be fun to experience to see the lake from the train. If you have children and are trying to kill time and dont care then please dont mind my review but if you were looking forward to a nice train ride and to see beautiful lake Superior, prepare to be disappointed. Take the LONG ONE not the short one. You do more waiting on the train then moving; see more houses, streets, concrete, pedestrians and and trees then you do the lake. And the window was fogged up the whole time. IMO it should be a $9 ride. For the short distance. Its good to hear the history but I thought you were paying for scenic views of one of the great lakes and a historic train ride experience. Save your money & time and drive up to go see the light house then waste your time on here. Your better off driving up along the road or taking the scenic byway then taking the train. If the Winslow, Arizona train to the Grand Canyon was this disappointing it would be out of business!

My husband, two friends and I got first class tickets with the Wounded Warrior Project. It was a lot of fun and the food was fantastic. I had the salmon and my husband had the prime rib. They also offered a vegetarian lasagna. Because so many people signed up after we were done eating 1 1/2 hours later we did a switch (WWP were the only ones on the train.) We got to enjoy other compartments on the train. They told us the section we were sitting in was the pizza section for those who dont order first class. All in all it was a great experience and I got some amazing photos. I recommend this ride for the food, history lesson, scenery and an enjoyable time?

I really had a good experience while visiting the Scenic Rail Road. We did the Zephyr ride so about 45 min. Long. The staff were kind and very accommodating. We had first class tickets( next time I’m going to try coach) witch were not bad love the glass top train car, however be prepared for a tight squeeze. Especially if people all want to sit up there. They offer a lot of nice seats in the lower level ( witch is really nice) but you can’t see as much from the bottom as you can the top. The lady in the train car waiting on us was so nice and friendly I’d go first class again ( after coach) to see her. This is a must do.

We took the scenic train ride and paid the extra for the first class experience. We were pleasantly surprised when CJ - our very funny and friendly private hostess came into the Sunroom style upper car and asked us for our drink order! I guess I missed that in the explanation of what was included with our $38 ticket, but it turns out 2 beverages and a nice cheese, sausage, cracker snack box are! Beverages included both non and alcoholic choices (I enjoyed a local brewerys IPA by Bent Paddle). CJ made the ride so much fun with her wit and extra effort to serve our car of about 20 people, well. The speakers provide narration about Duluths history as well as interesting information about Lake Superior. Highly recommend the first class ticket!
