I had just the best time here. The signs are fantastic, both the breadth of styles and the types of sign on display. And what I loved most was the history behind it. The museum doesn’t just display the signs, it talks about the trends in signs at the time, as well as the specific circumstances of the sign in question. I also liked getting to see the sign restoration work in progress. Very worthwhile if you’re at all a fan of Americana.

My husband and I loved it! It was so cool seeing some of the old signs we grew up with, and as a graphic designer, it had a special place in my heart revisiting the history of the progress of signs. For my 15yo, however, they breezed through, not reading placards, finishing early and then being bored. Thats how teens can be sometimes, though, so I didnt let it dampen my excitement about the experience. Also, there is a really cute little gift shop.

This museum was located in the hesrt of an industrial area yet easy to find. Tickets were $15 per person. The museum showed the history of signage with the neon era the highlight. Best part of museum was a recreation of a main street america with all the neon signage. It takes about 60 to 90 minutes to tour museum.

Very interesting museum! Make sure you read all of the placards because there are many tiny details about the signs that you may miss. The pictures of this place dont do it justice and if you are lucky enough to go on a day when they are making or restoring signs you will be able to watch through the windows into their workshop. We went to The Turf Club for lunch afterwards and found it was the perfect place to eat since they have a ridiculous amount of neon signs.

They even have a workshop where you can build your own neon structure! There were a bunch of different signs, and explained the techniques behind making them! From the gold leafing, to the sandy texture of older signs. They have a renovation shop where you can see where they would repair signs they get in. A great stop for a road trip, or for anyone who’s interested in signs.

This place was a pleasant surprise. While it isnt a big place, it was obviously put together with a lot of thought and care. It cost $30 for me, my wife, and my daughter (daughter got in free). We were not sure about going to this museum at first and not sure what to expect for the $15. Trust me, this place is well worth the small fee. We went with our three year old and tried to do the guided tour. Our son was much to small for the guided tour but we simply were able to take a different path from the group and enjoy ourselves. Fantastic place and totally worth seeing. This was one of those unexpected drive-by, double-take and do a u-turn kind of things. The museum is much larger than it appears to be from the outside and is crammed to overflowing with neon and signage. It reminds me simultaneously of Disney World and Las Vegas. While the main focus of the museum seems to be neon, it includes many other other great examples of American signage. Management was completely rude, and aggressive, with zero customer service training, theyll follow you around and accuse you of being in a place for two hours after scanning your ticket to enter only fifteen minutes before and then try to kick you out. The rest of the staff was excellent, kind and helpful so I dont blame them or fault them. Dont waste your money though $15 is way too much for admission, to be treated like garbage when you walk only 150 feet inside the space doing nothing but trying to take pictures and respect the art.

A wonderfully quirky and awesome sign museum where you would least expect it - in a former factory in of all places, Camp Washington. A graveyard of signs dots the parking lot and gives a glimpse of what to expect inside. There is even a small but terrific gift shop. Cost is $15 which may or may not keep you from visiting but I hope not. Looking for something different to do? This is it. A must stop for graphic designers and Americana lovers. Tip: while you can certainly do a self-paced tour take the guided tour. No extra $ and the guide (Kevin?) is both informed and entertaining. Tip#2: watch out for the metal badges they give you for entry. They are sharp and you can gouge yourself - just ask me.

There are positive and needs important reviews for the museum.Positive are1. Some local collections available2. Few good old signs mostly of retail industry3. Audio descriptions availableNeeds improvement are1. Categorize the collection in sections2. Detail stories and importance of the sign3. More details and connections of art and sign with history4. Why this signs were made the way they are5. Need more signs from different era and placeThese details will help local school students and enthusiasts to come and visit more oftenAn average person like me, who do not know much about signs can spend around 30min to an hour, given they really see everything. The cost of ticket is high per person considering if you are not too much into signs (understandable, since I dont think they have figured out a way to bring more footfall and repeat business maybe less, moreover maintainance may be high)

Such an amazing place and great for the kids. The museum has lots of iconic signs and it starts right as you turn the corner to pull into the parking lot as you stare down the iconic Holiday Inn sign with working animated lights. The front door is flanked by more neon including a giant hammer and a huge genie-type character bidding welcome whos legs you have to go through to enter.I wasnt really sure what to expect but the inside of the building looks all new with a spacious lobby, nice waiting area by the rest rooms, and a small gift shop with t-shirts, sweatshirts, and other bits of Americana like Moon Pies and giant Tootsie Pops.Admission is reasonable and the tour starts just off the lobby to the right. There is a link to their web site for a self-guided tour which was super-helpful. While there is audio, I found the written description of each area to be better suited to the enjoyment of the family. The tour stars at the letter room which displays many sales samples over the years and talks about the founding of the museum. The tour then proceeds to the left where you can see samples of very early signs (19th century) way before the electric era. Progressing on there are samples of show cards, chipped glass signs, and gold leaf lettering, many in pristine condition. Its the electric era where the collection really starts to take off. Incandescent illumination first, obviously, but neon soon follows. The neon hall is like Vegas meets middle America. So many iconic brands.A highlight is when the signs started to animate. A giant rotating star dominates a room with eclectic samples of animated signs, vacu-formed plastic, and other unique signs. The main street section puts all the signage in context with the Howard Johnsons and classic McDonalds signs dominating the space. Behind main street is the restoration garage and the Cincinnati heritage room/barn-sign room with a real life Mail Pouch barn wall. The Cincinnati neon works is located at the back of the building where you might see the staff building neon for their customers. Apparently they offer a class and I totally want to take it. You learn to create neon and get to take home your creation! It takes about an hour to go through and enjoy the museum. If you stop to read all the information and really admire the signs, it will take considerably longer. Regardless, I think it is impossible to go through the museum and not gain an appreciation for something we take for granted.I will add that the museum specializes in commercial signage. There is nothing about public signage like street signs, cross-walk signals, or the such. That would have been a nice to be able to see the history of that as well. Maybe there is a different museum for those.

Alex was entertaining and a great source of information you wouldnt learn just from reading the information plaques. However theres not enough time in the day to talk about all the signs on display so after the tour, we walked through a second time. This museum was put together by a man (with help from others) involved in the craft of sign making for generations and his love of the craft shows throughout the museum.
