Unfortunately the Begin sign is completely defaced by stickers. You dont see the text, not even the background.

Unexpected, but fun to see after a great day at The Art Institute of Chicago.

The original begin of Route 66 is one block south of this sign. There is also a sign. But its great to be here and to know that there starts the route.

Just a place we had to visit having completed a good part of 66 and some more to do this visit. A good photo opportunity even if you never get to drive it.

Its easy to miss. It was really interesting to go to because it was on the way and my dad talks a lot about route 66 and his times on the road. Im something I would definitely go out of my way for but if youre happening to be near the area stop by check out the sign.

Brings back memories from when I was here two years ago. Homeless man named Dave was hanging out at this street corner this visit, hes pretty cool. Bring him some painting supplies!

This is the beginning of the mother road of the U.S.A. Take it from Chicago to California and experience many wonderful memories along the way.

The end sign is better but you are a long way from that. There seem to need a lot of start signs. But any of them is still the start so some fun.

I mean, not a lot to say about this spot. A road sign on a street corner in Chicago. Having been across and at the other end of Route 66, I guess it completes that experience, lol. Best thing is there is an abundance of other things to do in this area so get the photo-op then check out the local area. Enjoy.

I dont know if I should rate this sign. I was expecting something bigger or more catchy. It is a sign accross the street from Chicago Art Museum. If you will take the route, you can take a picture in front of it.

I love Route 66, so this sign was super cool. Its a bit stickered over, but its still iconic.

Having been to the end of Route 66, whilst on holiday in Los Angeles, it seemed only fitting that I paid homage to the start of it whilst visiting Chicago.

Unbelievable that I got to drive CHICAGOUS 66 !! Cant wait to ride my Harley Davidson from California to WindyCity & back home!!!

Just a sign, but still historic.

It begins here and ends in Santa Monica, California. What a long distance it covers. What a long distance I covered as well.

I walked passed this and didnt even notice it. Was pointed it out and everything. Now I look it up and see its historic. Its just a sign with stickers covering it. Dont understand the hype.

Its simple but if youre nearby, why not check it out? Especially if youve traveled along this route at some point.

Its nicely random to look up, way up, intending to look at the Sears Tower and accidentally notice the sign indicating to start of Route 66. Almost makes me want to go to L.A.

Ok, why is Google asking for a review about this place? Its a sign indicating that the legendary route 66 begins/ ends here.

Be prepared to be asked for money if you are standing in this area taking pictures. (As with a lot of the more touristy areas of Chicago)

It is a historical landmark. So close to the Art Institute and all great attractions of the loop.

Lots of stickers which covers the sign, so its a little disappointing.

Michigan Ave in Chicago Ill start sign of the historical US route 66

It would be worth more stars if they would have restored it. After all they got the money to do just that. Thats the reason they had all the towns and citys and places along the way rerouted or closed off and promised compensation to all that lost money on the account of the restoration being done. But the job has not been finished and the rerouted not routed back the closed off opened. You cant get to places and well you get to point. Things and places not ware they were before land marks, town lines, county lines, state lines, country lines, tribes lands in the wrong Nation. We are native Americans we were over 500 Nations with lots of tribes in each Nation. How many Nations of people are there today? What almost happened to the Jewish people already happened here to many Nations of people. Remember the past. To NATIVE AMERICANS the Old Country IS this country..USA. And we will always protect and defend her and our children. One Nation under the same sky. Father sky ,mother earth. Thank you .from KILLASAN.aka little flower.

A little obscure as we missed it the first day and had to go back the next day and look again. It is directly across the streat for the art museum.

The famous Route 66 starts at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Adams Street. Its just outside the Art Institute of Chicago, and easy to find at this easy to access location.
