This was a great gem. It was my husband, his mom (70) and me. It was an easy walking path around the different areas. Keeping mind that the time of year impacts the vegetation, we were pleasantly surprised at the foliage and flowers still on display. We enjoyed feeding pistachios to the birds around the area. We only explored part of it and still feel it was worth the admission price.

This place is much bigger than I thought it was. There are birds that kids can feed, just buy some treats for the birds in the gift shop. All the staff is very friendly. There is a lot of open area without shade, so I would try to go earlier in the mornings. There are some trails in the back that provide a good amount of shade. Unfortunately they kids play area is closed. There are plenty of plants to see as well. The whole place is upkept really well, definently coming back.

Some of the different areas are a little run-down and workers are constantly improving them for upkeep, but overall the center is very expansive for the entrance price. They are super friendly and were walking around with some of the rescue Macaws they own to give more info on exhibits and check on the general state of the exhibits. Will definitely go back here in the future to buy small plants, orchids or succulents.

Nice location for a date with your loved one ️. There are several spots for cute pictures and to just sit down and enjoy the view. The butterfly garden might be empty depending on the season, so if thats the purpose of your visit, call ahead and ask. The employees were incredibly nice and helpful! One of them even showed us an African Grey Parrot from up close. Also, students get a significant discount!

The gardens are beautiful!!! Very much green, not wirn down or unkept. The staff is very nice! There are birds, butterfly, iguana and other exhibits! Please make sure to follow the trail paper!! It is huge, but goes into one big circle!! The lookout is very nice overlooking the marsh water they have made. The flowers are all bloom, very green, or to the color they are made by nature!! The price for the trails if greenery and animals are priced right!! It is worth it and i can understand why some people would stay awhile. There are plenty benches throughout the trail to sit and relax in the shade!!! The playground is nice, but i guess its closed due to Covid-19. But its super cute!!! Tbe gift shop has many gifts to choose from with a restrooms! Also, there are port a potty in yards if cant wait and they are clean!!!! Take your time, wonder around, take pictures, enjoy the time here!! We did and plan on visiting again!!

It’s not a good start for a Corpus Christi visit. Too hot and arid for an October dayThe plants are not well taken care of. The butterfly garden had only one butterfly there were more of them on the outside, which is apparent lack of proper care. The rose garden is well organized and lots of chairs to sit, which is the best part of our walk. The reptiles are very limited.Overall, I wouldn’t come here again unless a serious upgrade is done.

South Texas Botanical Gardens is a delightful little out-of-the-way gem in Corpus Christi. My daughter and I went over Memorial Day weekend and found a plethora of native and interesting flora, plainly labeled. We also were pleasantly surprised to find a great collection of beautiful tropical birds, reptiles, and a quaint little butterfly variety. The gift shop housed a very nice selection of souvenirs, all VERY reasonably priced. It was easy to see that Allison and the rest of the staff truly enjoyed their jobs as they explained the sites inhabitants. We even got to hold snakes, pet lizards, and feed the beautiful birds. It is just a quiet, beautiful place to spend part of your day.

I visited the botanical gardens last week (September during Covid-19) and was very disappointed. The outdoor gardens were neglected. Everything looked like it needed water and no one had trimmed the dead roses. There were flats of plants for sale that were dying. They have a collection of rainforest birds on display in individual cages that were not big enough for them to fly. Please build an atrium that will allow them to fly or at least stretch their wings. Add some trees and play areas to keep them busy.My favorite part was the nature walk out by Gator Lake and beyond. I will not return again...

Quite a beautiful and serene place to visit if you want to see different colors, scents, birds, lizards, and the like. Just watch out for the sign that says Caution, Native Habitat for Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes. This place was so great. The organization is a non-profit and several of the people working are volunteers. All of the birds and reptiles there are rescues. One of the volunteers let us interact with a very large iguana who thought he was a dog and a coral snake who liked to cuddle. We got to hold the small turtles. The parrots and other birds were so cool. We bought a bag of pistachios for 3$ at the front desk to feed to the Parrots. We attended parrot talk, where four staff each had a bird and taught us in depth about the great responsibilities and commitments to own a parrot. The staff was all so knowledgeable and answered all our questions. Oh, and they have plants. Lots of plants, but we ran out of time to view them all. Kids would love it here. A super cute playground is also here for them.

It was my first time visiting the Gardens and my family and I had a great experience. They were in the middle of construction so we had to go in through the reptile room which was a little confusing at first but not too bad. I basically paid to walk around a park and look at a few dying plants when you can do that for free anywhere else in Texas. I mean if your looking for something unique and for your kid just be sure to bring a first aid kit and some water, child got hit with a low hanging cactus and since theres not too much tree coverage, bring water or something to hydrate with.

Ive been coming here since I was a kid on field trips. For years, I didnt know where this place was at. I felt like the sign off of SPID doesnt do it justice stating it is off of Staples Street. Seeing as my city is kind of a tourist spot, I feel that is misleading. The botanical gardens is alot further out, and I feel people will lose their patience trying to get there. They have some parrots, turtles, lizards, snakes, frogs, and can be quite cute for kids. They do have some amazing places for photos. When there is dollar days in Corpus it gets packed, seeing as there normal prices range from $8 and up. They do have a gift shop as well. You have the opportunity to volunteer here. I have several times before. The staff can come off sweet southern charm friendly, but tbh can be quiet rude and impatient if you do want to volunteer. When asking questions they can rub off the wrong impression. Ive experienced this first hand. But understand theyre strictly volunteer based with help, and run the large property by themselves. They put a lot of hard work and effort into taking care of all of the animals, and land. Please take the time to visit them. They have been going through a remodel. There are cool prices and deals on groupon as well.
