The Meadows Museum is such a stunning, elegant and perfectly located event space as well as art museum! My husband and I had our wedding reception at Meadows April 2019 and it blew us away!! The Great Jones Hall and the Founders Room are connected by a gorgeous marble walk-way. Our guests were enchanted by the world class art work and gold chandeliers in Jones Hall where we had cocktail tables, bar, a main cake and dessert table, and our jazz band! Our 200 guests were able to mingle in Jones Hall and move over to the Founders Room to sit and enjoy the time with family and friends. After the wedding SO many of our guests kept telling us they were not sure if they were at our wedding or cast in a movie as they entered Meadows for the reception. The staff at Meadows is beyond capable and helpful. They made sure we were taken care of from begging to end, no worries only joy. I am thrilled to be able to say we spent our first few hours as a married couple celebrating in such a glorious venue!Thank you Meadows!

I didnt know about this museum until my friend told me about it. I enjoyed my visit Thursday night. It was free and so was the underground parking. There was one Picasso art upstairs and some outdoor sculptures. There was a Rodin sculpture inside also. There was a friendly cat that had white and gray stripes in the courtyard that will walk up to you, wanting to be petted.

Though characteristically religious as would be expected, a lot of existentialism is the more predominant theme, along with some very large paintings that you have likely seen before, including massive paneled artwork which is less common. Some of the rooms were less impressive, and the vast majority of the bottom half of the building is intended as conference rooms , and even ones that werent, the walls were bare or blocked off. At the SMU campus, on weekends you are allowed to park on the side of the museum during the day without any special parking requirements (however I did spot a vehicle that had a citation, and perhaps it was because they had left it parked there overnight?) Overall its some excellent artwork that demonstrates some excellent representations of the subject matter, and the location is very quiet, so it is probably worthwhile to those hoping to avoid more crowded places such as other museums around Dallas (which are also usually free.)

I visited Meadows Museum at SMU for the first time last month. I was pleasantly surprised at not only how much I enjoyed the museum but also the beauty of the campus. Plan ahead and visit when they also have free lectures or musical entertainment. They stay open late on Thursdays and also plan time to walk around and enjoy the beautiful campus and the sculptures throughout.

A surprise gem located on the SMU campus. First off, I knew about the Bush library, but had no idea this museum existed....of course you have some classics, but the artists featured here are pretty incredible. I was surprised to see artwork that I had only seen in art history books actually adorning the walls here in this beautiful museum.

Small, unique museum. Spanish art. Respectable collection of minor works, mostly paintings. Special exhibits are hit and miss. Guards are helpful rather than forbidding. Sculpture on the veranda. On a beautiful campus. Very easy to park in the garage, plenty of signage, short walk to door from the garage elevator.

This art museum is definitely a hidden gem in Dallas! I really enjoyed my visit. It was also nice that they give student discounts with your student ID. The art is beautiful and there are so many pieces that you could spend hours in front of. I really enjoyed the vast amount of religious art and Spanish art. Easy parking was a plus too. Definitely visit this museum. It’s a must!

We were both surprised at multiple aspects of our visit: 1) the number of pieces 2) the number of movements and chronological eras represented. 3) the beauty of the building itself 4) How EXTREMELY FRIENDLY AND KNOWLEDGEABLE the staff was. This includes the security guards that helped us find our way to the tour and to the elevator and the cleaning staff that acknowledged us on the the way out. Above all else we were blown away by how intelligent and thorough our docent Kathrine was. A must visit.

We saw art by Salvador Dali here. The selection was fantastic. You could tell the artwork had been displayed with care. The rooms flowed together nicely. This was an incredible display and we enjoyed it immensely. Prices were very affordable. Parking was a little hard to come by, but you kind of expect that at a college campus.

The Meadows is a great place to go to see art from artists all over the globe, but mostly Spanish as thats the majority of the collection. Its very convenient on the SMU campus, and free for students which is great for something to do on a budget. I love coming and seeing the new collections on display whenever possible, and they have great small cultural events all the time for students and the general public alike. Also its usually not too crowded, so you can take your time looking at the pieces without feeling cramped!

An impressive collection of primarily Spanish Art (from the original Algur H. Meadows bequest) with other excellent additions and periodic special Exhibitions. As a 1981 graduate of SMU, I had walked through the much smaller Meadows Museum when it was located within the Fine Arts building located on the East side of Bishop Blvd. The new building (completed in 2001) located on the West side of Bishop Blvd., is a beautiful facility in which to display the Museum’s remarkable art collection.

The museum is not large, so dont expect a giant display but it definitely has an interesting collection and the staff do not hound you like many other museums these days. The only improvement I could suggest would be to hang some of the paintings a little lower or otherwise deflect the ceiling lights as, for shorter people like me, the glare from the lights reflects strongly off the paintings to the point where you have to stand over 10ft away and thus cant fully appreciate the detail in some of the pieces.
