The improv, wild physical aspect of the comedy reminds me of a lot of acts Ive seen at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh. The theater is a secret library holding 10,000 books designed to look like a speakeasy.

This was the most fun I ever had with Shakespeare! Creative drink ideas. Very intimate setting. Ensemble cast! It is beautiful cast they could do the same show with a new cast or same cast doing different roles! Bid on the King and Queen seats. I regret not doing it this time, but when I go back! Boy! I heard they also have a venue in NYC, going to look them up!

Hilarious! This company can mess with Shakespeare because they know the material (even while drunk). But even if you don’t know the play, you’ll get a kick out of their fearless and funny Shakespeare/improv take. The space is great too: a book-lined room in which the audience sits along the shelves. And the bartender is a total pro, who mixes fine drinks (the actors are drinking, so why shouldn’t the audience?) at the bar or served at your seat during the show.

This was amazing. This show is perfect for both Shakespeare aficionados and newbies alike. It was beyond hilarious, AND perfectly acted/recited. I could not recommend this show enough.

While there is no direct way to call the theatre, it IS wheelchair accessible. Anyone with issues sitting on hard benches should bring a cushion. You walk into the bar area which has 3 restrooms, order a schmancy drink, get taken back to the theatre where you can order more drinks or a few snack options from your seat. Bring cash if you want to win the throne. Very funny show with lots of pop culture references. Street parking with a Chicago parking app or self park garages if youre able to walk a few blocks.

Uproariously funny.A cozy venue that doesnt have a bad seat in the house. Its a high energy, raunchy, irreverent interpretation of a Shakespearean play, and you dont even need to know the storyline to enjoy it. Audience participation adds to the unpredictability, and the actors mingle with the crowd after the performance.Highly recommend.

Simply fantastic!!! Incredible and talented performers. This is a 90 minute show and we felt engaged and entertained the entire time. We attended with a group of four, and everyone had a marvelous time. Familiarity with Shakespeare is not required - the act is explained as the performance moves along. The venue is relatively simple and small in size but that adds to the appeal. The performers are all over the place. In front of you, behind the seating, in the aisles. And tons of improv. We would certainly see it again.

Of all the comedy shows Ive seen in Chicago, this is my absolute favorite! The venue is cozy, the performers are funny as hell, and the whole atmosphere is welcoming. If you want to feel like youre part of a Shakespeare performance as well as an absurd drinking game with your friends, this is your show. Dont miss this!!!

#drunkenshakespeare, an excellent addition to #theatre life in #Chicago..The set is a #speakeasy library full of life, and the actors were outstanding in their improv with set lines. One gets drunk, so you never know what will happen..For a better experience and part of the show, be the king and queen..Overall, definitely a hit and fun atmosphere for pheasants like us. Make a special night..Rating: 3 out of 4 stars..#chicagotheatre #Theatre #theatrelife

Absolutely incredible job from the cast. An abridged version of Macbeth with a dash of improv and, of course, plenty of libations. There is the chance of some audience participation, so do be aware of that, but it is light hearted and no more invasive than you are comfortable with.

You dont have to know your shakespeare to enjoy this show (though it might add a layer of nuance for those who do). Found Drunk Shakespeare while looking for something to do on a cold weekend in the city with friends. None of us really knew much about Shakespeare, so dont let that deter you from checking out this hilarious show! The actors were all outstanding, funny and worthy of any of the legandary improv stages. Its a cozy theatre with not a bad seat in the place. We had a great evening and this was the highlight of our trip!

Extremely fun way to spend an evening! Definitely plenty of drinks and laughs, and I would see it twice in the same week based on how unique and different each show seems to be. The venue is very intimate, and there is a great level of audience participation! Probably even more enjoyable if youre familiar with the play they choose to perform, but it is definitely not necessary. The cast does a great job at making the play understandable, but thats probably the least important thing compared to the rest of the fun in the show.

