The tomb of IL senator Stephen A. Douglas is below the column. You can see the sarcophagus made out of Vermont marble with the inscription of his last words Tell my children to obey the law and uphold the constitution.Douglas died in 1861 written out by his presidential race in 1860 where he lost against Abraham Lincoln.It is a serene place with lovely old trees. Nice place to just rest or mediate for a while.

What an interesting place to visit. Stephen Douglas was a great man. You can find out quite a bit about the man. The grounds are better maintained now than a few years ago.

Great historical landmark. The tomb of Stephen Douglas, the Lincoln rival who at the end of his life urged the nation to support Lincoln in his efforts to preserve the union. Illinois had the two most influential politicians of the late 1850s and early 1860s, Lincoln is world renowned and here lies the other. There is a nice pedestrian bridge right outside with access to the lakefront trail

A great piece of American History

This place is very peaceful in a weird way. Messy things dont happen at this place. The tombs are very nice and well done for look through vists.

A great Illinois. Historical landmark in Bronsvill a peace of the past not known by many clean friendly monument like Lincoln tomb.

It was okay.

The guy who runs this place doesnt even know anything about Stephan Douglas. I didnt come to this tomb to learn about LINCOLN. Let me tell you what. If I was ever homeless, I would most definitely sleep here. IT IS DRY IN THERE. NOT AS DRY AS PROBABLY AT A LINCOLN MEMORIAL, but 5 stars none the less for effort.

Interesting historically, if somewhat lost in the present day. Some displays of information about Senator Douglas remarkable life to provide historical perspective would make this much interesting and visited.

Excellent tourist spot

There is different from how it looks like in the street view. Now in 2017, there is a bridge, nice and full of lights. Good for walking or biking.

Very rustic, It will be great for birding!

More than 25 species of birds have been sighted at the Tombs bird oasis. Beautiful park with picnic tables. Adjacent to the Burnham Wildlife Corridor and 35th Street lake front.

Interesting to look at, but have to agree, an outside historical display is needed.

It was closed but from behind the gate it looked awesome!
