Best mountain around to hike! Well traveled trails of east & west loop. Plenty of small wildlife such as squirrels, chipmunks, etc. Moderate hike, portions can be a strenuous with the straight up hill. Views at the top are great! Although in a few more years there probably wont be too much of a view due to tree growth.

Great experience! Really enjoyed hiking the east trail for the first time. We took lots of pictures going on and stopped by a big tree before going to the top it took almost 2 hours to go to the overlook and 40 minutes back down. Fun time and people are so friendly on the trail!!

Nice steep climb to get to a great overlook of Lake Allatoona. Light foot traffic except at the top. Eagle Scout project at beginning of trail identifying various trees. Some unique mushrooms in mid November.

Great hike. Very zig ziggy rather than tough up and down. Lots of borders and roots so be careful especially in the fall.

Easy hiking to beautiful views. The hike up on either side is fairly easy but almost constantly inclined. The views at the top are beautiful, but it is difficult to see lake Altoona or Atlanta. Mountain biking on the other hand is a difficult climb to a technical descent.

A lovely set of day hikes. I suggest reading the trail maps online or at the parking lots. You can do each loop or make a nice big hike. Moderate. Some climbs and views.

I always recommend using the 20 spur trail entrance to get to the top. A little longer but not as steep and treacherous

Pine Mountain is an awesome place to visit and challenge yourself to climb to the peak of the mountain. At the top is an overlook to see all of Cartersville, GA. I fortunately live about 5 minutes away from the entrance and go here often for nice hikes and exercise.

Hike above lake Altoona. Two entrances a West and a East with separate parking lots. East side is less crowded. Once you start your from the East you can go left or right about a quarter mile up. Left is more straight up, right has more switchbacks. Keep taking turns towards the overlook. Thats the scenic view.

Well maintained and marked, this trail is one of the best in the area. There are two parking areas, adjacent to the East and West loop trailheads. Both loops meet near the summit of Pine Mountain with a short walk to a nice view of Lake Allatoona and the surrounding area. While the elevation gain is modest, if you walk all sections of this trail the total is approximately 5 miles. The East loop joins the Coopers Furnance trail, which is a relatively flat and easy ~2 mile trail that goes down to Lake Allatoona, the dam and the remnants of Coopers Furnace that was destroyed during the Civil War.Parking in the East lot is limited (unlike the West lot which is huge). There are additional spots to park at the Coopers Furnace trailhead which is just south of the east lot (approx 1/2 mile).

This is our favorite hiking spot! The trail is well kept. In the spring the trees make it look like a magical forest! It also has a lot of steep inclines.

I want to give this mountain trail 1 star and discourage EVERYONE from visiting and attempting the trail as well as the many other trails it can link to near the Etowah River, however, I am not a selfish you know what, I am more of a selfless person in near every regard. Anywho, if you do go, wait for it to dry as the 10 inches of snow that fell early in January melted, and refroze in the ground, grew some wicked crystals, then once again, melted and has formed a little mud that you can circumnavigate around, however for those with children, its best to wait for it to try rather than try to skirt around the few muddy spots by rockhopping. The overlook is a must see.I would rate the trail Moderate, its not easy, and its not very difficult for the abled body, you will not find any cigarette butts far up the trail, which is an indication of the level of fitness required. If you have 3 plus hours and want to burn some calories then do the West Trail, keep heads up for mountain bikers, they are only allowed on the West loop, you will not see many, however I encountered one that was a goober enough to not yeild to those on feet.Bear in mind, if you are running late the sun will be blocked on the West loop and you will quickly be in the dark, and cold, dont panic, just keep moving at a slower pace watching your footing. If you go late, especially near dark, be aware their are large cliques of local teens that use the mountain for their own teen pursuits.

The Pine Mountain Trail East is a loop that start in a small parking lot that accommodate roughly 10 cars and go up to Pine Mountain Summit which is about 1562 feet high above see level with elevation gain of about 742 feet. The loop is about 2.8 miles long but if you go up to the summit using left branch and return on it not looping the round trip is about 2.4 miles or less. The trail is relatively narrow and occasionally steep but not very difficult to climb. It is shady surrounded by trees, and the Boy-scout put some signs describing the type of trees you see.The views from the top are beautiful including the views of Altoona Lake but not stunning. The East Trail is less busy than the more popular West Trail but both meet near the summit.

Disappointed with the lack of water. We brought 3 dogs that would definitely have enjoyed a dip. But in 88° weather its expected the creek would be a little dried up. Quiet, not a lot of people. But not a lot of good views either. We ONLY did the East Loop.

The Pine Mountain trail is two parts; West, near I-75, and East, accessible from a county road by Lake Lanier. A moderately strenuous hiking trail is configured as a loop on each side of the mountain, connected to form a figure 8, with the link between the loops providing access to the summit. Its good exercise to hike either side to the summit for the views. Or, hike the full figure 8, about 5 miles ( 3 hours ) to get a real workout!

Review №66

Moderate to strenuous, depending on if you combine this trail with the West trail. I hiked the southern portion of the West trail to the summit, then went counterclockwise around the East trail, down and back up the mountain. If you hike to East and West trail together, you essentially hike up the mountain twice.
