TheatreWorks is a very special place to see plays in Colorado Springs. Around the World in 80 Days is a great family play for the holidays this year. This non-profit theatre group is worth supporting.

Excellent venue for theater, music, and dance. Were long-time subscribers to their theater seasons because we enjoy the variety of offerings, as well as the talent and energy of actors and staff. The new building is magnificent, with excellent performance spaces for a wonderful range of musical and dance groups from all over the world. Colorado Springs is very fortunate to have the University of Colorado here.

Acting was ok. Stage sets were way too sparse for this type of play. Not the best stage play by far at the Dusty Loo at ENT performance theater.

The theatre we were in is small enough to feel that the spectators are a part of the production. The crew was professional with a small band that was amazing!

So, its a beautiful building, and that doesnt stop on the outside. Ill get to the theater itself in a minute. I went to a student matinee, which was much, much cheaper than normal ticket prices, so perhaps your experience will be better if youre paying full price. The only discounts they seem to offer, other than what I just mentioned, is for faculty and staff, and its only a few dollars cheaper for them. I guess staff and faculty (perhaps only the ones that Theaterworks cares about?) must make pretty good money. Anyways, there were three people working the box office, but only one that could accept money and print tickets for us poor folk (i.e., students). If youre paying with a card, being it with you; it looks like they dont have the capabilities to use Samsung or Apple Pay with your watch. I was told that the printer wasnt working correctly, but it should suffice at the theater door. When I got there, my ticket wasnt even looked at. Walking into the theater itself (one of the black boxes), I was taken aback by how wonderful the set was. The seats were very comfortable. I sat in the first row, so Im not sure about the stadium style seats above, or the mezzanine. When the play started, we were informed that anyone if anyone in the stadium seats were to leave during the performance, they would only let you sit on the mezzanine on your return, causing a little concern for me (Im on crutches and dont I wouldve made it up the stairs). The play itself was ok. I felt uncomfortable, which good theatre is supposed to do, but it also felt a little forced; the play was commissioned by UCCS to address current political and social issues. I felt that it was rushed to the stage, but quite ready yet. Technically, the state and set were modern and worked perfectly. The props and costumes seemed right for the play, and you could tell that the actors worked hard and were very believable and did s marvelous job with what they were given. I just really wanted the playwriting to be more polished. As for the staff, I dont care if its a matinee or if someone is paying full price; they should treat at of their patrons with the same respect and dignity as any supporter. I was trying to purchase an experience, and I felt that the staff certainly failed to deliver that.
