Every year I like to come and visit the museum. I like bringing the kids to enjoy the alters that are displayed every year during the month of October. The museum it’s self is not very large but they have plenty of things for you to see. Make sure you pay a visit to there gift shop they have a lot of cool stuff to look at and best of all the museum is free with a suggested donation.

I give the (FREE admission) National Museum of Mexican Art located at 1852 W 19th St, Chicago, IL 60608 FIVE CHICANO STARS. Yes, free admission but be kind and give a donation when visiting. This museum has many changing exhibitions with beautiful art. The four galleries have so much for us to see and enjoy. The Tienda Tzintzuntzán has plenty souvenir options. s even the areas surrounding the museum has plenty of graffiti art.

Absolutely beautiful place. Free admission. They have different rooms, some permanent exhibits and they just had the Day of the Dead exhibit which is extraordinary. The store has a lot of amazing trinkets, clothes, and traditional Mexican decor and stuff. Highly recommend this place. Usually spend like 1.5–2 hours there.

Cool little spot for art. Theres a pretty dark section that I didnt like but maybe I just didnt get the big picture behind that specific art. Over all a good place to visit. One of the staff members got a little snappy on us because werent wearing our backpacks in front of us.....but everyone else was friendly.

I had a excellent experience visiting this Mexican Art Museum. The expositions were great and very interesting. The place is nice, well maintained and the staff very attentive. Additionaly, the museum has some espacious areas for special events, a great plus. If you like the Latin, Maya or Aztec culture, this is a place to visit.

On the smaller side but they still have plenty of works. Beautifully displayed and maintained. Loved their gift shop as well- plenty of cool gifts and cute trinkets.

Visited the museum in November and got to see their Day of the Dead altars. The museum is small but the art is beautiful; an affirmation of Mexican, Latino, and Hispanic identity by capturing history and cultural experience. I especially love the exhibits that champion the working-class experience. Lovely place to visit! Great activities throughout the year!

This museum is absolutely fabulous! A wonderful place to take your art class, Spanish class or both! I think kids of all ages would love it.

Tucked away in a wonderful neighborhood with so much history it is free to the public. Enjoy the exhibits and then the local food.

Amazing little museum tucked away in an up and coming neighborhood known for its ethnic latino cuisine and amazing murals.

A wonderful gem in the city. A perfect place to wile away an afternoon and enjoy exhibits. A perfect size so you do not get tired and rush thru. Bonus its free. Also a nice museum shop inside. Street parking can be found but be careful of permit parking only areas.

Quite an amazing museum to immerse yourself in Mexican Art. For lovers of art and history alike, plenty of opportunities to learn something new or revel in the massive number of artifacts. Especially make sure to stop by during the month of October when they have the Dia de los Muertos exhibit. Absolutely free museum means there’s no excuse not to stop by and check them out. Close to public transportation options and they even offer bag check for travelers from far away.

This is a fairly small museum in the area and is typically free for locals. There isnt a very large collection here, but if you want to spend some time looking at Mexican art, it is not a bad place to spend an hour or two (if you take your time). Given that it is free, you cant go wrong visiting and just seeing the different pieces available

This was the 1st time my family and I went to the National Museum of Mexican Art and I have to say that it was such a wonderful experience. The museum isnt huge but the amount of art that is inside makes it feel enormous! The amount of history that is there and the information that is shared is not only about Mexican art but of the Pilsen area itself.The admission to the museum is free but make sure that you leave a donation.If you have a few hours, take the trip to the museum and allow yourself the time to take a journey.

This place is pretty cool and definitely illustrates the Mexican history and culture of the people both in Mexico and Chicago. Some exhibit rooms were unavailable to be visited within the facility.

As a Mexican American, I found this museum amazingly representative of our community. It has both older, more typical art and newer, local, social-justice-oriented art. Loved it! Ive gone twice and will definitely go back when I get the chance.

I came to the museum based on recommendation and to check it out for a field trip. Everything the reviews say, is true. The museum is incredible.I loved the temporary exhibit and felt that even middle school students could relate to the meaning and inspiration behind Luis Tapias sculptures.While reading the reviews, I discovered that they had Day of the Dead events in late October. I cannot wait to come back to experience that with my sons another day.

A cute and small museum, full of interesting and lively pieces. It was really nice to know it is free and open to the public. They have a special exhibit with Francesco Toledo which was beautiful, unique, and wonderful. It was nice to see the transition of art style through history, giving you a true feel for Mexican art.

Its a small museum with free admission. They have 4-5 exhibits to see. You can spend between 3-4 hrs here if you really want to read and see all the art which is very beautiful. They have a small gift shop. My husband and I loved it.

Beautiful and free! This museum covered a lot of bases showing ancient and contemporary art. Themes exhibits and interactive stations. I love the gift shop too. They host wonderful events as well.

