Went to an event at Africa House this Saturday. Awesome invite, awesome idea that promised to provide much to and for the community. I wish the outcome was as wonderful as the promise. There was advertised music and dance, no music, no dance, no entertainment. There was supposed to be a giveaway for African garments and there was but, maybe 60-65% of the people there for the giveaway actually were able to participate and as it was obvious an hour into the event there wasnt going to be enough to go around. The facilitators didnt let people know. They ran out of the numbers they were passing out and pulled out a legal pad to write names on as your number was called to go make your selection for your beautiful outfit that at this point you would not ever receive. Some people tried to buy posters from the previous African Festivals held annually at Washington park which are always on sale at Africa House but, where unable to as the curator of Africa house said he was doing something and could not look for them right then and advised us to come back another day. I saw him once with a plate of chips in his hand walking around being very social. and a second time chilling with some other men while he gave a plate of chicken wings hell.Busy??? Very memorable and extremely disappointing!!!!!!!!!! The disappointment was real as lots of us stood around and observed the empty promise fail to fulfill our expectations. It could have been a great event. The artifacts and pictures there glorify our ancestry. Real sculptures by artist like Woodrow Nash were there and beautiful!! Real fellowship among dedicated and woke people assembled to partake of the final Saturday of this month saturated in Black History drawn to a place that by name sounds like the perfect place to do so. It just didnt play out that way. Epic fail..........
