So, I no longer live in the Cleveland area, but when I did about 8/9 months ago, there was a woman who worked here who worked mostly for tips (from my remembrance) in the 2nd story womens bathroom, fixing girls makeup/perfume/hair/etc for the fairly drunk chicks during party hours. I give this rating a 4/5 because I only came here twice in my 1 1/2 years living in Cleveland, but this woman (who turned about 60yrs last fall) gave me so much confidence the times I came here, and I just wish her the best and hope shes doing okay during this trying time. She has my best wishes.

Velvet Dog is hands down the best place for a night out in Cleveland. My friends and I always enjoy ourselves because of the excellent staff, drinks and music! I recommend bottle service with Marie, she’s very accommodating and easy to work with !

We reserved a rooftop cabana for our friend’s birthday. Marie was friendly, accommodating, and made the entire process easy. The entire staff was great, making sure we had everything we needed to enjoy the night. They even made sure to bring drinks right at midnight to celebrate the birthday girl. We had a great time and I would definitely recommend for your next birthday celebration.

We went to the fifty shades male revue. Couldnt get an answer for questions prior and the show that was supposed to be from 7-9 didnt start until 8:30. Then most of the time was spent just trying to get us to spend more money. We spent over $300 between the two of us and ended up leaving halfway through the show Dont waste your money or your time.

Awful bartender......on a 12 days of Christmas tour...had a VERY rude bartender. Didnt spend a dime walked out and will not be back. Cleveland has a ton of amazing bars to visit...dont waste your time or money on the Velvet Dog.

This place is amazing! I came here for my 25th birthday and got the VIP package and was extremely satisfied by how well we were taken care of.Very attentive and professional staff and the rooftop patio was awesome with a great view of the city.Ive been to many downtown establishments and I must say this one is now my favorite.Great music and atmosphere and looking forward to making memories for years to come.

I went with a group of friends this past weekend and was very pleased with the service and overall friendliness of the entire staff. Marie was our server and she was by far one of the sweetest and funniest people Ive ever met. My time at the Velvet Dog was made so special as they went the extra mile to make my celebration with friends was very special.The Velvet Dog is such an awesome and safe downtown club and the service was fast... 5 stars for sure!!!

Absolutely love this place. Had so much fun celebrating my birthday here multiple times. Marie took awesome care of us and went above and beyond to make sure we had a good time. The bartenders are fast and make sure you do not have to wait for a drink. Make sure you check out the rooftop and vip bar when you go there.

I went with a group of friends for New Years Eve so my experience is going to be tailored to that specific event and doesnt account for their normal operations. We paid for VIP access to have finger foods and the unlimited open bar drinks. My only issue with Velvet Dog is that I believe they sold as many tickets as possible to fill the establishment to the legal maximum occupancy. The place was packed and I dont blame them for that but the fact that it took an average of 15-20min to get a drink is ridiculous. I felt so sorry for the poor bartenders. I counted about 120 people in the upstairs section alone with only 2 bartenders to work it. Seriously? Also, the DJ they hired missed the countdown for the ball drop. I suggest not bringing him back.

I was physically assaulted by one of the staff bouncers last night. What started as a screaming request to move away from the rooftop stairs led into him asking me to leave. While heading down the stairs to exit, he stated that he could “put his hands” on me if he wanted to and then proceeded to body check me into the wall repeatedly. He also physically blocked me from speaking with the police officer outside. I’m planning to file a report and press charges.

One of the best night clubs downtown! Awesome staff, music and drinks! Definitely recommend it especially if you’re looking for a good time :)

Bought a table and bottle service for my 23rd with a big crew and we had an amazing time. staff was cool and accommodating to our entire party and vibes were on point down to the music. we were well taken care of. definitely recommending to friends heading down to warehouse district

Had one of the worst bar experiences in my entire life at this establishment. Turns out the dress policy for visitors seems to only apply to people of color. My friend got kicked out for wearing a white t shirt and when I politely asked the bouncer about others that were literally 5 feet away in the bar with the same white t shirts I was escorted out as well. I wont be going back.

Marie was an awesome host and Velvet Dogs rooftop the perfect backdrop for my brothers 30th. They were there to greet us and bring us to our table. The service was spot on and quick! From start of planning all the way through until the last drink served, I couldnt have asked for a more pleasant experience. It was truly the perfect end to our already long day of celebrating. I cannot wait until our next party.

Attended this bar with my wife yesterday and we had an absolutely horrible experience with one of the female bartenders. She had a shaved head on the sides and a blonde ponytail on the top with tattoos.Our first interaction, she gave us a complete attitude for no reason whatsoever. I went to the bar again to buy a round of drinks for us and our friends and we waited over 5 minutes, which is fine, it was busy. The frustrating part was she saw us, saw that a group of guys cut in front of us, and served them over the waiting customers that she saw. I made a comment about it and she snapped at me in a rude manner. I made a comment about her customer service skills and she began to mock me, making faces. I was in disbelief of her unprofessional behavior. I ended up having purchasing drinks from one of the other bartenders.Employees like this truly ruin businesses.I can’t recommend a location like this to my friends, family, or anyone for that matter. I’m not one to write reviews, but our experience was absolutely ridiculous and this place has lost my future business and recommendations.