Review №39

I have been a Shakespeare fan since I was a child. I have seen almost every play performed live, some more than others. I have a passion for live performance, particularly theater. The troupe is clearly well-versed in both their knowledge of Shakespeare and their knowledge of how alcohol affects the body. Some people seem to doubt if the actor/actress is legitimately drunk. I say: does it really matter? The chemistry and cohesion of this organized chaos was indicative of the talent in the room. Libations were had by all, pants were lost, beans were spilled, bells were rung, and laughs were shared. I doubt Shakespeare wouldve wanted anything less.A man cannot make him laugh – but that’s no marvel; he drinks no wine.

The show is phenomenal. Look for discounts before you go! No outside food or drink so beware of that. You can get drinks here (pricey) and a few snacks. Drink, eat, and order throughout the show. SIT ANYWHERE the seats really dont matter as you are so close to the action from anywhere. Cheaper seats are better if you need back support - Sit against the wall.Loved it. 10/10 would point of order again.

Review №55

Overall the experience was awesome and I definitely recommend.I manage a theater in Chicago and have a few things to state here:The good:- show is incredibly funny. The actors are so on point and work well with one another. They are genuinely having a good time which makes the audience follow their energy.- you do have that awesome “speakeasy” feel to the show. Very well done.-including audience members is SO much fun.-the cocktails were delicious! The bad:- the flow of traffic from one show leaving to another show entering.- the bar service was slow for a drinking show.- missed opportunities for the theater to make twice, nay, thrice its income.I’m not sure if anyone from the theater reviews these, but here is a more in depth critique. A few suggestions should they want them.Firstly, the “lobby” is an absolute mess, with a bar that takes up a significant amount of room (and which you can’t even order a drink pre or post show... so why have it to begin with?) It’s a narrow fit between the entry way to the theater. If an earlier show is letting out while you’re trying to get in, it becomes a nightmare of a traffic jam. With no staff other than bartenders to tell you where to go or what to do, you would have hoped they had a solution for trying to evacuate a theater, clean it, and have a new set of audience members enter.Suggestion: have a roped off area outside of the theater for the second show to line up. Clear the audience from the earlier show. Have one bartender at the door to check IDS. Have one person at will call for tickets.Once we sat down on our bench, we were greeted by the wait staff that informed us of the drink menus if we wanted to order. My party ordered drinks, though, they didn’t arrive until nearly halfway through the show. A second round of ordering arrived almost 10 minutes before the show ended. Cocktails that were “made to order” abolished the ability of the canned goods and prepackaged alcohol to flow smoothly. It’s cringeworthy when the actors are goading you to “drink more if you don’t think that is funny” or “raise a glass to toast ‘so-and-so’ “. I would, if I had a drink to toast with, but I finished mine 15 minutes ago and am waiting for a server to come along to take my order.Suggestion: pre-make the cocktails in large jars and pour them as they are ordered. If you run out of a particular cocktail, too bad! It’s sold out! Come back for more if you liked it!This will increase your bar service tenfold. OR, eliminate the cocktails altogether. Have pre-packaged alcohol available only. Beer, wine, and mixed cocktails straight from a can.We wanted to drink with the actors as much, nay, more than they, but were sitting with glasses emptied and livers longing. How to order a drink. It was hard to relay to a wait staff that we wanted a drink while watching the show.Suggestion:Similar to Texas De Brazil, have a sign / signal for each person? A way to tell the wait staff that you need libations to cheer the actors on! (This is especially important, as we are promoted not to talk during the performance.)Meet the actors? There were so many people that had questions for the actors and desperately wanted to chat with them. It’s a shame that we couldn’t have 30 - 45 minutes of a cocktail hour after the performance to share a drink and chat. If the theater offered only canned beer at the end, I am sure there would have been plenty of buyers that would have bought a round for the cast to discuss what they just witnessed, and how it all comes together. The show was so abundantly fun, but I feel it would have been an absolute knockout if things ran a tad smoother.I really hope you consider my suggestions, and apologies if you have thought about these things, but they just aren’t feasible.I hope to return soon.
