The oldest and grandest theater in the state with an amazing sound system. They were awarded many times for the nostalgic atmosphere, sound and video quality. The have free showing from time to time. Some times it Holliday generated. The Rocky horror picture show is the best in the country. You will never see it preformed like this is . Ever. The popcorn is the best. And the employees are very nice. The owner is chip. Super cool guy and the sound guy is the smartest iv ever met. All around great place.

This was our first time at the Avon and it was great! The popcorn was amazing, the theater was clean, tiny and didnt smell like dirty sweaty butt (if ya know what I mean). The staff were all friendly and welcoming! We will be going back for sure.

Just finished watching The Grinch!! The theater has an old time feel, comfy seats, great popcorn(made with real butter) and was super clean!! The kids loved it as well!! I couldn’t have asked for a better experience!! We will most definitely visit again!!

Best movie theater in town! Beautiful 102 year old theater plus two newer screens next door. Great snacks and drinks. This is family owned that has all the new and recent films. Owner Skip Huston personally introduces the films and comments on the previews.Thanks, Skip. Keep up the good work!!!

The theater is clean and while the lobby is very small, the theater itself is very big. The staff there are very nice. The food is also very good, I ate half the popcorn even before the movie started! This is the best theater in town. 5/5 stars.

At first, an old fashioned movie theater sounds like the last choice to go watch some new Hollywood blockbuster. However, the charm of this place seems to make it a regular stop. The popcorn is great, the staff is awesome, and in the end that digital projector BS doesnt matter as much as the rest. Go here, support local business, and make sure to chat with Skip, itll be worth going downtown, trust me.

The Avon theater is a staple of Decatur. Its a great family owned and run business. The have fun events for big movies. The popcorn is so good I often come in just for a bucket to take home. This is always where I go for big releases. Support local business!

They had five dollar Tuesdays even on Christmas and New Years day. The other theatres did not. They get in good movies, but there are no captioning devices available.

High tech & very well kept. Bacon popcorn is amazing! Main theater is classically restored, the other two screens are modern stereo and 3D. Best deal in town, if they have the movie you want to see.

They still use REAL Butter on popcorn!!! Rather inexpensive for date night

The viewing area isnt as good as AMC its really small and they arent well lit at all, When me and my family went to see The Lion King (2019) we had to squint and dodge just to get around and we just ended up sitting in the very front because there was stairs that led to the back rows, and there was a female that kept getting up and running in and out of the theater. Overall it wasnt a very good veiwing experience for me. But the staff is very friendly and interactive so thats a pro.

There are good reasons why this independent, family owned historic theatre gets 5 stars. They consistently feature top movies, friendly owner and staff who get to know regulars by name and face, lowest ticket prices around, lowest refreshment prices and gourmet popcorn flavors. You can bring your family here for a lot less money than youll spend at the competition. If I could give it ten stars, I would. A true movie goer will love it!

I really enjoy Bora hes a character last time we were at the Avon I just stopped for their award-winning popcorn yum yum and I must say the young lady behind the counter was very polite and a lot of fun thank you.

Labor of love hometown, historic theatre. I am told there is a modern component next door. Great concessions with good hotdogs. My first time here since moving out of city 20 years ago. Please consider the supporting this vintage experience.

I love this theater!! It offers a very homey feel in the older theater and the seating and acoustics are awesome at the 2 (twins) newer screens. Definately purchase the popcorn you wont be sorry. Skip (the owner) and the rest of the crew are always so friendly.

I visited my hometown last weekend and saw Darkest Hour. What a wonderful experience. It started off with the owner in the ticket office giving an short imitation of Winston Churchill. Then just before the movie started, he came into the theater and offered some commentary about the film making it a truly unique, enjoyable, and memorible time. If youre in Decatur make sure to visit the Avon Theater. Oh, and theyre famous for their bacon popcorn made with real bacon.

Great local theatre. Not owned by amc or regal. They only have 3 screening rooms so only have 4 to six movies out at a time for up to two weeks at least. Longer if its a popular movie. Tickets are first come first served but you can pre-order tickets for movies that premier. Nice employees.

Breathtaking. Been there many times and the last was to see Avengers INFINITY. Great movie. Wish they would open up the balcony again though. Go about once a month

Still need to spread a section of the seats for guys over 6 ft tall so I dont leave with a back ache.

Intimate theater with a personable staff. Its the perfect place to see cult classics like Rocky Horror Picture Show or modern hits like Dunkirk. Best movie theater popcorn and concessions in town! Theres even a small sitting area in the Avon Twins to eat a pre-movie meal.

We don’t come here as often since Skip stopped showing the more “artistic “ movies. Still enjoy coming when the show is right. Service is top notch.

Want to see a Woody Allen movie in Decatur? Good luck finding it in any theater except the Avon. Owner Skip Huston bringssmall movies here while the multiplexes have all those ridiculous action movies. Not to worry, youll see big budget films at the Avon, too, but it truly is often the only place that brings us the less mainstream films. Delicious popcorn, reasonable prices and an enormous old theater that reeks of nostalgia are 3 more reasons to go. There are two modern theaters in the complex, too, and all 3 have great sound systems. I just avoid the local movie theaters unless its the Avon!

The best quality movies movies in decatur. Way better than AMC. And those girls that work there are soooooo nice friendly. And skip is awesome! And they offer free movies from time to time and premiere movies are $5!!!

Great little locally owned theatre. Only shows a few movies at a time but its always the most popular stuff. Their three cheese popcorn is to die for. They staff is great and their gift cards are a huge deal for any moviegoer.

The best movie theater in central Illinois. They have $5 premieres, free halloween movies, new releases at the best rates youll find, and no extra charge for 3D showings. The staff is knowledgable, and absolutely wonderful. And the drinks and snacks are cheaper than youll find anywhere else in the area. Its the best theater for any cinema lover, and cheap enough for a family on a budget. If youre not watching movies at The Avon, what are you even doing with your life?

Historic and modern depending on which theater. Newer theater significantly more comfortable. Older screen room keeps me twitching for a more comfortable position within 20 minutes. Excellent concession with a flare from local distributors.
