I cannot say enough about the quality performances I have seen at Francis Wilson Playhouse! I recently saw South Pacific and was blown away by the professionalism of the actors and personnel! The theater is intimate and lovely! If you haven’t visited Francis Wilson, give yourself a treat!! This is the perfect show to introduce yourself to the magic of theatre

Todays production was Chess. It was a musical, but a drama. The cast was supremely talented, with a tremendous breadth of voice and acting talent. The playhouse is closing out its 89th season. The 90th starts in the middle of August. Imagine how wonderful it is that an institution in Clearwater has been alive, well and vibrant for 90 years!

We spent Halloween attending opening night of South Pacific and loved every minute. Just a beautiful production with excellent music and a genuinely talented cast. Special thanks to the adorable two youngest cast members for giving up trick-or-treating to put on such a great show for us.

Titanic musical was enjoyable. Acting, costumes, music, light interesting exhibits on the walls, unique pictures, everything was excellent. Parking is in construction, I had to walk in heavy rain through big paddle, not much light. I am sure its will be nice when they done.

An adorable theater with some of the most welcoming and informative staff. The quality of the theater was superb and looked brand new and renovated. Top talent paired with kind employees and shows featured the top 100 on Broadway, this little gem cant be missed.

This theater really needed to address the moldy type of smell that patrons encountered as they entered the theater lobby. The plays vary and the talent is very good. The last play had a man who had acting as his career and so my former 2-star rating has moved. (GOOGLE LISTED Establishments DO read reviews; they want your patronage so be critical and kind out here; you may want to go back and try again. I did and FWP has my kudos!)

My first time, so will give it another chance. Not impressed with South Pacific, The actress playing Nellie was good, but the guy playing the planter was off key and tried to simg in a French accent, but not to well. I love the part of Lt Cable but it needs a Tenor, the actor sang in a false Alto after giving, new meaning to gayer then spring time, I left at intermission so as not to hear you got to be taught sung in the wrong key. Not sure why the Director let it get away from him, but I hear good things so will trust this was an exception and will try again.

Review №14

In their 90th year. I believe they have it figured out by now. Great acting by all of the cast which are amateurs who have full time positions elsewhere. Season tickets are the way to go. And check out the concerts which are all worthwhile. The staff who run the place are most accommodating. We have been sustaining members for the past 10 years. Try one play before you join. I believe you will be hooked.

Great little theater! I was impressed with the talent. The seating was good (could have been angled slightly higher for a better view), but parking spaces seemed pretty plentiful, even with the local construction. Will definitely go back to catch another show!

Review №18

A very professional amateur venue with talented and dedicated volunteer actors. Its enjoyable but its not Broadway and you shouldnt expect it to be. The lighting is excellent, the seats are very comfortable but the building is old and has a bit of a musty aroma if your nose is sensitive. Parking is free and the concessions bar is reasonable, overall a positive experience and worth the money.

I’ve been seeing shows at Francis Wilson for a year and South Pacific was no exception to the amazing caliber of quality storytelling the theater puts on. To begin with, I personally hated the music of Rogers and Hammerstein..before I saw this show. Everything about the show was excellently crafted from the cute campy sets, Liz Werlin’s wonderful backdrops and the lovely lighting that helps extenuate key points of the story. Rebekah Stevenson as the lead Nellie Forbush is an absolute force to be reckoned with, fitting the vocal quality and character of the piece so effortlessly. Wil Toro brings a fresh new take to Joe Cable with a certain vulnerability at times that I believe must be recognized in male characters and I applaud him for bringing something new and exciting to the table with Cable and not just trying to be some Macho Man. Toro’s “Younger than Springtime” has this lilt and lift to the piece that shows a beautifully crafted character, so headstrong but taken aback by something such as love. I sat up in my chair when the song began because I realized “wow, there’s so much more to this character than I’ve ever seen anyone else perform”. Dale Badway is yet another tour de force in this show, showing yet another wonderful casting choice. Emil is a character I didn’t necessarily pay as much attention to when originally listening to the score for the first time, but Badway has this care and tenderness that sets up his character in such a loving light that you can’t help but really feel for him. Eddie Mcnally also puts on a charming and funny performance as the Billie, always on stage and causing the audience to riot with laughter, always stealing the scene with his precedes but not in a negative way, Ed is the cherry on top of this cast. Overall, the Francis Wilson production of South Pacific is a show that you would not want to miss, it is not everyday a theater like this can continuously put on amazing production after production. Bravo to the cast and crew!

Awesome community theatre for 80+ years! I saw Oklahoma, Anything Goes, Carousel, Hello, Dolly, The Wedding Singer, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. On Golden Pond and others. The cast is all-volunteer, but that doesnt mean they arent talented, and many former professional actors perform there, simply because they love theatre.

Saw Grand Hotel and threw cast and crew were wonderful. A little too cool for comfort the night we went. Such a quaint venue, I hate they have miked the stage. It really took away alot for me and made dialogue harder to understand for my husband. Will continue to support this wonderful part of area history.

Co
Review №82

The atmosphere is my favorite part of the Playhouse. Its almost like someones attic. Theres a certain smell that the all-wood, antique buildings have. Id actually review this as a five star, if it werent for two consecutive horrid plays Ive seen there: Pippin and Oklahoma! I walked out on the second. The cast doesnt match the old playhouse; they pick from the local high school, so it felt like I was seeing a high school musical. None of them had any talent -- acting, singing, or otherwise.
