Saturday night viewings & Tues/Thurs. public nights. If you are one that cares about the universe, space, astronomy, physics, or life in general, this is a great place to go. Whether visiting to view through a telescope, view the stars in a dimly lit area of the city, or just experience a peaceful ambiance, this is a must visit. The experience lends itself to all. People are friendly, observations are stunning, the experience is thought provoking. Thank you to Denver Astro Society for this! Much appreciation!

The iced latte was nice but a bit watery. The ambiance was good, the internet was fast, but also it was hard to find chargers and the washroom was a bit dirty. Overall really nice atmosphere to study, the festive lights and music helped brighten the mood.

Its beautiful architecture to see during the day but the public nights are amazing. Great mini lectures, beautiful original building and of course the stunning telescope, entirely original. Its only a few dollars to go to a public night on a Tuesday or Thursdayand the topics vary by speaker.

I definitely recommend trying out the public nights, which have been going on since 1894! The night starts out with a volunteer doing a presentation on a topic (it varies, depending who does it that night)- Theyre so passionate about it that I just had the best time. Then you have a tour of the observatory and its clocks, which is fascinating because its so old. Then, if the weather is clear, youll be able to look through the telescope at whatevers clearest at that time. The first time I went, we saw one of the star clusters in Orions belt. If youre not able to look out of the telescope due to weather, youre able to come back to any public night. And, really, its $4 per person to do something so different and informative. Give it a try!

Attended the Tue/Thurs public night at the Observatory. The tickets are very inexpensive and the event caters to all ages. Attendees ranged from families with young school aged children through older adults. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and really helped convey the Observatorys unique history and importance as well as delivery the overpowering awe of the stars and astronomy through both a short lecture/talk and, weather permitting, getting to look through the Observatorys telescope!Recommend bringing a good coat if visiting in winter as the telescope is in a nighttime indoor/outdoor space. If you have trouble with stairs or ladders remember to make the staff aware. Weather permitting they can hopefully pick an object to look at that does not require climbing up to the telescope to view.

What a wonderful way to observe the heavens. We took our daughter for her birthday and got a very clear view of Jupiter and its four largest moons. Staff was kind, patient, and knowledge. The cost was extremely affordable for the whole family. It was a diverse crowd wich was really nice, people on dates, older couples, singles, and people with kids.

If you are in to astronomy and telescopes this is a must visit. It is only open a few select days per month but well worth it. Very educational and the history involved is interesting!

I visited Denver for the first time and made a reservation for their public viewing night and it was so amazing! The staff was super friendly and very informative. The telescope was so cool to watch in action and we even got to see a star cluster. I will never forget that night and it will be my top 5 favorite memories. I would love to go again!

It was nice chatting with the volunteers. Denver needs to control its light pollution! Messier 3 should have had more contrast on a clear night. Looked like a twilight view thru the eyepiece. Jupiter and Saturn should be excellent views.

This place is the shiznit for astronomy in the Denver Metro area. Both the observatory itself and the TWENTY-INCH Clark refractor inside are 125 years old. The scope works like a champ, even if it is an antique. Cheapest date in the universe at just TWO BUCKS.

We went and checked out the family night a few weeks ago and it was really fun. People set up their personal telescopes on the lawn in front so, in addition to checking out the big telescope, you can see a lot of other stuff as well. A nice family activity.

I absolutely loved visiting this observatory because everyone was friendly and explained what I was seeing in the sky. I genuinely felt welcomed even though I am from the west coast and dropped by for only an hour before going back to my travel companions. I was lucky to have been in the area during their open house.

I saw close-ups of Venus and I also saw the US space shuttle pass by in the night sky. My boyfriend and I went here for a date and it was definitely a great idea, they have a balcony several different binoculars that you can look into the night sky on your own, you have to make your reservations a couple months in advance, however, but I definitely think its worth it.

This made for quite the romantic cap to our date night! We went to a Public Night, hosted by several enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers from the Denver Astronomical Society (cost $4 per person). Walking through the park for the 8:30pm start time at dusk was very atmospheric, with bats circling overhead while approaching the lit up glow of the observatory and its dome. On entering the 100+ year old building, you get that fabulous, old, wooden smell. The volunteers gave an interesting talk, followed by us climbing the stairs into the dome, to be confronted by the enormous telescope (12th largest in the world when it was built and still one of the largest refracting telescopes). You can climb a narrow, almost ladderlike staircase up a mobile platform contraption which leads to the eyepiece of the telescope. Its a thrill to watch the telescope be rotated around the dome, and to see the huge slit in the ceiling it looks out of. Theres also a balcony from which you can see the night sky to the south and they had high powered loaner binoculars on hand to use there as well.

We signed up for this from out of state, not knowing what it was. We thought it would be some star viewing basics. Turned out to be a very strange class-room style speech, and then a trip up to the telescope. We had bad luck and total cloud cover, so we basically sat through a class about Star Trek and star units... with no payoff
