The rocks are really cool but there’s no signage so our group kept ending up on private property. Probably wouldn’t go again.

This is a tiny little nature preserve hidden in a neighborhood in Ballantyne.Theres no parking lot for it. We just parked on the street in the neighborhood. We explored for about half an hour before it started to rain. You probably wouldnt spend more than an hour here though. The huge rocks are fun to walk through and you can even climb on them. There are also some trails down by the creek to walk on. We did this for a bit as well.If youre looking for an easy place to enjoy the weather on a nice day, this is a good place to come.

Was a beautiful thing to see, I brought my 1yr old with us. He loves to run around but there was broken beer bottles everywhere. All around the rock. He wanted down so bad but he is clumsy so we could only stay long enough to take pictures.

I used to hang out at this Rock all the time in my early teenage years (early to mid 90s) and found out about it through a good friend of mine who live din the neighborhood. Hadnt been back in probably 25-30 years, and this time brought my wife and kids. Had so much fun and glad it has been made into a nature preserve as it is much cleaner with no trash and graffiti like there used to be. They have built a nice bridge and made a loop that takes you in a journey to see several of the other large rocks close by. We thoroughly enjoyed climbing and rock hopping, and exploring the caves. We will definitely be back to play again soon!

Super quick hike to the rocks from the road. A few groupings of rocks set up in a way that makes for a good exploration. If you take the trail(s) down to the creek, there is a (natural) path alongside the creek that you can follow for quite a while, we had a good walk with our dogs. We parked across the street at the community park/pool, but I think you could also park alongside the road.

If people would stop defacing the stones, throwing trash and other things all around, it would be great...it is a huge piece of Native American history in our area...and should be taken care of better....its a shame....it was part of a ceremonial ground of the Sugaree Indians for thousands of years...it should be better respected....

Free!!! and worth way more than the price of admission. Most people will never visit this because they will never find it, but for those that do, it is an awesome way to spend an hour or so. It is a Mammoth Rock in the middle of civilization that makes you feel like your at the top of a mountain. Great photo opportunities! Great little walk!

You can park your car on the street and walk into the Reserve. It is fun for children because there is a history which is explained on the story board upon entering. But the slope may be a bit steep in certain parts for very young children. We had a fun time exploring the big rocks where the natives called home. Very educational.

I came here many years ago for the first time before all the houses were built around it and enjoyed it a lot more back then because Ballantyne had not come up around that time. It felt like it was deep woods. Now its just sort of tucked behind suburban sprawl. With all the houses surrounding it now it feels more like a park.

A peculiar, small natural wonder right next to the 485. A short trail leads to large rock formations. It seems the parks dept is warring with graffiti vandals. If you like these rocks, you should visit Hanging Rock Park in SC. Its one of the greatest little know natural wonders of this area.

Nothing like a nice walk in woods with the rocks and good company. Be careful, though, or you may miss the entrance -- the park sign marks the entrance.

Loved this trail and the giant rocks! Wished the trails were marked and a trail map posted somewhere. My son loved it and we talked about the Native Americans that camped out there and considered what life was like back then.Park on the street in front of the park sign. The park across the street is for members of the surrounding community and it is not open to the public.

Nice little nature site that had no one there. The rocks are cool. Wish they had more information about the native Americans who used to live there. Also wish the rocks were not covered with tons of paint to cover up the graffiti but people are idiots. Trail was well set up and easy to walk back to.

I had an alright time. It was lovely you basically walk along an unpaved series of trails adjacent to a suburban community. Like the green way only a little muddier.

Ro
Review №63

It is very easy to get to, but there isnt much else to do other than explore the rocks. Most of the rocks have been painted, so you lose the natural feel of the place. There was also a lot of litter, which spoiled the beauty of the place.

Small park nestled in the South Suburbs of Charlotte. Not a bad spot for an escape from all the hustle, shopping around. Best case, youll be alone and itll feel like a much larger park with creaks and streams. Youll forget your not in the mountains.Worst case: Itll be winter, you can see all the trash, graffiti, Swisher Sweet wrappers from local kids. Loses a bit of its appeal without the leaves.Clean up what little bits you can to make it a better place.

Very much a no frills experience but I thought it was pretty satisfying. As the name implies, the park is based around a big rock which sounds silly but is actually very interesting. Sadly some people vandalize the rock. Parking is on the road and is extremely limited.

This park is located in the Thornhill neighborhood, but is a Char-Meck park. The streets are wide enough that you can park on the street, outside the park entrance. There are over 20 acres to hike and explore, as well as the large rocks. A local boy scout troop did some work on the trail and added information about the Native American history associated with the park.

Found it on Google Maps and decided to have a pit stop on the way back from Carolina Place. It appears to be within a neighborhood. While I did find the sign for where its supposed to be, its barely there. I can only assume it used to be more of a public place but now theres just houses that surround it. Public parking didnt exist. Theres an area right across from it with a playground and parking. However, I guess there is no public parking due to the fact that there are signs that cleary state it was for residence and invited guest only. It was very disappointing that I could not find any parking to see anything. I probably would have parked there anyway but they were doing some birthday thing or something.
