We just stumbled upon this historic site while exploring Charleston. There is no signage, and it doesnt even come up in a search for parks or attractions. It is an interesting place, but you dont know what some of the relics are because again no signage. There are many research facilities and government buildings around it. Its right on the water, and there is a lot of natural beauty. You also have a great view of fort Sumpter. There were stacks of stones someone had erected at the Waters edge that were really neat to see. It was very peaceful, and not busy at all. Would recommend adding this area to your trip if youre interested in the civil war.

Nothing much to see and easily missed, thank goodness for the marker. Located passed NOAH near the marine observatory on the right

Home of SC DNR in the Low Country. So many good things happen here that it’s impossible to enumerate them. Come visit and see for yourself.

A little known site of significance regarding civil war history.First shot of the civil war was fired from here towards the more well known and visited Fort Sumter in 1861. Not much remains to recognise this historical fact here now except this building. It acted as the powder magazine for the fort. This is now located amongst a bunch of government research buildings on the peninsula.Parking is easy to find and a track leads down to the water from where you can easily see Fort Sumter (in fact you could probably walk there at low tide, but likely not permitted as Fort Sumter is a National monument).Worth a visit to get a full appreciation for the events that led to the civil war.

You simply cant get anymore historic than Charleston, SC, where the first shots of the Civil War were fired from Fort Sumter, which can easily be seen across from Fort Johnson. Right next to Fort Johnson is the College of Charlestons Grice Marine Lab where my oceanography lab was located.

Very cool! One standing structure left from the original fort on site. Plaque explained that this was where the first shot was fired on Fort Sumter

Kids loved it, great spot! BUT NEEDS TO PROPERLY ACKNOWLEDGE THE CIVIL WAR HISTORY BEHIND IT! Better signage to display the Confederate civil war ties then Id give a 5star rating. Lacking on that aspect.

Very little left, one small brick storage building and large monument marking where first shot of civil war was fired from.
