Makes me wish I could have seen the unspoiled Great Central Valley.

Went in late April the goldfields were blooming. Just a little dowingia. One of the docents dip netted out a larval California tiger salamander, and vernal pool tadpole shrimp. Both are federally-endangered and you will probably never see them again in your lifetime. Kinda slow start, could have seen all the sights in 20 minutes. Well worth the visit!

It is VERY windy/cold! Bring something to protect your ears and dress your kiddos warmly! I wish Id come better prepared for our cub scout hike, but it was a GREAT experience otherwise. Such incredible creatures and native plants I never knew even existed are here. The Docents are very knowledgeable. Please dont let your kids trample and beat the plants as I saw some were doing in our group!!!!

Nicer in the winter. Too dry in Summer.

Nice to visit in spring. Lots of grass and a vernal lake due to the clayey undersoil preventing drainage. A short self-guided walk with posts with numbers. Take a brochure from the box at the sign at the carpark and read about something interesting at each numbered post. Windy due to no tall vegetation - dress appropriately.

Spectacular location for viewing vernal pool wildflowers from about mid-March through April. Tours provided by knowledgeable docents on Saturdays and Sundays, but a self guided path also available at other times.

The pools were very full, many wildflowers. This is a short hike in a field under huge power transmission lines. We saw many birds, a small frog, a snake which hid in its hole before we could identify it. Unless you stop and take pictures of every little flower this hike will only last about 30 minutes.

This university of California nature preserve is unique because it contains vernal pools. The vernal pools contain shrimp and plants that arent found elsewhere. The pools dry out in the summer and yet the shrimp survive until the next rain even during the four year drought.

Excellent docent-led tour, beautiful area. A glimpse into what California looked like before the European settlers arrived.

Disappointed with high voltage power lines - cannot hike under them due to medical implant. There is a portapotty at the picnic area. Trash on ground (I picked it up). No dogs allowed on hiking trail and almost all solano land trust properties - contra costa/john muir land trust much more dog on leash friendly . Gravel road last little bit before trail head.