Great art and free. Kind of small and some of the rooms felt like they were too big to have just a few items. Wish the gift shop wasnt so dang pricy. Lots of cool stuff to want to purchase but dang that much for an ornament?

Very welcoming and informative. Some of the art is spectacular, and all of it is fascinating. The space itself harmonizes well with the exhibits. Plan on a morning or an afternoon there — its not huge, but its very rewarding.

This museum is amazing. The artwork is so powerful. It reminds us of the rich history our country has and all the talented artist. This is a way to keep Mexican heritage alive among the new generations.

The is one of my favorite museums in Chicago. The display of art is absolutely outstanding. All the exhibits are well curated, culturally educating, colourful and beautiful. The museum is free and its easy to find parking with-in walking distant.

This place is truly a gem. I went to visit during Día de los Muertos and the ofrendas and artwork were moving, informative, and stunning. I cannot wait to go back and visit many times to see other art installations. A must see for visitors and residents alike!

It was very busy on the Day of the Dead, but the exhibits were beautiful and diverse. The facility is well equipped and maintained. Theres also a little restaurant just up and across the street that I also recommend. Enjoy.

I attend an annual fundraiser here every year. As a hosting venue, it’s great. Everyone has a good time.

Inspirational and amazing art work! I love looking at the culture and the emotion that went into this art work. This museum is free but after looking st the exhibit you should definitely make a donation. The gift shop has a vast amount of great mexican gifts from pottery, to posters, to jewerly. All around a great place to spend an afternoon. Truley worth going to see.

This museum is amazing....and free

Smallish museum...only about 4 rooms. But, the art in the rooms is spaced out so it still seems small in terms of whats inside. I went through in about 30 minutes but it seems like there are tours which I might see about next time. The gift shop seems like theres more in there than in the whole museum.

I was pleasantly surprised. It doesnt look to big from the outside but it opens up really well inside. Theres couple of different galleries showcasing Mexican art and culture. Its a mix of Mexican,Mexican American art prices. Everything from classic to modern art.

The National Museum of Mexican Art in Pilsen is amazing. They have a wonderful Día de los Muertos exhibit on right now. We had a tour and our guide was very knowledgeable and welcoming. Highly recommend.

Wish they displayed more exhibits as I know for sure there is plenty of space inside (constant shut down or rented out signs). My favorite time to come here is when they have the day of the dead altars set up. I always buy something from the gift shop to give more. They desperately need their own parking lot. There is a large space (grass area) next to the museum being improperly used for park district staff nearby, as its not an actual parking lot & its damaging the grass from vehicles being parked there. The museum should seriously invest in making it into a parking lot & charging to park since the grass looks horrible & parking nearby the museum is such a hassle.

A museum fit for a lover of modern art galleries. One of the best museums in Chicago. Donation-based too! Which means you can take your kids to get cultured for free. The art is... just amazing. An amazing collection. Some historical, some period pieces, some very modern pieces, some just plain great high art.

Its a beautiful museum that discusses and shows the beauty and story of Mexican culture. Came here on a field trip and had a tour guide walk us though the art. Its very colorful, the exhibits are eye catching, and youll leave with a little bit more knowledge. Just know that youre not allowed food or drink inside, for obvious reasons.

This place is very underrated. I highly recommend coming here at least yearly. They have some great pieces with a lot of hidden meaning. They also have many programs they host here which makes them such a good host.

This museum is great about the Mexica believes and traditions. Bring family and friends to remember our traditions. It will help to pass over the upcoming generations the belives and traditions as our ancestors did for us, who had lived in this land and continent for thousands and thousands of years.

Very cool exhibits with art from a range of different artists. My favorite was the tricked out lawn mower. Tis the season for Dia de los muertos or day of the dead. I learned a bunch about the custom and how it is celebrated. Very clean museum and the best part is that it is free admission!

This is one of the greatest museums in Chicago, not a lot of people know about it. Not a lot of people even go to it, this country needs to educate itself on Mexican art and culture. Some of the best art I have ever seen in my life, some of the only art to affect me emotionally.

For as many years as this place has been open at Pilsen, there is still insufficient Mexican art work on display, not enough exhibits and missing so much more of our Mexican culture! I was disappointed at best this is a below average museum.

Id give it six stars if I could. Beautiful art laid out in a way to appreciate and understand historical importance. Fabulous and free. Il definitely return.

This museum is really a must see if you live in Chicago. The fact that it is free and all that you learn when you are there, it is definitely worth it. I was really a fan of their Dia de los Muertos exhibit and particularly enjoyed the portion on immigration. It states facts that need to be stated and portrays so much through the art of the subject. Please go!

I was able to learn more about the Latino community and about my Hispanic background. All around a fantastic experience for all ages and a great spot for a first date.
