Extremely beautiful and fulfilling gardens. We were there from 10:30 am until 4:15 pm. And that didnt give us enough time to tour the house or eat at the on-site restaurant. Instead, we went back to our Tahoe and made some quick sandwiches and got back to it. I took many hundreds of photos. Ill add just a few here. For perspective, my phone was at 100% when we started and at 13% at the end! I cant recommend Middleton Place enough! However, I recommend taking drinks and maybe a portable charger with you.

This is an interesting and great way to spend part of your day. Try to get Pineapple Tours out of Charleston. He is great with Middleton and Charleston history. He is intelligent and common spoke. Hes also funny but most of all hell tell you how it is for other sight seeing tours so you dont waste money and whats really worth seeing. He will tell you how it is.I know now he saved us money and time on things we were going to do. I highly recommend this tour. He is a down to earth guy who will speak his mind to help you get the most out of South Carolina. If we get back here again, I want him for my tour.

The gardens are so beautiful and staff could not have been better. Excellent family trip and history education. Only negative is the Inn on property we stay the week, smoke comes out of fire place, exhaust fan loud as chain saw, bed were singles that made you feel like you were rolling off all night, picture above bed showed guy that had blood splattered on both side very dark, seen build beside ours having work done question staff that confirmed no updates were planned for furniture or inside of room, they also stated owner were not willing to respond to any complaints. We loved garden but hurt your heart to see such a beautiful place ran into the ground only due to greed of Inn ownership from staff reports. Staff also loved the place and very very nice but hated also conditions they had no money to make needed remodeling required. Cost from $150 for single beds $250 for queen beds $309 for king bed at these pirces I never seen these rates with such a run down place, but again no reflection on staff or Middleton Place gardens or Restaurants. We ate several times at restaurant and each time the food was perfect could have not been better lunch prices were very reasonable about $10 cheaper than dinner dishes. When I requested the picture be removed for future guest staff was not open to my comment nor my concerns of large amout of smoke coming back into room when fire place was used.

Grounds are beautiful! So gorgeous and picturesque. Everyone who works here is so kind and friendly. They have a student discount for general admission, though I didn’t have my student ID on me, they let me log in on my phone and show them I attend school and gave me the student discount! House museum is worth it if you love history, though you’re not allowed to take pictures inside. Don was on the second floor and gave information about the history of both the house and the family! He was utterly wonderful, super knowledgeable and super friendly. You can tell he loves talking to people. My best friend and I are visiting from Nebraska, and this place was definitely worth the trip!

The grounds are very nice. The Inn building is nice architecturally and the rooms are quaint. However, we gave up trying to connect to Wifi. We killed a roach in the room. Our dinner meal was way overpriced. The goat cheese ravioli was awesome. My seafood special was good. My wifes short ribs were not tender and way too much fat. Told our server who verified all the fat and said she would let kitchen know; however, no feedback. A one time visit for us.

Very well kept old Plantation with so much history. I asked about any military discounts that we could use, but none were offered. During this Covid19, I personally feel that the prices should lower a bit, and discounts should be available for seniors and military retirees. Reservations are a must for lunch and dinner, but if you go for lunch you must pay the admissions fee into Middletown place (which does state on their website), and no admission fees if you reserve for dinner. I feel that the lunch admission fee into Middleton Place should be waived if JUST EATING a good lunch that is prepared by a great Chef and the team. A little pricey for my retirement to enjoy fully.

Great place to learn about slavery! Very good educational tour guide we received there. The house was ok, just kind of felt rushed through it by the staff and no pictures allowed, just like at the Alston house. The garden is beautiful with a lot to see and enjoy the good weather. Their restaurant on site is great but a bit overpriced. I wish I could spend more time there! Its worth to spend a day there just make sure you eat a large breakfast before going and enjoy a light lunch at their restaurant. Place closes at 5pm so after you can head to Summerville for a nice dinner.

If it were not for the servants, there would be no Middleton Place to showcase for visitors today.

As with most tourist plantation sites, it did not offer an in depth look at enslaved life, but did offer a focused walking tour that was meant to cover this specific angle. The tour guide was knowledgeable but did more talking than walking and covering the grounds. It seems to be a well preserved area and its certainly beautiful to look at. The gardens are exquisite. I was in search of something more, something that memorialized the enslaved folk. The video on the website does a much better job than the tour guide, but it was interesting to see the grounds in person.

The Middleton Gardens are beautiful and so peaceful to have a walk in. Theres a market, plant nursery, gift shop, and restaurant all on the plantation property. Even has tours of the house museum owned by the Middletons. A lot of history has happened here and its always fun to come back to visit it. There are benches, picnic tables, and hammocks along the riverside. Also, the rooms are very spacious and comfortable. I recommend a room with Riverview. Definitely a beautiful scene to wake up to. The bathrooms are big with plenty of counter space and big, DEEP, European tub with a shower in the corner. Youll have the best bubble bath/Epsom Salts soak ever I promise. You can go to the pool and even kayak on the river. You wont get bored here. We visited this plantation a while ago, but I never got around to writing a review. I read other reviews and cant really believe how I had such a seemingly different experience from everyone else. The focus of the information regarding the history of Middleton Place is not to give any reverence to the enslavement of thousands of people who made the Middleton family rich. The guide spoke in a very romantic way regarding the slaves, almost as if they were lucky to have been there. 90% of our group left the tour along the way as a result. I regret not doing so as well. It was highly offensive. The place may be beautiful now, but anyone who allows themselves to detach from the plantations absolutely horrific past in order to enjoy the sight of beautiful gardens should be ashamed. Even more shameful is the fact that weddings and other events are held there. This is akin to having a wedding at Auschwitz. Disgraceful.

There are no pictures allowed in the House Museum, but I enjoyed that as it increased my focus on the true beauty of the House. Another one of my favorite Charleston Plantations is Middleton Place! Its a much more symmetrical design than the others, which makes it unique. Ive photographed a lot of weddings, proposals, and portrait sessions here. The staff is always great to work with. And the backdrops are absolutely stunning. I highly recommend arriving early right after they open, or late in the afternoon. The light those times of day is magical as it skips off the Ashley River and filters through the Spanish-moss-covered trees. Plus its less crowded then. Grounds look great. One important note about the actual staff. They are either incoherent or just dumb. You buy your ticket at the ticket office. There are zero signs about different offerings. So you assume the ticket you just bought covers everything on the grounds. You walk a mile to the main house to be informed it’s a separate ticket. Obvious frustration sets in and they act like it’s your fault that there is nothing to let you know. Do they think people don’t want to see the main attraction or are they just oblivious? By this I mean knowing which gardens were blooming or that azalea hillside was all green and only a handful of flowers. Also I should have asked specifically where the carriage tour went. An interesting place. Rich and disgusting history (clearly this was a plantation and theyve done their best to preserve it). Middleton(he penned one of the original signatures on Declaration of Independence) kept good records and owned perhaps more slaves than anyone else (how ironic). The list of slaves and their price are listed in the slave quarters. In some cases, their price is not listed, rather their stats(age, weight).Nice boutique shops on site to purchase souvenirs, and even horse and carriage options to tour the large property. They have opened it to the public as an event venue as well, I was there for an event.
