Great wooded trails in a manageable park. We visited early on a weekday and had the entire park to ourselves. We had a great walk before the sun was high despite the excessive heat warning to take effect later. The park attracts a lot of mountain bicycle riders, and sadly theres no map and often no delineation of the walking versus bike trails. It seems that the numbered colored marks are generally for bikes and the silver vertical rectangular marks are for foot traffic. I believe there are multiple foot trails from the time years ago when the park was operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.Unfortunately vandalism along the river edge of the park (broken fencing and graffiti) underscores that responsible adults need to closely monitor juveniles and their own path lest they damage the park further and/or slip and fall towards the river. If you need a place for socially distant picnicking, there are a couple of sizable pavilions and maybe a dozen or twenty picnic tables and grills. The park also has some restrooms but we didnt go in so I dont know if theyre functional.

I didnt know that so much history was this close to home. Beautiful! The actual owner of the buildings donated we met. She invited us into her beautiful historic plantation! That was quite the surprise! She has so much history in her. I told her this information needs to be in a book. She has experienced so much in her life. The donation of the buildings and property that an actual civil war battle occurred is amazing. They set it up in a town form. These are all the buildings that would be found on a plantation and town, not that long ago. Very interesting!

First impressions as a lone runner, is that it doesn’t feel very safe. I went on cloudy Sunday afternoon and it was like a ghost town. There was a couple of other bikers, but also some sketchy looking vehicles. I left pretty quick. Good place to get robbed. Maybe I just went on a bad day.

Beautiful place with a good view of the Arkansas river with some biking trails and very moderate hiking trails. Nothing too big orcomplicated. There are rocks you lay out on and paint and its a good place to bring your friends. I would advice the painting rocks for kids unless you keep a really close eye on them because its really easy to fall off of the rocks if youre not balanced well enough.

Really nice discovery on our journey back to city. Looks like the mountain bike trails get well used. The lake overlooks are very nice. Lots of picnic tables...i hope they all get used. Im sure the boat ramp is a huge draw on the weekends. The historical structure is really nice and provides just the right amount of learning experience for young ADHDers.

Two mountain bike trail / hiking options. From the top of the hill you can take the southern trail or go right to take the northern trail. The southern trail has some steep rocky sections at the beginning and winds around back and forth through the woods. The northern trail is easier and more beaten down / less rocky. Northern trail has a few cool bridges to cross over and is longer.

Great views, but usually crowded. Bikes zoom past you unexpectedly as you hike and apparently is a hot spot for mountain biking “squads” lol. But you shouldn’t let that stop you from enjoying the views. I took a short hike via one of various well defined dirt trails. It didn’t feel “natural” and the cyclers really dulled the experience. Great views but not worth driving out of the way for. I’d find somewhere else, especially as a local.
