Lovely Fall walk. Moderate intensity, wear stable footwear, as the path can be slick with leaves or mud. If you dont like dogs, likely not a great choice for you, as there were several with their owners, none leashed. They were VERY well behaved, and not a problem for me, but if you or a dog with you were not prepared, it could be uncomfortable.

Nice park with plenty of shade and well defined trails. You really have to know where youre going, though, because there are so many trail options. We were with friends so we didnt get lost, but it would have been easy to.

Easy hike to the top of a ridge that allows for great views of the valley. My school age children were able to easily keep up, and there was a good mix of shade and sun.

Chip Ross is one of my all time favorite spots in Corvallis. Amazing view to the town and the valley, some easy/medium trails with benches to rest, and a connection to the university forest. A prefect destination to get away from your busy life and watch the sun set over the coastal mountains.

This is a beautiful hike. The gravel parking lot at the trail head is pretty rough and the trail itself is too. This is not a hike that is easily accessible to strollers or anyone who has trouble with uneven and steep ground. Choose the shorter or longer loop. Beautiful trees along the way and a lovely view at the top. Expect to meet other hikers, dogs, bikers, and horses on this path.

This trail has it all...open vistas, rolling hills, optional routes, mini waterfalls, moss dripped trees, ferns galore, hiking and mountain biking, and not kidding....someone was playing bagpipes under a rainbow. I half expected fairys to pop out. The parking lot appears flat but will rock you hard so come in at 2 mph. The summit to Dimple Hill is farther that I expected. In fact, I havent made it upon 2 attempts but the cold rain caught me. I truly love this place

Used to be our favorite hike, but after the invasive species removal, its like a different place. It almost feels like a fire swept through, leaving barren hillside compared to before. With all the extra plants gone, there is nothing to hold the water which is causing huge mud areas and will most likely speed up erosion. But definitely a nice view at the top.

It is really really muddy. Currently (Feb 2017) you cannot do the whole loop, part of the trails are closed (It is also a small place). They are burning trees too (there is a slight smell of burn in the air). There is a really nice view at the top.

Review №63

This is a great park if youre looking for a quick hike and dont know how fast youll be hiking. With great views of Corvallis and the hills of the southern Willamette Valley, youre sure to linger at the top, and the wooded trails make you feel like your out in the middle of nature most of time, even though you are still very close to town. With four paths up to the top, you can choose a longer or shorter way back down to the entrance you came in at, making it easy to stay at the top for however long you want. Its a great place to look at the city lights at night and watch lightening storms! Theres also a trail into the southern MacDonald-Dunn forest, so if you have lots of time and feel like exploring, you can venture deeper into the woods. The only down side to the park is if you like feeling far away from civilization, there are several times in the tail when you see nearby houses or the church to the southeast. The tail is small enough that you are likely to run into others along the way, can be a positive or negative depending on your day. Like most trails in Corvallis, the main loop of this park gets pretty muddy when it rains hard, but with a couple of weeks of warm weather, the muddy spots are easy to avoid. Bring a blanket and lay in the field at the top!

Do not go here when it is muddy. The initial ascend to the hiking loop winded me a little, which I adored and I will be back for more. A good mid week prep walk/hike.Very dog friendly to well behaved four leggers. Sweeping views of Corvallis with Reeser Stadium way off to the south and the mountains of Eastern Oregon (the Bachelor and the Sisters) to the due east.

Review №81

Any descriptions you may read about it being lush and forested are no longer applicable. For some very stupid reason, the parks department decided to restore the park as Oak Savannah, completely changing the character of the park, and, in my opinion, ruining what was one of Corvallisites favorite parks. There is no shade on the hike up anymore. There is nothing but oak trees and grass. It is very open, very hot, and VERY boring! We had the great view at the top before, but now getting to it is not at all enjoyable. Outside of the waste of cutting down all the evergreen and deciduous trees and pretty much anything other than the oaks, this is not good for the carbon exchange, nor for diversity of species, not just of trees and plants, but of animals and birds; nor is it what I think the public would have wanted. I will probably never hike there again because it looks so little like what it did before.
