Connecticut and the whole northeast is a wonderful place to hike in. not only do they have great trails but the charm of these small towns throughout the northeast. just make you wonder what it must of been like 100, 200, 300 years ago. Connecticut does disappoint. the night before i put a little tower of power hiking trip together. being from a small town in NY i could wait to start my little weekend trip. we tried to hike to 7 towers, 2 museums and a water fall in two day. we could only do 5 towers because 2 were closed. our last stop of the two day weekend in Connecticut ended up with a very easy short nice little hike to Roaring Brook Falls. up until 1974 the falls was privately owned and since 1978 the falls are under close watch by the Town of Cheshire and the Cheshire Land Trust. if you have never seen a horsetail falls, Roaring Brook Falls is a perfect example of a 80 foot horsetail falls. what a great place for us to end our weekend trip to Connecticut.if you are just seeing this review and like to see the other place and hikes we did. listed here in order was our weekend trip (Mount Tom, Haystack Mountain, New Gate Cooper Mine & Prison, Trolley Museum, Soap Stone Mountain, Talcott Mountain, Sleeping Giant State Park, Roaring Brook Falls)

The first 1/3 is almost marshy and a bit creepy. After that, there is a small calm before a very steep climb(Id say about 30°). That part was trying, but beautiful views thereafter. Was definitely worth it. Not easy for children.

Beautiful little piece of land, off the beaten path and a moderately challenging uphill hike to the top where you can see the waterfall perfectly. There are no fences or railings along the steep edge, so beware if you plan to bring children. The old stone fireplace and pallet-styles bridges over the brook are quaint. Tons of good photo opportunities! Usually not a lot of people there, thankfully its still a very peaceful place. Hope it stays that way!

This park offered a nice early morning hike. The enterance to the park is on a small dead-end street. To get to the waterfalls there is a mostly uphill trek for about 20 minutes. After you experience the first falls, continue up a bit (to the blue trail) to see a secondary fall. Overall, enjoyed this greatly.

A great wooded park thats not too far away from Sleeping Giant park but far less people around. I recommend going after some heavy rainfall so youll be able to see the waterfall in full. Sadly, the waterfall was a bit dry when I went so the pictures dont showcase it well. Bear in mind that snakes are around and can hide in the waterfall pools.

Quiet and beautiful waterfall. The trail starts on private property at the end of a residential suburban road. A good portion is uphill and requires some effort. It’s about a half mile of steep trail until the actual falls.

Soo is this park/trail open to the public or not? Saw all of these great reviews about this trail so my girlfriend and I drove 35 minutes out to take this slightly difficult trail to some amazing views, just to see No Trespassing signs posted everywhere at the entrance. Whats the deal? By the way, the entrance is right next to someones house and driveway with no actual parking spots, and a sign that says Roaring Brook Residents Only on a gate that blocks the trail. Maybe were not as brave as the rest of you, but Im not coming back to a towed car just for a nice walk. Was very excited about this trail; dreams crushed today.

My dog and I love this quiet hike in Cheshire. Be aware it is steep in certain parts. Waterfall is nice especially after a good rain. Trail is well marked except for the first turn. Dont miss it or you will end up in a different but still nice trail. Tops of both options connect to the blue trail.

Very cool find! I couldnt believe there was such a beautiful waterfall right here in CT. I felt at times like I was somewhere exotic. It is a short but difficult uphill hike and very worth the views.

This is my favorite park in Cheshire. However, it is a difficult climb and if it is wet or there is ice it can also be dangerous. Note that dogs on leash are allowed.

A really pretty walk/hike. I never expected to find such a nice area so close to Cheshire. Half of the walk is very mild. There is a good incline for the second half, and very nice gorge and waterfall to view as your reward at the top.

Nice hike for intermediate level hiker Trail starts out nice an easy but gradually gets more difficult as you close in on the falls.I would not recommend this trail if you have young children or you are not in at least average to better than average shape. The trail does have some very dangerous spots near the top of the falls so one wrong move here could be very unforgiving One final note The parking area was strewn with litter so I wouldnt blame the local residents if access is cut off in the near future *Pick Up Your Trash*

Easy enough paths to bring our toddlers along, but hard enough to be a great workout. Love the views of the waterfalls...Only wish is some railings of some sort at the cliff edges for safety for those wanting a better look at the falls. Had a great time with the family

Its a nice hike and the scenery as far as trees is very nice. Especially in the fall. However, if you come in fall dont expect to see much of any waterfall. It was a little bit of a let down since I assumed the water fall would be more than a trickle. Im sure in spring its amazing.
