The history of events depicted in this beautiful pass was insightful.!!!!! KUDOS to Chief Joseph and his band of warriors. The first nation peoples personal knowledge of the land from the Chief Joseph trail over the Dead Indian summit to the Big Hole massacre site, over the lost trail, Sorry it ended in such tragedy
Very interesting all the history the area encapsulates. The various stations at the overlook explained in detail, but briefly what happened there. Plan to go at sunset! Beautiful views!! You’ll spend about 30 minutes there, and it’ll take about 1 hour and 45 minutes from Yellowstone to get there! There’s also beautiful views of the rock formations and landscape going down toward Cody, WY. Plan to pull out at the scenic overlooks and get some great photos there too!
At this time of year, 60mph winds, blowing snow. Still beautiful. Not fun to work at. But worth the cold.
This is a spectacular Scenic spot on the road. You will see mountains and deep valleys. The mountain features are spectacular. There are tiny little brown stripe Chipmunks thats evidently love people because they come right up to you begging for food.
The view is incredible, on both sides of the pass. I was slightly annoyed the beartooth pass was closed to get to Red Lodge from Cooke City, but the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway is an amazing detour.
Dead Indian Summit Overlook. This place a kind of Pit Stop for the driver to take a rest for a while before continuing their trip to Cody, Wyoming, Yellowstone, and going to some National Forests nearby.Besides as a Pit Stop, this place could be used as a photo site to take a scenic picture but the best one is a panoramic view.
This is one of the best motorcycle roads in America. The view from here is AWESOME!!
If I go to Yellowstone or anywhere near there, I always take this route either going or coming. It’s such a beautiful, peaceful drive. I always feel like I have been reborn after seeing such beauty.
Beautiful drive, amazing views. Great way to drive into the park.
Amazing views! Interpretive panels provide a good overview of the Nez Perce conflict.
Well worth the drive up but leave the trailer at home.
It was glorious, a must see, beautiful.
Wonderful ride alittle road construction but great
Nothing like it you have to see to believe
Beautiful view of the road/mountains and awesome informational plaques
Love this area. Full of history and beauty.
Beautiful lookout. Well worth the stop.
This spot has breathtaking view of the Sunlight Basin and Beartooth Mountains. There are several signs describing the history behind the sites name and the history of the area. Vault toilets are available here but parking can start to become more crowded as the summer moves on and the Beartooth Highway is opened.
Amazing views and some interesting history!
I dont know if it was the 8000 ft above sea level or the view but I was breathless
Spectacular views for which photos just dont match. The overlook offers a chance to stretch the legs in preparations for more curvy driving ahead, no matter which way youre traveling.
Awesome drive in a car or even better on a motorcycle on the way to Yellowstone park.
Very beautiful overlook, windy though haha
Absolutely breathtaking.
If youre anywhere close, this trip across Chief Joseph Scenic Byway is STUNNING!
Amazing route to take!
Absolutely amazing view!
Incredible road-- one of the best motorcycle riding roads-twist & turns on Chief Joseph Scenic Byway off Bearstooth pass. Great overlook.
Its a nice place to visit
A must stop view of your assent up Chief Joseph highway.
Beautiful, no other words
Great motorcycle ride. Lazy 20 mph turns. Not too hot. Colors of the mountains are stunning. Overlook tells the story of the Next Pearce Indians.
If you cant to Yellowstone, this place will impress!
It was the 1st snow of fall. Its always a beautiful place to stop, stretch your legs and use the rest room before heading down the switch backs and into the valley. There are several plaques commemorating the battle between the Nez Perce and the u.s. calvary way back in the day.
Yup, its beautiful.
Good photo stop on the side of the road. Provides a great view of the plains below.
At the top of the pass.
Nice and long drive into the NE entrance to Yellowstone. Lots of beautiful lookout points and stops. Be careful with washed away roads!
Breath-taking views. One of the most beautiful places Ive been. However, what happened here brings home the haunting history of how the Native Americans of this region suffered at the hands of the government of the time. Next to the overlook is a beautiful metalwork of two Native Americans. Just watch out for the chipmunks looking for a handout - they are not afraid of humans at all!
Breathtaking beauty. BTW, the name would not get a pass today. Just sayin...
Beautiful scenery
Sad but informative
Fantastic vew!
Very beautiful up there and the chipmunks will eat out of your hand.
The views are spectacular, and the signs explain well how this pass got its unusual and unfortunate name when an injured Nez Perce was left behind wounded during 1877 and then was killed by an army scout. There are also spectacular 12,000+ peaks from this location well marked on a display.
Spectacular views!
It was beautiful
A breathtaking view that should not be missed when near the northeast side of Yellowstone park
Amazing view!
OUTSTANDING..
Prettiest drive in the state !
Very gorgeous views even in the winter. Cant wait to see it in the spring, summer and fall. I will be back!
Beautiful
This is a fantastic overview at the top of Chief Josephs Scenic By way which is one of the Wyoming Scenic roads. I would recommend this to anyone. It is a must do road if you are on a motorcycle.
Fantastic buffalo burger!
Absolutely beautiful. Snow on the mountains
Beautiful scenery!
Breathtaking beauty
Nice view
OMG
Amazing place, views and scenery. A definite must as a biker.
Magnificent view along an unforgettable highway
Quite an extraordinary place. If you ride a motorcycle you should check it out.
Amazing view. Must stop
One of my favorite stops on the trip.
What an awesome view and great history lesson!
Hell of a view. Super windy when i was there. Also the chipmunks like sunflower seeds.
Great for photos and has restrooms.
Outstanding views and great history.
Amazing views and a great ride.
Great spot to stop and enjoy the amazing views.
Fantastic ..always..
Interesting area to learn how the Indians were hunted and the way they outsmarted the military.
Scenic overview of the road which winds up the pass. In the 1870s the Nez Perce tribe passed this way attempting to evade pursuit by the US Army after the battle at Big Hole. The pass is difficult to find unless you know where it is, or so I found, but the effort is well worth it. Interpretive panels and some art installation (?) at the roadside stopping point, as well as discretely hidden bathrooms, which were the most filthy I saw in WY, (although still usable!)
An amazing view, its a must see
Beautiful panorama especially when the light is right for photos!
Great view
Killer views!
Gorgeous scenery. You could hear the wind whistling. Make sure you have your camera!
Beautiful country and informative display
Great place with amazing view and landscape!
Awesome place enjoyed the lookout
8000 feet in the sky with a great view, a good story and the cutest little chipmonks to come say hi too.
Beautiful scenery and incredible history
One of the most beautiful drives I’ve been on. Breathtaking!
