Great view from the top but the visitors center was closed. I suggest driving and walking the lower part of the river. This is just to the west off the main road between Cody and Yellowstone National Park. It is on the left hand side immediately after leaving the long tunnel. There is plenty of parking. The visitor’s center is closed but there is an informaitonal display in the parking lot and you can walk on top of the dam. I highly recommend looking downstream from the top of the dam, the view is excellent. Also, it is a separate trip but I highly recommend driving to Hayden Arch Bridge, parking the car and walking the road to see the lower part of the dam. This is a very nice walk to see the other side of the Cody Dam. We decided after just arriving in cody to go and see the dam. We put it into our maps and it took us to the lower part of the damn. You can drive to a rubble public parking lot and then walk past the gate. Another roughly 1 mile walk will take you on the asphalt road through the canyon and tunnel to the lower part of the dam. It is a lovely walk and not very well travelled. I would recommend this for anyone in the area that wants to see a beautiful canyon next to water running over rocks. Very pleasant. Both sites are worth the trip.Enjoy.

An awesome stop on the way into Yellowstone! The visitor center has a movie detailing the construction of the dam along with a lot of pictures and descriptive signs. I really thought it was very interesting! There is a golf cart that will bring you from the parking lot to the visitor center and back!!The gentleman driving was very informative and even wiped down the cart after each trip. I was happy he had a tip jar!!

Unfortunately the visitor center was closed when we were there. The views were amazing. We really enjoyed reading the information panels at the parking area. There’s so much history to be learned behind this dam. It is definitely a must see spot while you’re on your way to Yellowstone.

Well... this place definitley took me by surprise. The view is so... incredible from every angle & I couldnt even imagine the level of work went into building this place so many years ago. The visitor center bathrooms were very clean, but keep in mind that you cant see the bottom of the toilets. Its just a black hole that might go to Narnia, lol.. So, dont look down, if youre afraid of dark holes :)

Great stop. Visitors Center was well done. Includes info on dam history and engineering. Good video presentation. Also had interesting sections on fossil finds nearby, agricultural info, animal displays, and some Native American background. If it is windy when you walk out on the dam be sure to listen for the metal railings to sing like wind chimes.

There is a short walk to the visitor center from the parking lot but there are golf cart shuttles (for tips). The area is so picturesque. The visitor center has a great film that shares the history and formation of the dam...great film. We loved the views here.

Buffalo Bill Dam & Visitor Center. If you visit Cody in Wyoming state. This Buffalo Bill Dam is one of the tourist destinations in the western part of Cody. Built between 1905 and 1910 named Shoshone Dam renamed Buffalo Bill Dam in 1946 in commemoration of the one-hundredth anniversary of Cody’s birth to honor Cody as the founder of Cody City.It also was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971This dam is for irrigation and water reservation, it was the highest dam in the world at that time.If you go to Yellowstone you will pass this Dam and you can drop by for visiting and taking pictures there.Cannot park your car near the Dam but move a bit further, do not worry they provide you with an Electric cart to go to the Dam. No entrance ticket to visit this place and its a nice place to visit and see the lake and the state park. You can walk along the trail on the top of the dam to take a picture.

We very much enjoyed our time visiting the Dam, we came back up here after finishing the Trolley tour. Stay to watch the short video, and look around at the fossils and in the gift shop, lots of great stuff to see. We appreciated the fun golf cart ride to and from the parking lot and the driver was a hoot!

This is a quick stop right on the side of the highway - just a short movie history, a few short displays, a gift shop, and the dam - but its actually really interesting and fun. At the time of completion, in 1910, it was the tallest museum in the world, and its had a huge development impact on this area of Wyoming.

Much like the other tourist destinations in northwest Wyoming, this visitor center is clean and staffed by some of the most polite personnel that Ive ever had the pleasure of interacting with. A cart drives back and forth from the parking lot to the visitor center every 2 to 3 minutes for folks who cant make the short walk. There is a 15 minute video that details the history of the dam and a gift shop within. The view is impressive if a little intimidating.

Such a fun place to visit! The dam is absolutely SPECTACULAR and so cool to see. The visitor center offers little shuttle carts to and from the parking area (though the walk really isnt outrageous, or anything). The center offers a nice view overlooking the downstream side of the dam. It has a small film area featuring a short documentary on the dams history and construction, and some fun interactive displays that kids and adults alike will enjoy.

We were surprised to find as much historical material here about the dam as there is. They also have a gift shop with a stamp for the national park passports. And of course the views are breathtaking - the roar of the dam is near defeating, but there is quite the serenity to it. It is too bad there isnt a place to sit and relax outside or have a picnic lunch. Still very worth the visit!
