Great 2-mile trail. Half board walk; half groomed trails. Many trees are marked for species. Mostly shady. Monticello is at the top of the trail with clean restrooms. Suggest starting at the parking lot on the right as you make the turn to Monticello to walk downhill on the return and have restroom halfway (no others on the trail).
Monticello trail is a very nice and well maintained trail to hike to Monticello. Best to arrive early as parking is very limited.
We did a lot of trail walking here and found it to be one of the most beautifully kept parks weve visited. There was an assortment of trails from wide paved, to wide small gravel covered to more narrow and mulch covered to very narrow. There were plenty of trash cans, benches to take a break and random signs identifying types of trees. The one surprise was that we didnt find any indication of where any of the trails led accept for one short one that led to what was called a theatre or something like that. It was nice though.
I stopped here to stretch my legs on a drive and it was definitely worth it, the scenery is amazing and it was just a really cool place to be!
Beautiful park. Well managed walkways. Just wish the parking nearest the park was better.
This place is gorgeous! The scenery is super cool with all of the history and the trails werent jam packed. Wonderful little place if you want to walk the dog, take a little jog or take the kids out. Pay attention to the foliage, they are marked with what they are so you can know more about your area!
Well kept trails, short easy hikes, limited parking so plan ahead!
Large park that has a variety of easy to difficult trails. Beautiful landscape and views. There are some areas that are off limits to dogs but lots of trails that are open for dogs! Does not compare to SNP but is perfect for a local looking to get a quick exercise in without driving more than 20 minutes!
Great easy hike near Monticello. Smooth paths that work great for jogging strollers. Busy others weekends but not too crowded.
Great park located off of a 64 and near Michie Tavern and carter mountain orchards. Excellent for a quick hike through the woods. Very easy to navigate. There are other trails in the mountain that connect with Carter Mountain Orchard. The only thumbs down I would give this park is that dogs are allowed in part of the trail only. About half a mile from the parking area, you have to turn around. Other than that, beautiful
Great hiking trails for the family!
Its good trails to ride
Great place for all ages and abilities to stop or home they nature. Well maintained trails
Great place to walk
We have used these trails a number of times to break up a drive. The network offers a nice mix of experiences. A few of the graveled surfaced trails are wide, firm and stable. Most of the other trails are natural surface but have extensive tread preparations and are both easy to follow, and have a closer relationship with the woodlands. Also the non graveled routes offer some steeper terrain.
Beautiful climax forest with many miles of trails for the easy hiker set or the adventurer. Easy hikers can follow gravel trails with gradual inclines and adventurers can head up the hill on mostly unmarked trails. Note that the map available at the trailhead is incomplete, so unless you are comfortable with uncertainty and prepared to make important directional decisions on-the-fly, stick to the gravel trails! For a robust hike with elevation gain try The Hartman Trail, The Eagle Scout Trail, or the Jason Stevens Trail. Specifically note that The Hartman Trail becomes the Jason Stevens Trail without any markings to indicate the transition. There are also unmarked and unmapped side trails to avoid ... or explore!
Fabulous trails to explore!
Lovely walking trail with tons of beautiful scenery. Small parking area unless you drive a bit more to the bigger lot of of 20. Great way to spend some time.
Memorial moments.
This is an absolutely beautiful Park, part of the grounds of Monticello, lovely trails of all difficulties, with a short walk to an overlook just really really pretty especially in the spring! Enchanting!
Lovely trails, but if you are planning on picnicking, there are no picnic tables, so bring a good ol fashioned blanket.
The best trail ever! Safe, beautiful, mildly challenging, wonderful!
This is a fantastic park. The main crusher fines pedestrian trail winds it way up a gentle incline all the way to Monticello. Dogs are allowed up the first mile or so, but are restricted beyond that point. Off of the main trail there is an extensive network of trails through the woods and through a bucolic landscape. These trails are great for hiking and trail running. Have seen the occasional mtn biker there too. This place is quite popular, especially when the weather is nice, so be prepared for the occasional parking snafu.
A jewel of a trail all by itself, yet it leads up to beautiful Monticello. See it in the spring when the abundance of flowering trees, the rolling hills, and the landscaping make for a scenic extravaganza.
A quiet park with meandering gravel, dirt and grass paths. Great for walking, running and biking. No bathrooms. Also I did not see a kids playground.
Beautiful park and hiking area near Monticello in Charlottesville. The trails arent visible on Google maps but exist in OpenStreetMaps, which I definitely recommend for serious hikers. I use Maps.Me android app with OSM maps.
Beautiful walk. Slight incline on the way up but made the walk back really pleasant.
Great place to run and nice scenery.
Great trails with an amazing view. Monticello trail leads right into Monticello.
Very nice experience..
Very nice, but you can only bring your dog up the trail 1 mile. Dogs are not allowed on the bridge and beyond. :(
No parking lot I could find to park and then walk around the park.
Nice place for a scenic walk.
Great short hike for families
Such an amazing park! I enjoy my time there!
Beautiful. Butterflies everywhere.
Great trails always guaranteed to have a amazing time unwinding from the busy city life!
Need to cut limbs back from walking path