Don’t Trust these people with your ID , my Girlfriend had a Girls night out for one of her friends birthday. She gave the bar tender her id and debit card to run a tab which they just throw in a fish bowl for everyone to see the credit card number and other personal information ext.. then at the end of the night they tell her they are closing that she can’t get her card she has to come back tomorrow. How are you going to hold onto someone’s property. Then she email them and calls and leaves multiple messages asking them to give her a call back. We hear nothing then a week later when they finally reopen and you can get ahold of someone they tell us they can’t find the card or id anywhere. What I can tell you is I’m not spending another dime there . Very disappointed in the customer service because it was a cool spot to hang.

Too packed to get a drink. The downstairs is too well lit. Lines are very long. Music choice is decent. Upstairs is more laid back but the sound system sucks.

I drove over an hour here last night to meet up with my cousin who was already inside celebrating her birthday. When I got to the door, the bouncer refused to even look at my ID. (Im 29) When I asked to speak to the manager, his response was, I am the manager. Extremely disappointed with the rude service/staff, and the waste of a drive to come to your establishment. Customer service skills are essential in the real world and I think they need to be reviewed with your bouncing staff. Thank you.

We had a great evening after the Browns game against the Steelers. Unfortunately I left my cell phone at the table we were sitting at. One of the employees turned the cell phone into the manager and held it for me. I emailed the manager (email on website page) to see when I could get the phone. They made arrangements with me to pick it up despite the fact they were closed until the following weekend. I thought this was awesome that someone was honest and turned my IPhone 5 in and they made arrangements for me to get it.We have always enjoyed going to the Velvet Dog and this situation just made it an even better establishment. Its always good to go somewhere fun and not worry about being safe. Hats off to Velvet Dog and their staff.

If youre from out of state, dont bother coming to this place if the fat bouncer is working at the door. Hes never been outside of Cleveland, OH, and doesnt know what out-of-state IDs look like so he will give you trouble. So very rude!

Staff needs to take classes on how to run a business and sensitivity training couldnt get a refill on bottle service. Overall despite the drink prices its a good place.

If you are looking for a pick up place that is the place to go. But if youre looking for something nice I would say no. Back in the 80s. The Flats was the place to be all the clubs where fabulous. I do not recommend this place but that is in my opinion. Since I am older now, its way to noisy

The drinks are ok here, and the place has a good vibe to it. That and the rooftop patio, when its open (come on we are in Cleveland here and the weather is only good for the rooftop like 3 months of the year) is awesome. And its a relatively large club and the music is pretty good.

The worst place I have ever been to. There is a rooftop we were on and it was 130 and the VIP section was open. All we did was sit down because our feet hurt and this awful waitress with long curly dark hair came over and rudely demanded we leave. So we all got up and my friend (her birthday) had a plastic cup that someone poured half their beer in for her she said she needed the cup back my friend went to take the sip and she was SCREAMING at her to hurry and finish it. Mind you we werent even drunk or doing anything that would make her act like that just sitting down. Then an officer came over and he was even like cant she just finish the drink real quick. And the girl was like no! So she grabbed my friends arm like she was a child ripped the cup away and shoved her down because it wasnt her cup the officer then made us leave because of how the waitress acted. Even though he was nice to us he should not of protected the waitress like that. You cannot attack costumers. My friend has bruises from being grabbed. If it was me being grabbed I would of tried to press chargers. Lucky for this awful waitress my friends a little nicer then I.... I will never ever return knowing that the waitresses can assult costumers. We spend a lot of money here and did not deserve that treatment.

This place isnt anything. The decor is terrible! Watered down drinks and high prices, and for what? Cover charge for what? They try to act like this place is all that. NOT! What a joke!

I used to love coming to Velvet Dog and have been here several times. Recently I have been denied entry upon presenting my out of state issued drivers license, although there hasnt been issues before when I used the same exact ID.The bouncer proceeded to publicly humiliate me in front my friends and curious onlookers. He claimed my ID was fake and almost threw it away so I could not find it. When the organizer of the private party pressed further to explain why I was denied entry, the bouncer said that it was a private establishment and he can deny access to whoever he wants. I am offended and I find this behavior disgraceful.TL;DR I would not recommend this establishment to anyone unless they enjoy being treated like garbage. If I could give 0 or negative stars, I would.

My favorite place to go to in Cleveland. Its a cool bar and I like what they have to offer.

The Dj is not good. He isnt terrible, but his music selection feels outdated rather than throwback, he lacks basic mixing skills, and does not transition well between tempos, flows and genres. He kills the vibe constantly, and has a hard time reading the audience. It felt like a bad bedroom Dj playing music for a BBQ.

Ive had past run ins with the security there that were obviously discriminating upon me because of race (not dress) but now theyve gotten more lax but downtown is just too wild at times anyway.
