Its is what it is. A nature preserve take a hike take a walk bring your dog bring your kids. And enjoy the nature around you. There are rattler warning but they only come out in the summer.

One of the best local hiking end biking trails through local nature scenery including a creek with little bit of a waterfall mountain to climb. And all around great place to be one with nature. One note of caution watch out for Rattle snakes. Thats seriously there are some big ones.

Beautiful spot to park, eat some lunch, and enjoy the scenery! We picked up some Poki from down the street and came here to enjoy. There was a perfectly cool breeze coming over the mountain.

I went for a early morning, muddy hike with my friend at the Calavera Nature Preserve. It was a beautiful space, where you can see what the countryside was before the city of Carlsbad decided to fill in or top off every other Hill. There are lots of nice hiking trails, although I wish there was still mountain biking available here. In all of my years of mountain biking, I had never been to Calaveras, and now that is closed off to mountain biking, I am sad I never explored the area.

Nice use if open spaces. Hard to give Nature less than 4 stars but honestly 3.5 stars because the trails do need some maintenance in some areas and better trail markers throughout. Nice elevation changes gives you some exercise so not an easy walk but nothing determination cant easily handle. Not too much shade if any especially mid day so be prepared.

Great reserve to go hiking with the whole family! We bring our puppy and 5 yr old here, challenging if you want it to be but also able for the kids to enjoy as well. Oak Riparian Park is a great and beautiful trail that leads to a fun park too!

Easy to find and to find your way around, close to anything and everything in carlsbad. Cool wildlife and solar system walk. Its a volcano... so thats neat. Not to hot cuz its only 7 miles inland. Not over populated. But, bikes not allowed :-/ Not particularly beautiful and houses are built up all around it... at least from the area where i accessed it off college.

Long wide range of fields with a beautiful trail to run through and along it anytime for free!

Review №25

The trail head at College and Carlsbad Village Rd is an easy place to park but the first bit of the hike is down steep trail, be ready. The view on the way down is pretty great, with a clear view of the volcano plug all the way south to Sage Creek HS. If youre in it to win it then this trail will connect to the entire calavera trail system and you can go for miles and miles.
