Absolutely loved walking through this arboretum and its gardens. Even a week into November, there was beautiful fall colors and lots of green. Even a few blooms! The space was relaxed and filled with people walking, studying, and taking their portrait. If I lived in Chapel Hill, I would walk here all the time.

Great place in the middle of unc campus to take a walk or just sit and relax on one of the benches. also would be nice to bring a blanket and sit on the grassy area and have a picnic. they have species markers by the various trees to identify them

A little slice of Heaven! While walking on campus, looking for the sundial just chanced on these gorgeous gardens. You walk down a gravel trail and immediately feel like you’re in another world. While it’s still early for most flowering trees, there are lots of daffodils, pansies, tulips, etc.Especially loved the arbor with all the vines. So fun and peaceful to just walk in it.It’s such a tranquil place. Will be coming back again and again.A very windy March afternoon, 2019

Beautiful grounds set uo to walk around and enjoy, I saw people reading, eating, and just taking in nature. There are big open fields, and narrow little paths. Lots of wild life and most plants and trees are labeled. Good place to slow down and admire.

I was waiting for a friend and happened to stumble across this place. It was such a pleasant surprise. Everything was quiet, cute and colorful. Just a nice place to stroll around and take your mind off of things. If you are on campus or are close by, I would recommend stopping by and walking around!

Quaint garden. Its very calming to be there. Some flowers were in their bloom. Many are not at this time of the year. It gets pretty hot and humid during summer afternoons.

Saw quite a bit of wildlife there in June (because of COVID-19). Lots of lovely plants and spaces to see and experience.

Awesome garden. Much more of a nice/natural over grown (in a good way) feel than some of the more museum like botanical gardens you may find. I really liked the atmosphere as its a more inviting and lush public space that just happens to also tell you what all the plants and trees are.

Make some memories by walking through this enchanting garden. I walked a mile to it the three days I was in town. There are many beautiful plants and although I enjoyed it in Fall, I can tell it would be spectacular with all the flowers in spring and summer too. There are many benches for contemplation and relaxation and there are green areas for little ones to run around or lay in the grass. It’s all in a small area (about a block size) so you can easily explore if you only have a short time.

A quiet sanctuary on the UNC campus. Completely free to visit, though you will probably pay for metered parking ($1.25 per hour). Serene and green, there are paths in and around the trees and plants. Plenty of benches and seating if you want to relax and observe. Probably not very interesting to children, though. There is a planetarium in the science building directly adjacent to the arboretum. Kids will love that if its open.

If you want manicured lawns and meticulously pruned shrubs, this is not the place for you; but if you enjoy and want to learn about the native landscape of the area then you will love this fantastic place! With plantings that represent the diversity of the native North Carolina landscape and its various habitats, there is much to enjoy and explore here. Beautiful, peaceful, natural and (gasp) educational!
